    ADAMS' GR. CH. ZEBO ROM
In the early 1970's, in North Carolina, was a young fancier named Lonzo Pratt who was just starting in th dog game and was purchasing and breeding some well bred dogs from known dog men. He had purchased a young tested gyp from J. Loposay by the name of Fay, who was sold because she turned cold and wouldn't start for Jack Kelly and was left on Loposay's yard by Pete Sparks. After numerous breedings Lonzo struck fame from one breeding that conatined three males and two females. The two females were Lena and Rosie, the males were Crush, Vindicator, and Zero. Of the three males Zero and Vindicator would distinguish themselves as great match dogs. The better of the two was Zero, as Zebo was originally named, who gained his fame as a match dog and producer. In all, this black 40-44 lb. dog won a total of seven contract matches, thus becoming a registered Grand Champion, a Register Of Merit sire, and a member of the Bulldog Hall Of Fame, the only dog to be recognized by these three honors.
Zebo's career began on the yard of Lester Hughes, "The Mountain Man", where he won four times, all quick kills. After his fourth he was shipped to the yard of Grady Cummings and while there, Cummings' Red Fox made the mistake of getting off his leash and ran into Zebo and was killed. Grady then made Lester get Zebo off of his yard. Zebo was then sold to Dave Adams' of Ohio, of whom Zebo is best associated with. At first Mr. Hughes hadn't intended on selling Zebo, but Mr. Adams came up with enough money to change his mind.
Unfortunately, Zebo attacked Mr. Adams' son and nearly took his son's ear off. After the request of Mr. Adams' wife, Zebo was sold again, this time to Mr. Johnson who fought him twice more. The last time to a son of his litter mate brother, Vindicator. Mr. Johnson hoped to get another match in, but was unable to find any takers, despite the fact that Zebo was past seven at this point.* Thus, Zebo was retired to stud, and lived to the age of 13, siring his last litter days before his death.
Zebo produced Stepp's Ch. Willie and Adams' Ch. Katy when bred to Tomsic's Spider ROM. Ch. Willie was, as said by some, to have the same destructive force of his sire, by killing each of his opponents in times of :27, :54, and :29 minutes. Others produced by Zebo were Ch. Ruby, Ch. Abuelita, Ch. Zipper, Ch. Diamond Jim, Clemmon's 2XW Z-Boy, Nigger Tobe, Super Gnat's 2XW Blackie and Hughes' Gator just to name a few of the good dogs he sired. He is the grand sire to some great ones like Doc's Ch. Moe who was a Grand Champion until he ran into Red B's Ch. Charlie. Many said that Moe went to the well one time too many in his loss against Charlie. After his victories over Ch. Fargo and his brother Basket, too much was taken out of him to go into a much younger dog like Charlie.
The breeding that produced Zebo and his litter mates was one of those outstanding litters that come only once in a while. Basically this breeding was a Dibo/ Old Family Red Nose/ Colby cross, which explains why all of Zebo's litter mates were red or red/ red nosed. But where did this one black dog come from? Many speculate Zebo wasn't bred as represented, for one Mr. Hughes purchased Zebo from Lonzo without any papers. Some claimed Mr. Hughes sold many different Zebo's. And a lot claim Zebo to be a half brother to another famous pair, Eli, Jr. and Bullyson. Although, Lonzo's Andy was a black dog himself and Zebo through nothing but black dogs, even when bred to various, different colored females, it still remains a question in a lot of people's minds.

  11. Get it from provin stock and you'll be ok one more thing there are know "pure" Zebo bulldogs anywhere the only "pure" Zebo bulldogs was Zebo himself and about these dogs makeing people look like fools don't get sucked into that first find out for yourself what a good bulldog "looks" like and judge for yourself these dog if proven and bred right will and do throw just as good or better then any of your so called popular lines I had just about all of them and I would'nt trade what I have for anything and I'v been at this for over 20 years I don't claim to have the best but I would'nt trade them for none of the rest...

P.S. I'm not trying to sell anything here just want my man to see a very good bulldog down from Zebo blood.....

    ABK Rest In Peace

I think the reason Lonzo (& others) promote Lonzo dogs as "pure Zebo" is b/c Lonzo dogs have more of the component blood that went into Zebo. Now other lines may have more Zebo by the numbers, but it is crossed. For example, Toby blood is Zebo x Eli, Luniewski blood is Zebo x Sorrells/Snooty, Thunder Knls blood is Zebo x Charlie (Jeep).

Lonzo blood meanwhile is not only made up of Zebo blood but also the blood of Zebo's brothers, sisters, half sibs, neices & nephews. Almost every dog in the pedigree of a Lonzo dog is either off of Zebo or kin to Zebo. Because of this, Lonzo dogs actually have more "Zebo blood" (meaning the component blood that created Zebo) than other lines do.

However, if you want to get down to the nitty gritty, even Lonzo dogs aren't truly pure Zebo b/c Lonzo has done outcrosses to dogs such as Hand's Bet Twice (Corvino/Ruffian), Coggins' Little Wild Thing (Snooty/Bullett) & Buck's Ginger (Snooty/Mims).

    Hope this helps! ;)

I thought I would resurrect this old thread about Zebo blood. I once met a guy at an ADBA show with a couple of red, red nose from Lonzo. They were small and jacked. They were awesome looking dogs. So I was wondering if anyone has bought a dog from Lonzo lately and if you recommend him as a breeder?
I don’t know much about Zebo dogs, but with two little kids I do worry about man biters. Is this an issue with modern day Zebo blood?
    <O:p</O:p
    Thanks!

    Marcw1,
First off, IMO she's NOT a 100% Zebo bred dog. Let me ask you this, does the pup look like Zebo? Does her sire or dam even look like Zebo? Is the sire or dam even off of Zebo? How many generations in the pups pedigree do you have to go back to even see Zebo's name listed? Go to peds on-line, pull the pups ped up, click on pedigree statistics and see what percent value is given to Zebo in your pups pedigree.
Let's go another route. Maybe the breeder can tell you what traits the sire and dam possess. Are they the same traits that Zebo possessed? Is the sire or dam, or both, high percentage producers? Are they off of high percentage producers?
Why do they make you look like fools? IMO most of them NEVER meet the APBT standard, very low, and I mean low production percentages.
Manbiters, when you visit the yard to pickup the pup, walk over to the sire and dam and others on the yard, and insist on petting every dog on the yard. You'll know real quick, and if the breeder doesn't recommend it, run to your car as fast as you can with your money and head to the house.
IMO, the Panther bred dogs are about as close to a Zebo dog you're going to get, and the production percentages are way higher than the Lonzo stuff. But beware, every now and then they'll throw one that'll get in your britches, just like Zebo.

The Zebo dogs from wat i have seen and read tend to be short and stocky they look nothing like Zebo. ive talked to the Mt Man and he has told me he was the hardest biting dog back in his times.Later he sold it to a fellow in Ohio but he dosent believe that he produced anything the only good dog he heard from was tarheel Matt Panther and he was a big SOB and from what ive seen Panther does look like Zebo.L.P had the whole litter at the time MT Man bought zebo and when he was at his yard zebo bit him and in Ohio he bit a Kids faece off thats why he was sold to another DOg man as far as Zebo being a good producer goes Mt Man from his own mouth has said that he produced nothing.Mt Man Has Said That Ch.homer bit as hard as zebo and was better producer than zebo

My understanding of Zebo being a man biter is that every time it happened the person who was bit was in his enclosure unattended by Zebo's owner. Or doin something they were not supposed to be doin..... Now I don't know cuz I'm only 23yrs old I wasn't there. Nor have I met anyone who saw Zebo bite anyone. So it's just hear say. but that's what I got.

As you can see ABK is very knowledgable on this line :D. Maybe she can chim in and give a better responce to his man biting history.

The truth in zebo/vindy bred dogs is that they have to be bred right and You should have alot of patiency to let them fully matured. Some of them are little shy towards people, but they are very intelligent and tender animals.
