He served to popularize them even more -- especially with the kids.

This breed does not even have a chance to come up for air -- it keeps getting smothered by more and more problematical popularity.

Ya know, I was just sitting here thinking. I do understand that in SOME cases, kids are definatley influenced by what they see and hear on t.v and the radio. To a degree. But these are KIDS, young people, that should have some sort of parental/guardian steering them in the right direction. (yes, I know that there are -some- out there that DON'T have parental figures.) But the majority do.

For example, when the Fast and Furious movie came out, some kid stole his dad's corvette and wrapped him self around a pole, allegedly after watching that particular movie. Who did everybody blame? The movie. I mean, come on. More factors play a role than movies, and music. Society, enviornment, etc.

I dunno, I just find it a little too extreme at times when people blame music and movies for certain circumstances.

Any one have any more thoughts on this?

Well, apparently there was not enough parent supervision to overcome what effect the movie had on the kid, was there?

It didn't used to be that way. Parents interfered and kept the kids straight -- didn't matter what pressures they got from friends, movies, etc.

But today, kids are very defiant of parents and any authority (ask public school teachers today what kids try). I don't know if it's a majority, but it's a larger percentage than it was years ago.

This one fact is the root cause of many of society's problems today. It has led to adults with no sense of responsibility, a sense that things should be handed to them and the sense that the government will see to it that you get your share....

Oh wow, that's the same thing I heard from a friend in Holland who breeds Am Stafs -- that the Pits and jerks were coming out of the woodwork since the ban was lifted and are breeding like crazy!

The Am Stafs have to pass a temperament test in Holland before they are allowed to be bred...there is no such requirement for Pit Bulls....I know it's because Pit Bulls aren't a "recognized" breed there, but still....the Am Staf people have to jump through hoops to keep their dogs.....

    Yep.

Well..... the 'rappers' etc. that are portraying the breed as 'status symbols' are no better then the people that are breeding the living hell out of these dogs carelessly and producing dogs with less than stellar temperments (i.e HA) and selling them to ANYone to make a quick buck so that they end up being fought in alleys and vacant houses and bred over and over and over and overto then be dumped. If the abundance of 'supply' is there, it's gonna keep happening. Whether 'rappers' and 'gangsters' keep portraying the breed negatively or not. It's all wrong.

Over breeding/Careless breeding is the key root to the issue. These dogs are too easily available. In general, pit pups are a dime a dozen nowadays.
    It's rediculous.

I know it, and some people think that anything with a big head and short hair is a damn pit.

Either way there his dogs he should have the right to do what he likes with them. I thought it was good when he bought his dogs on stage and they where just calm and relaxed as he preformed unphased by the fans and such.

DMX did not make them "hot in the hood" because they where already getting a bad rep wayy before that. i have news articles from the 70's bashing our dogs.

I Like DMX & Some of his music. end of the day the pit is not in the situation it is today because of DMX (alone). we just like to use certain people as a scape goat and blame them for everything instead of analyzing the issue at hand.
