Were Dogman of the Past Cruel?

Discussion in 'Dog Discussion' started by BrokenBread, Nov 1, 2009.

  1. Aside from fighting dogs, that's something that I highly support due to doing it for all the right reasons(gameness).....

Is it true that they used bait dogs to "Prepare" a dog for a fight?
Is it true they used(like a fan on a pole) and put small animals such as JRTs, rabbits, etc.... in a small kennel, tie the dog to it and have the dog chase the animal in a circle?
Is it true that if a dog stopped fighting due to exhaustion that they used electrocution as a way to zap the dog up to continue fighting?
Is it true they used sterioids before a fight?

I have heard so many others that dogman were more F'ed up than what they are potrayed to be, is this true?

  10. I support it that if it wasn't for these people the APBT wouldn't be what it is today.

This thread was more so to educate the people who think dogmen were just senseless cruel p.o.s who have a good time seeing other dogs suffer.

I know the truths to be honest, it was more so to those who don't think so.

Didn't read the first line of the OP. Just want to say I disagree and don't support dog fighting or any form of dog fighting.

The 2 areas I have in bold are done still today, steriords is a dirty buisness but it's done on the regular now a days, and the other I belive (if I am reading what you wrote right) is called a jenny. a cage is usually placed where the dog will want to go after it but not be able to get to it. It's bait, not lunch. In other words the dog runs in a circle chasing a cage he will never get. The rest of that stuff may have been done by people but I would doubt any real dogman would do any of that other stuff. If a dog stops because of exhaustion than they QUIT. No need to try to get him going again he is done.

Where in the cajun rules does it say anything about shocking a dog?If it quit,it quit.Match over. The point I'd like to touch on is I hear people talk about catmills being cruel,as a guy that has coon hunted since I can remember I have seen coon hunter after coon hunter train young pups with a coon in a cage. What's the difference in using one in a cage to work a bulldog on a catmill.Where's the cruelty at???Is it even illegal,I've seen so many people do it in plain sight I wouldn't think so.But who knows with the way laws are anymore.
