SAN ANTONIO – An isolated area under a bridge on the Northeast side turned into a dumping ground for an abused dog Saturday. Witnesses say a man driving a black truck was seen dumping a seriously injured pit bull at Judson and Lookout Roads.

“She was very sad,” said Rosie Garza, President of Love for Paws Rescue. “She was very scared.”

Garza and staff with Love for Paws found the dog Monday. They are now calling the 2-year-old pit bull “Blue”.

“She was dehydrated. She had not eaten,” Garza said.

Blue has an injured right leg. There’s a large open sore on just below her shoulder, and rescuers say the dog's blood-soaked cast was infested with maggots when they found her.

“The thought in my mind was that her leg was going to rot off.”

Love for Paws volunteers say they could tell from the bandages wrapped around Blue’s leg, she was recently treated at Emergency Pet Clinic. So they volunteers took the dog back there to be seen.

Garza says the veterinarian contacted the dog's owner, who refused to pick up her injured animal.

“The owner said that she had handed the dog over to someone else, and was supposed to taker her to animal control.”

Instead, Blue ended up under an old bridge. Her new caretakers are not sure whether her injured leg will have to be removed.

Garza wants the person responsible for dumping the dog to face criminal charges.

“Justice for Blue would be for the person responsible for leaving her to face justice.”

A second dog was also dumped at the same time. That dog has not been located.

Right now Animal Care Services is investigating leads. Anyone with information about this case of animal cruelty is being asked to report it to A.C.S. by calling 311.

You can check to see when Blue will be ready for adoption on the Love for Paws Rescue website: index.
