I wouldn't sell a pup to anyone who I would actually need a contract. I'm the sort who will breed when I need new stock to my yard and give any I don't keep to family or CLOSE friends who I completely trust, or cull them.

I've never dealt with contracts outside of the rescue work I do. I would assume that if they broke the contract you could take the dog back but I'm not sure.....

I think it's crap! Only you can breed the dogs? If your so worried don't sell or be more selective in your potential buyers. Don't sugarcoat your peddling ways.

With this breed especially you damn well better make your selecting 100%. The dog would be better off dead than winding up in ignorant hands. IMO, of course.

A lot of times a contract allows you to get the dog back if you find out that said dog is being taken care off in a manner that could endanger the dog. I am a firm believer in the use of contracts, but you also have to be careful on who you pick as homes for your pups too. If their goals do not match yours then it's not an ideal owner and adding them to the "family" ought to be out of the question.

Why would you want to sell a dog then retain the right to take it back?If I actually pay my hard earned cash for something I want to own it and have control on breeding it,selling it or whatever.I'd just recommend being careful who you let have your dogs, there are people that just aren't getting my dogs if I don't like them or trust them.So I don't feel the need to sell a dog with a contract or buy a dog with one either. But if I do let someone have a dog I bred,as far as I'm concerned they can breed it as they see fit.I don't have a patent on breeding a dog.If I can do it,so can others. But if it bothers you if someone breeds a dog from you,get them fixed as puppies and problem solved. What would be the reasons you'd want to reposess a dog?

where im from, and where i go for dogs, things are handled real simple....you give your word and if possible a handshake. thats good enough, and no binding piece of paper is necessary.

Even your friends and family can screw you over, unfortunately. They can lie, cheat and treat that dog that you worked so hard to produce like crap to the point that it's not fair to the dog and that friend who dishonored the trust you bestowed in them.

Case and point - a dog that was given to a "friend" only to be treated like this...and that was after she had a bowl of food and water in her belly (and no, this dog was not mine, but I was the one who got her out of said situation)

And this isn't to say everyone is like that, but to protect the dogs I breed, if I breed, I'd prefer a contract that protects my dogs. I stand by the animals I produce and I expect those that I place them with to as well, but it doesn't mean everyone's as honest as they act even if you've known them for years.

Yes, you can get a dog back if you sell it on contract so long as the contract specifies if the new owner violates the contract ownership reverts back to you. If you need to repo a dog just have call the police, show them the contract & have them escort you to get your dog back. Been there & done it.

As for contracts covering up "peddling ways" what a daft statement. Peddlers sell to whomever with no regard to the dog. Number one, a contract protects the dog. Number two, a contract protects your bloodline.

I myself have used S/N contracts as well as juvenile S/N to keep my blood to myself when I can't keep them all. You don't want to see some jackanape taking your hard work & ruining it. The Watchdog blood is a prime example. It used to be a good bloodline, but once it got out of CC's hands it was bred out of standard & every knot-head out there bred it into their RE & Gotti stuff.

All CC's work has gone down the drain & his bloodline is now considered a joke by those who didn't know it before it got ruined. Darn shame & it all could have been avoided by having the dogs altered before placement (or choosing better people to place the dogs with).

The only thing you have to watch out for is people WILL hide a dog from you if they want to break the contract. By the time you find it, it may have already been bred, abused or died. So anything you don't want bred is best S/N before it even leaves your house.

    Good luck.

heres an idea just a thought....if you realy have to breed your dogs and sell some of the excess, get them done before they get sold, and any that you arnt keep complete. problem solved!
that way you can still keep some decent stock for your yard and you prevent some puppy farmer pumping 128 pups out of some poor bitch you sold em over eight years!

poor bugger, bloke that bought it should have known what he was looking for.

you would obviously tell the buyer you were it was fixed.
it would also cut down your prospective buyers, but.. as youve said previously outright, youve only sold to people that you know .<!-- / message -->

I use contracts in my rescue. Even "great" friends can fuck you over when it comes to dogs... Well, at least fuck the dog over. Been there, done that.
