japanese fighting dogs in australia

today for the first time i saw the japanese fighting dog thats actually restricted in australia... dog looked funny with a pink nose. heads looked like a pug, the rest actually looked pretty athletics and nice... was sameheight as a pitbull terrier and a lil heavier than an apbt.. i askedthe dude walking he dog if i could have a better look t the dog as he was walking pass, he said no, than he said dog will bite me if i come closer, i wanted to say i dont care if the dog bites me i will never report it, would be my pleasure to get bitten buy a fighting dog LOL. and he walked off..

dog looked like it waqs 2-3 years old.. didnt know they still breed them here..

i love my neighbourhood, u see real dogs..

 

Is there a difference? lol

Doubt it was a TOSA mate, they are well over that size

The Name

The first thing to clarify is that "dosa" and "tosa" are the same word in Korean and mean the same thing to Koreans. The divergence in spelling is due to how the word is Romanized to English.


In Korean, the dog's name is . The Romanization of directly into English is "dosa," which takes into account of another Korean consonant with a stronger d/t sound.

However, since the dogs are mostly from Japan and the Japanese prefer "tosa" in their Romanization, "tosa" is more commonly used in the English-speaking world.

"Dtosa" will be used in the remainder of this page to re-emphasize that the two words are the same.



Are there differences between a Korean dtosa and a Japanese dtosa?

It's been generalized that the dtosa of Korea is this massively wrinkled, red beast while the dtosa of Japan is this fit and trim fighting animal.

This isn't quite true. In both countries, you'll see dogs of both types.

The dtosas in South Korea have their origins from Japan, and, as much as I would prefer it to not be, there are some Koreans who fight their dtosas. With similar origins and functions, many of these fighting dogs in Korea look very much like their fighting counterparts in Japan.

The majority of the dtosas in Japan are utilized for fighting, but there are reports where a few areas (Kochi, I think?) that have red dogs with wrinkles, similar to those in Korea, which caters to tourists.

A better way to catagorized the dtosa would be by type rather than from country. Koreans have labelled the heavily wrinkled, deep red dtosas as "Mee-Kyun", which translates into "beauty dog" and the fighting dtosas as "Thoo-Kyun", which translates into "fighting dog."

A DOSA isn'tn the size of a pitty, they aren't japanes, they are the Korean Mastiff they are a real fat, extremely pronounced folds of the skin, almost blinds them, There is a sight (apparently dodgy) called Red Dragon Dosa's or something, just google it.. The Japanese TOSA is the Jap fighting dog and the pics above posted are ofsome fine looking TOSA's

Mee Kyun Dosa or Migyeon Dosa ( Korean Mastiff)​

This breed should not be confused with the Japanese Tosa, even though they are closely related. Unlike it's Japanese cousin, the Mee Kyun Dosa ( Pronounced in Korean as the Migyeon Dosa ) is not a fighter at all and is bred primarily as a companion pet and show dog.

There is also the fighting Too Kyun Dosa variety, which is considered by some to be nothing more than a Korean/ Taiwanese strain of the Japanese Tosa breed.



The Mee Kyun Dosa was developed in the late 1800's from a variety of imported European and Asian working breeds, But most fanciers agree that it was finally developed as a recognizable type by crossing the Japanese Tosa Inu with the Dogue De Bordeaux over the next 100 years.



In the 2nd half of the 20th century, a small percentage of the English Mastiff, and most fanicers will agree that the red variety of the Neapolitan mastiff, and a small percentage of bloodhound was also introduced into the Dosa of today, But the " Beauty " Dosa was mostly developed through generations of inbreeding and selection based on coat colour and temperament.


It is said the Dosa of today is a relatively new breed although they date back to the late 1800's the Dosa we see today is much different then the Dosa of the yester year. This style of Dosa has only been created as a recognizable breed within the last 50 years. ​

id take a fila over either of those dogs.

 

ya i was about to say thats no tosa its a korean mastiff...but you figured it out...filas are probably one of the baddest breeds in the world they have been breed for generations for orjieta(leeriness towards strangers) so they are probably the best guardain brreed there is and supposedly they can scrap... but i think id rather have a tosa off good stock, than a fila...

 

id like to cross a rough male APBT into a fila bitch and make one hell of a hunting dog. hit a pack of coyotes like a freight train. ive been told that a fila will also track due to some hound ancestory

 

ive heard of it... even thought it might work, but filas are bred for human aggression with an apbt drive and determinatition that would be a formidable dog to handle....i like the idea of crossing tosas more because they havent been bred for lerriness towards strangers. and have been bred for fighting ability, id say cross a deep game bulldog into some good tosas then test and cull for gameness after a few generations i bet you would have some badass catch weight dogs.... I know some tosas have apbt blood in them also, when japanese first imported apbt they crossed them, but tosa fighting rules are different so they were not bred for gameness.

 

i guess i wasnt aware of the HA being so common in the filas. ive only saw one in person, and maybe she was a mellow example of the breed, or simply because her owner was right there, but she just wanted to lick your face off. either way i wouldnt want to walk up on one loose in a yard, but something about them has had me interested since then.

 

Anybody heard of the japanese bull mastiff.. When I was younger a friend of my brothers were saying they were illegal in the states.. I've searched and searched but couldn't find any info...

 

i seen a video on youtube with a fila, apbt cross and it was doing some pp work. def a very seriuos animal.ill see if i can find it again and post it up
