Do you think Animal planet is portraying a positive or negative image of the APBT?

Don't watch it so I can't answer. My experience with animal control officers has been that they are two faced, and self serving, so I can't see the show being any better.

    They are idiots.

Its all about hype, and generating donations.

I think for the most part,,that show and the ppl feed into the misconceptions of the breed and don't know the difference and don't care to learn. I here them say things that are so ignorant.

I Say Its Bad Bad Bad.
The Times That I Have Watched, Its Always "vicious Pit Bull" This N' That. And When An Obvious Pit Bull Type Dog Is On And Very Friendly Good, They Refuse To Acknowledge What Breed It Is.

    Or

If They Go To A Home That They Cant Get Around The Fact That The Dog Is A Pit Bull Type Dog & Being A Very Affectionate Dog, They Have To Add In That It Still Has The Capability Of Mauling Someone Bla Bla Bla, I Cant Watch It, As It Gets Me Hott

  6. Animal Cops NY and San Fran are good. The rest (Miami, Houston, Detroit) are terrible.

  7. rocksteady

    rocksteady I'll drink to that..

i have to agree that the NY one does a much better job at giving the breed a better imagine. Whether or not one agrees about adopting them out, they usually show the abused, neglected dogs and how their temperaments truely are.. I remember the one episode where the half starved neglected dog rode with its head on the officers shoulder on the way to the shelter vet .. but then maybe most people only see the abuse and not the positive

We all should write them suggesting for them to do a special on APBT.. Maybe a title such as "The Truth Pit bulls".. well at least I will try to

The detroit one is bad, most of the pit bulls found by them are fighting dogs, and a lot ae found right after a fight. Detroit put down all fighting dogs. But I have seen them adopt out puppies and young dogs if they haven't been used for fighting. But I have seen them show positive stuff about the apbts many times. I try to watch animal cops whenever its on, its sad but it is stuff people need to see and be aware of.

I actually seen for the first time last night an ACO who seemed to at least know somewhat what he was talking about. He acknowleged that the dogs would be extremely dog-aggressive, but that the nature of gamedogs almost ensures that they will not be human-aggressive. That was better than seeing an officer getting licked to death by a APBT and saying something like "I've got to be careful though....he could snap at any minute, likely killing me"

I must say I do like one of the cops from Animal Cops Detroit. Why? Well he refused to call a bowlegged 100+ pounder a "pit bull".

  13. I watch Animal Planet. Everyone needs to take it for what it's worth (A WARNING THAT OUR BREED IS IN DANGER FROM FANATICS!!!).

San Francisco Animal Cops, what idiots they are. Just about every Pit they take in, they put down. I will not watch them at all. Nothing fair about those, Cops! You think that's bad, try their forums. I'm always getting into it, with someone there. Bunch of narrow-minded fools.

That pissed me off. For a so called "pitbull officer" he sure wasnt able to tell a American bulldog from a pitbull. Man I the man should have had his dogs contained better but that must be a bad feeling in someone trying to tell you what your dogs are. He said "Never in my life have a seen a 100pound pitbull", and the mack daddy of the "ignates" said "You know what you got, its a pitbull."

Anything with short fur, good muscles bodies and a farily large head is a pitbull now a days

Yeah, I remember on Animal Cops Miami, there was a man who had two dogs in his car. Yes, the female rednose looked enough like a bulldog to be one. But the white male was 90+ Ibs. The man was seen arguing with the officer, he even said "Since when do you see a 90+ pit? They just don't exist"

The officer replied, "You know what you have." Meaning. . . pit bulls.

So the dogs were re-homed outside of Miami-Dade county.

I dislike Animal Planet. . . Greatly. The ONE time I remember seeing a postive portrayel was on some adoption show, & they had a big black and white pit bull bitch on it. An older woman was worried about the dog "mauling her grandchildren", but the rescuer kept saying how gentle & friendly she was. The dog was adopted, eventually.

that was a great episode. I thought i was the only one in the world who saw that point about the dogs head on the shoulder.

As a matter of fact, he did. He had all the papers on him when the officer came to his home.
