  1. Do APBT with tightly gamebred lines make good pets? I want to hear opinions on this subject.

  4. i don't think it matters how tight they are bred, a bulldog makes an awesome pet...just so you understand their nature and keep them seperated from other dogs and give them a job to do.

  5. You should worry about the line more than how "tight". I have heard that some Eli strains do best as yard dogs and not so great as indoor pets.

What you should be concerned about if getting a "tight" bred dog is genetic, physical, and behavioral defects.

To follow up on his question, can a gamedog be an inside dog? There is the obvious level of work they demand to stay happy, but are their level of energy outrageous enough that they are just not suitable to live inside with you?

I am no expert but from everything I"ve learned about this breed, they make excellent pets IF they are genetically sound and IF you know the history and act responsibly.

They cannot be around other dogs without supervision and sometimes they cannot be around other dogs at all.

They should not go to dog parks.

    They need alot of exercise.

If other dogs are in your household, crate and rotate would be your best option.

And in my opinion, ONLY a person that is well educated and knows exactly what comes with owning this breed should be allowed to have one.

i keep 2 gamebred dogs in the house and one is tight bred, no problems here but then again they get a 2 hour walk and 1 hour of play(flirtpole, fetch) in the evenings.
the key is to drain all that excitement and energy from them early in the day.
a tired bulldawg is a good bulldawg:)

I got my head chewed off by saying this one time....:D

  10. in my experience on that you have to judge it by each individual dog, and not bloodline, but hey thats just my opionion

I must agree, they make excellent pets for the correct type of owner. If you are a lazy bum and never go outside and would rather have someone sleep with you all day then maybe not.

I am hesitant to go strictly based off bloodlines. While I respect and understand different characteristics that certain bloodlines carry, I also believe that dogs of just about any bloodline can be properly taken care of as an indoor pet if in the hands of the CORRECT type of owner.

If a dog exhibits characteristics that are unfit for an indoor pet, I would judge that individual dog and possibly the surroundings before I considered other factors. Training plays in strongly when it comes to creating a sound household pet in any breed. If you can't outdo the intensity level of your dog and set unbreakable guidelines on what si and isn't acceptable indoors, then they may be difficult to manage indoors!

But I think they are great house babies!!

Shit It dont matter what bloodline or how tight he bred etc.... It matter on that Individual dog as every dog is different. Do they make good pets???? They do if you are experienced enough in this breed and know how to handle and care for them properly.

  14. i'd have to respectfully disagree with this statement. Eli dogs are very intellegent and pick up on things really quick. They are mischievious at times mainly due to their excelerated problem solving skills. it's all what you want out of your dog. if you want a high strung, unruly, frustrated bulldog...leave them chained up all day for a few days. mine do great after a hard day of work and play. matter of fact, i have my girl, Easy, inside now. she's bred pretty tight off maverick dogs. ;)

im going to go more of what rocky said

when your getting a APBT off tight bred lines,, its according to what the owner was breeding for,, the biggest things about TIGHT bred dogs is to get rid of certain unwanted traits.. now that goes without saying it would make a good dog but all of them have to be strickly supervised just because of what it is, A APBT. its always the owners responsibilty to keep a dog out of trouble.. but some troubes with ppl tight bred dogs is the genetic, phyiscal, and behavior.. You'll be okay as long as you know what your looking for. Alot of it has to do with the line breeding

i'm not going to go into naming bloodlines so muchas the owners of certain dogs,, there is a difference between tight and too tight and a knowledgeable dog person knows that. but some ppl dont care they breed them anyway and end up with genetically challenged dogs..when they went to far

  17. Ok when I say pet. I mean a good house dog. I see alot of people all concerned about pedigrees and bloodlines etc. and its being bought for a pet. It will never see a roll or a match....off the chain or put through a keep. Or used to hunt even though I think a pit does not have to have nearly as much gameness to catch a hog who is running for its life. But thats a whole nother debate.

You dont need a tight bred dog to take on a jog..or work a springpole. Any pit can do that.

IMO the dogs that I owned who turned out to be real bulldogs were a handful. Wanted to kill anything on four legs...and would rip your house apart..lol...and would def not be good pets...in any ones hands.

have lil experience, but never had a problem with my pet inside and still got my furniture. worst thing she's ever done is when she ate my sunglasses. thing is I really spent time observing her, yelling NOOOO !!!!! teaching her what she is not allowed to.
hope it doesn't get worse as they mature :)

This is just my opinion, and I know that some do not agree with this. But do not underestimate the bloodine of your animal.
And yes, game bred animals make wonderful pets.
