    Thanks for all the answers, guys! This ended up being a very interesting thread, learned some more history, too. :read2:

    Wasn't expecting there being many good hunters of unknown breedings, seems it's pretty common for everyone to have an unknown dog at least once in their lifetime. Definitely something to think about in the future...

    well, genetics plays a role. Gameness, coming down to it, is a mutation that gets rid of the shyness and tendency to cur of a wolf. I remember a dog of the name of street walker from the 1800s. unknown heritage. never bred. but he beat a dog more than 3x his size. From what I hear, pick ups often breed badly. Gameness in the APBT is rare enough, but in other breeds it is almost as rare as albinos, no, rarer.
