I hate bugs and rats, mice what ever.

Ya humane and animal don't mix. When some one talks about humanity and humane acts with me and it involves animals I just walk away after telling them they are phuking stupid. Animals are not human therefore can't be treated humane. It is just stupid. you can treat them good or bad but not humanely or humanly.
makes about as much sense to say that fish are not animalistic and a cow isn't aquatic. it is one of those " No shit Sherlock" things.

hu.mane (hyoo-mayn): adj. kindhearted, compassionate, merciful.

(As defined by the Oxford American Dictionary)

There are no mentions of humans in the definition of humane. The correlation comes in that we humans can conciously treat others w/ compassion & consideration, something you do not find in the animal kingdom.

There may be actions that appear to be compassion & mercy in the animal kingdom, but those behaviours are often taught or are instinctual & do not come from the heart as it does in humans.

Thus the word "humane" (human-like) was used as a definition for kind, compassionate & merciful behaviour.

Because humane behaviour is by definition kind hearted & compassionate, IMO it can translate to how we treat our animals. I think it is compassionate to let a dog in your warm house to escape from the freezing cold & it is kind hearted to not starve your dog to death & make sure it is well fed. That is acting in a humane (human) manner to an animal.

All Humans are sinners and naturally bad in my oppinion. One has to actively be nice and not self centered. They are greedy, vengful, mean, spiteful and just plain naughty. So to act human isn't that great of a quality in relation to what an animal does. So to treat something in human fashion really would not be a good thing now would it. Humane by definition is an oxymoron to true nature of things. We have to be taught wrong from right, if left to our own we would be like monkey. Steal, pester and just be annoying creatures. I don't like monkey. We get to see the results in human nature not being taught wrong from right in public all the time. I would rather not my dogs act in human fasion or to be treated as humans. I treat my dogs good, feed them twice daily, water them, bath them, house them, keep them safe, immunizations, vaccinations, parasite free and so forth. I don't see that as humane but just being a good steward to my animals. I can treat another human humane or in-humane but not an animal. Maybe according to Oxford but not in my mind. To me Human like behavior is negative and not a positive aspect to treating other creatures or even other humans for that matter. Liberals like to think there is good in every thing, every person is innately good. Not true. Quite the opposite, all are sinners and innately bad. Almost evil in this day in time. Set a car in the woods with no humans and one in a parking lot with humans and see which car comes up missing.

All humans are greedy, vengeful, mean, spiteful and just plain naughty? What about infants? What about your baby girl? I doubt any of those qualities could be found in either in an infant or in her, yet both are very human, are they not?

Some humans give their money to feed the poor. Some give their time to serve them. Some even give their lives to save someone they love or in some cases they give their lives for someone they DON'T love, or don't even know for that matter! What about the man who risked death in front of his own children to save a boy who fell on the subway tracks by sheltering him w/ his own body? Or the men who saved a toddler who fell from the 3rd story of a building? Was that greedy, vengeful, mean, spiteful and just plain naughty?

Now, some humans ARE greedy, vengeful, mean, spiteful and just plain naughty. In fact, some humans are more monsterous, vicious & animalistic than any animal created. But others are not. The ones who are not are those that the word "humane" was modeled after.

(Oh & BTW about the car thing - I left my truck in a parking for almost 4 months while I was in the desert. No one took it. ;) )

Wow, that's something else. I knew mantis would kill other bugs to eat, but I didn't know they would fight.

As for ppl treating animals as human, that causes nothing but problems b/c they asre dogs, not humans. But I do think all animals should be treated humane.

Now, do I think dogs should eat at the dinner table, eat human food, sleep on the bed or get on the furniture? Do I think they should tell me what to do or even have an opinion on what I tell them to do? Nope. But I do believe we should treat them in a considerate (humane) manner.

For example, if you're going to own them, feed them right, house them well & keep them comfortable. If you're going to match them, do it right, give them good after care, treat your dog well & have the balls to pick up if need be.

These are all humane actions concerning your dog.

It's those who are inhumane who are causing the problems. They starve their dogs & house them in cardboard boxes w/ nothing in them or chain them up & let them take shelter under an old car. They match their dogs into anything, in full sight of the public & leave the dogs a pussy mess afterward w/ no aftercare or they let them get killed b/c they are too much of a puss to pick their dog up.

THAT is what is going to make our breed extinct. That & the fact that too many ppl aren't minding their own bee's wax.

So no, not all humans are pure evil but, if you add up the times someone jumped in front of a subway or saved a child and compare it to the number of times someone pushed someone else in front of a subway or killed a three year old child, it is easy to see where he is coming from. ;)

OK, butting out now. Back to the thread. :o

Now, THAT I will agree to! lol. The issue I was taken with was the comment that ALL humans are evil.

  12. Ah, here is where we disagree. Like previously stated, humane is a word to be used within the human species. When relating to actions and reactions between humans and dogs (animals), the term does not fit.

Let us look at your last paragraph (bolded).

For example, if you are going to own a car, give it gas, park in a secure area, and routinely give it a tune up. If you are going to use it (car) for more specific tasks (i.e. construction, racing, etc.), you will prepare said car for such conditions and add additional routine checkups.

These are not humane actions. I pretty much said the same thing only adjusting to fit the "property".

Now, to clarify my stance. I enjoy the company of these dogs. They give me plenty of love and I reciprocate with the same intensity. I do what I can to maximize its life.

Yet, I cannot use a word derived from "human" to identify with a none-human. Humans are sheppard of all animals. It is our nature to care and manage our surroundings with balance. A human that cannot maintain this balance with life cannot begin to hope to aspire to be humane.

People that knowingly starve and otherwise mistreat their animals cannot be humane because of major evolutionary handicaps that prevent them from connecting to balance. Thus, living in an unbalanced atmosphere reaches far beyond the matters of dogs. The mistreatment of their dogs is only symptomatic not the real issue.

    I abhor animal cruelty.

I think any breed of dog that gets pregnant because of a mistake the pups should be culled. Better yet aborted at the same time as spaying the female.
I have also owned mutts, had one that lived to be 17 and one of the best dogs I ever had. The vast majority of mixed bred dogs never have a good life and I realize there are exceptions but not enough for some dumb woman to let her dog run all over the neighborhood in season as my friend did... trust me she is dumb. She was irresponsible and the pups paid the price.
Sorry if you feel "That is some of the most asinine drivel I have ever read."

I don't expect an APBT to act like a Japanese Chin. I believe all dogs should have a job to do I just don't believe in fighting them.

I wish I were being a drama queen but unfortunatly dogs do get their faces ripped off not often. But how often does it have to be before it becomes cruel.
Yes the insect...in some countries they fight them because the are game and they bet on them.

I really appreciate the strange strange woman comment, usually I am just called a bitch. My response to that usually is thank you it took me years to get this way. Another one is "you must have a strong man behind you to talk like you do" Nope just own my own gun LOL

Yep I am the one and as memory serves he still never lost a fight
Now so people don't get all upset..we are not talking anything other then a dog coming in our yard and my dog tearing him up. Sadly he did kill 3 dogs. I learned how to break up dogs fighting before the age of 10. He was also fast ..he chased a jackrabbit out in the desert with me on the end of his leash, I was 9 and he dragged me on my face until he caught that rabbit. I couldn't let go of him cause if I lost the dog in the desert my father would have beat me within an inch of my life.
And a few really good fights at Namar enlisted men's housing El Toro Marine Corp Base in the 1950s between my dog and a GSD over a female silver back GSD.
You gotta understand at El toro at any given time there were at least 30 dogs running loose. The only thing the base cared about was that no dogs took a dump over in the officers quarters. If there was a female in heat there might be as many as 60 dogs on the common green camped out in front of the building were the female lived.

  16. First, Please forgive me. this is my first visit to this group so I am just kinda wondering around looking at the previous posts. I ACCIDENTALLY have three pitties that have ended up being my heart and soul. Always looking for a place to share the love.
So anyway, I don't understand what she is possibly ruined from. As I said, I have three in a single family home environment. You KNOW I have had a couple of fights before learning the rules, still all my girls have been ok.

  17. If I remember the OP, it was about a young female that was attacked by two of her guard dogs...or Dobermans...or something like that.

If this is that thread, well, ruined means the female is unsure of her dominance as a bulldog. Remember that this breed should always act as if it is the Alpha male or female. Forcefully removing this idea can actually have the contrary effect.

I believe this is what ABK was wondering in her OP.

If you have ever had a fever and felt disoriented then thats probably what she was feeling and maybe she was also a bit satisfied at the time, dogs are a strange lot and its hard to figure them out sometimes. Im sure she will be ok in a few weeks when the swelling and bruising is completely down. On the other hand I have had males that were completely ruined from situations like that.
I will be keeping you and your charge in prayers though. Also it may take a few months for her to come back around as shes very young yet and not very experienced yet, please dont give up on her as time does heal most wounds including those of the pride!;)

  19. With her face so swollen I would give her a little benadryl and some antibiotic if she were mine. Benadryl will help with the swelling and make her feel better.

Let me remind you about a certain dog:

    CRENSHAW'S CH. RASCAL
Champion Rascal was born in 1972 on the yard of Maurice Carver and was later owned by James Crenshaw. Rascal won 5 contracted matches, 6 off the chain and suffered JUST 1 LOSS, and that was HIS FIRST. His first match was at 52lbs. against C. Sykes' Sampson, and took the count a 1:52. At this same match Ch. Honeybunch won her second match in :28. In 1974 Rascal met Wood's Snooty, again at 52lbs. and this close match ended in 1:57. For his third match and second win, he defeated Irish Jerry's Soldier in 1:30. For his championship, he won over Baxter's Booger in 1:16 at 48lbs., which turned out to be his ideal weight. He then had wins over Hughes' & Hick's Big Boy in 1:45 and Langston's Satan in 1:19.
Champion Rascal wasn't noted for possessing a devastating mouth, as some would have had many believe, but he was a very game dog as all of his matches went over the hour mark. he fought any style, but preferred to work the head. Not many dogs could put Rascal behind. Even in his loss to Sampson, Sampson died within an half an hour after the match.
His ability to produce is evident in the likes of Gr. Ch. Pedro, Ch. Rascal, Jr., Demon, Sugar, Bandit, Polly, and Krypto just to name a few of his offspring.
Rascal died at the age of 11 in 1983, but will be remembered as one of the best.

Now i'm not saying that you have the next Rascal, i'm just mentioning a positive inspirational story. :)
