Different breeding's produced different rates that dogs turned on. Most as a whole would mature early. Some would have to be separated @ 90' days.
Longer than that & your asking for trouble.
On average 11-12 months all would get a 1st look @ in the hog hunting aspects.
Some even earlier. For around 5-15 mins
Some like Johnie Rochead & Bossman , Doo Doo man, Lightning Boy( Whiskey), Yoda & so on , that have @ least 50 Hicks old school early starters , & went out & started Hog Hunting @ 8 months old. To hot to wait on.
    5 mins don't hurt anybody .
Others like Rick James & Slim jim were also on early but waited until 12 months old before started hog hunting with them.
All got a 1yr old Happy Birthday Present!
    Culling starts even before then.
Recently in less than 90 days one of the Guys from American Hogger's came back to get another one that was 13 months old & found out his gameness in less than 45 mins later.
Normally they would cut one hog from the bunch before testing out a new one but he was so ready they just let him dance in the pack.
He was re checked twice more then called a bulldog all @ 13 months old. As long as he can keep scratching with the pressure on him he can eat & earn a place on the yard
When you have bred & seen generation after generation for over 2 strait decades you'll pretty much know what you have & a time frame they will show you what you need to see it in.
No one can have a job doing the same thing day after day & not know the next step before they do the 1st step.

By the time they were 18 months old they were good & schooled. Just about every male was 2 hogged, meaning back to back with no break, with wild hogs. Pushed a little weight & so on. Everything OTC.
You'll know the heart of a bulldog easier when the are OTC than waiting for them to get tired when in shape.
By 18 months -2 yrs. They were bulldogs or they were not in the breeding program.
Most from this line I'll know by 12 months old to wait on or let go of.
Seen to many for too many years not too know.

Other dogs like Chesty Murphy started later on when they were a lot older.
And no matter how many you have seen in the pedigree or litter so just don't turn out or even turn on.

That's just bulldogs. Some never aren't worth the bread they eat. Some of the best dogs have thrown some of the worst shit.

That's why you check & cull & re-due the process to make sure.

Just get you a vest & take a trip to the woods & go Hog hunting with each one to really know each one.
