So IMHO one must define what a "manbiter" is. I would define a "manbiter" as a dog that will be aggressive to a human in an unprovoked manner (if there is truely an act of unprovoked aggresion)that has:

    1. Been properly trained (that is the dog understands what I want when I give it a command) - it is unfair to call a dog aggressive when the dog is forced into a situation that is unknown to the dog. So the dog "knows" the rules.

    2. Understands his place in the "pack", meaning the dog has been made to understand that EVERY individual standing on 2 feet is higher than the dog in the pack. You cannot call a dog a manbiter if you let him rule your roost in your absence, you may be the dogs alpha, but everyone else in the human pack must be seen by the dog as higher in the pack to minimize the desire of the dog to challange - a perfectly NATURAL occurance of a pack animal.

    3. You cannot call a dog a manbiter if the dog is behaving in a manner that results from a stressful situation where the dog is just behaving like an animal. Too often I see folks glorify APBTs as these magical creatures that instinctively know they are not to lay a tooth on ANY person all by the grace of God. They are ANIMALS first, they are no different than any other dog when it comes to training that dog to be under control and behave as expected. If you have done neither of those things then I contend you don't know if that dog is "bad" or just driven and out of control.

I think very few bulldogs are actually real manbiters. But if one actually was if he was a low quality one, then no question about it.He gets culled. Now if I just happened to have a great dog[as in the next Chinaman]then as much as I'd like to say I'd cull him,I'd probaly breed him at least once and keep every pup to see how they turn out.But I live on a 500 acre farm with no close neighbors and lots of room to keep him away from the house. But as a rule I say cull the manbiter. But of all the times I've ever been dogbit only one time has been from a pitbull, and I accidently got my finger in his mouth. So my fault.

I went to a man house one day,we talked a lil bit then went out back to check out his dogs so we walked around looking, and we came to this one dog good looking brindle down from maveric blood. I went to pet him and the old man grabed my arm to stop me, I asked him does he bite the old man looked at me and said hes got teeth, so he told me to turn around and that dog went crazy tryin to get at me but soon as i turned back around he would sit down and wag his tail as if nothing was wrong, but he had a look in his eye like he would kill me if i just came close enough,
so we talked about that dog a lil, he told me that dog would let you come pet him long as you wanted but soon as you turned your back on him he would go at you grab your hand, leg or foot, he had both parents neither were people biters

    So my first thoughts are:

    A. Why was that behavior tolerated? He could still be a great dog with respect for a person.

    B. I think based on your description of the behavior the dog is simply trying to display his dominance...in my book unacceptable and certainly fixable should the handler have a mind to.

I used to have a dog that hated everybody but me He would get in my lap like a puppy and love all over me but anyone else he didnt like very much. He would not go crazy to get at them but if they messed with him he would bite them. He was all mine.He was a very tight Bullyson dog. It really worked out for me though some one tried to steal him one night I woke up to them screaming. as I went out my back door shooting at them he ran up to me all happy like look daddy Im a good boy. But I allways kept him away from kids or strangers. I loved that dog I would love another just like him. Oh and I bred him and none of his pups every bit or acted like they would.

nowadays that is too much fuel for the fire we are all fighting aka BSL! i myself say cull because taking a chance is like giving an advantage to hsus and peta. who wants that? the fight is hard enough the way it is!

I see your point, but then I believe you take on the responsibility of a dog, you step up to the plate and do your part. You want a game bred dog then accept the challange....these animals are not throw away. If you cannot or will not take on the responsibility, then don't take on the dog.

Probably a dumb question... But is there a line (or crosses between lines) that never produced manbiters/HA dogs?

I dont want a HA bulldog, but I definitely wouldn't put one to sleep for not hiding under the bed if someone broke into my home.

Man eaters are very very super rare in any honest game line.... Game bred dogs IMO are the most stable dogs % wise of ANY BREED. They them selfs are like no other dog so I believe no other dog is like them. Not magic, just good breeding. I'm talking game bred dogs NOT ApBT's as a collective whole..

manbiters should be culled and shouldnt be bred. you wouldnt want a dog to harm you and your family or anybody else more so a dog that will bite you when he's hunting. jmho

  15. How long have we been following the tradition of not breeding man biters.Over the course last 20 years there would be 10+ generations. If a dog comes out a man biter it's obviously because they want to bite.

Genetics are genetics...If a dog is a man biter then the entire litter got the same genes and can pass on the same man biting gene. Its just a matter of what genes in a dog turn on and which turn off. This is why even super breeding produce less than spectacular dogs.
It can never be bred out completely until geneticists alter the dogs genome.

This is why cancer will never be totally eliminated without genetic manipulation.Everyone has the gene it's just a matter of if that gene mutates.

Are we talking about manbiters or maneaters here? Any dog will bite under certain circustances. Chinaman bit somebody and if I remember right someone said Bolio would getcha if you didn't turn him loose fast enough and I know I read that Carver was nervous with Bullyson for the same reason. THANK GOD NOONE CULLED THEM!!!!! Cull the maneaters, take a good look into the manbiters to see their reasoning and then decide.

I would cull both the high preforming and low performing good bloodwork game dogs for being manbiters. IMO and no disrespect intended I don't believe game dogs should be trained to work on humans at all ie. protection training, etc... There are other breeds that were created for and excell in that type of work.
