Name the only breeds of dog that were bred specifically for fighting other dogs. I must specify there is not many...So don't look for half a dozen breeds to list... and we need not mention some breeds people use to rumor were bred for fighting...Like Shar-peis, Chow Chows Etc. Just the ones intended to game with other dogs after being bred for that intended purpose. After we all talk about it we will be able to compare what we all were led to believe...it maybe interesting...

lol. Shar Peis weren't just rumored to fight, they did fight, & still do today. Of course they were also bred to guard & to work independently of humans (which explains why they're indifferent to people other than there 1 owner). It's no secret that they're "pit bull" caliber, but don't discount the breed. All you have to do is look at the way the dog is designed to see its fighting background.

  3. Tosa or Tosa Token

  4. There are a lot of breeds that people fought unsucessfully. There are also breeds that arent recognized by any "mainstream" kennel club

Good point, Sweeper. My good friend (who's originally from Puerto Rico) has gotten into the Ca de Bou dogs. This is a breed that is not only bred to work bulls, hogs, & guard, but it still used as a fighting dog & actually excels in that area in that country. Those are some tight little dogs that's for sure. Check out www.moloss.com for more info, & here's a pic of Mucha Lucha (1xW) a Ca de Bou who was lost in a yard accident.

Remember.. "bred for Fighting other dogs as their purpose"...which Shar-peis were not bred for...Neither were lots of other breeds people think of even if some people still fight them... there is only a handful that have had any real success being bred for this purpose as the #1 goal. At least as far as I have read, maybe we will all learn something?

then exactly were Shar Peis bred for fighting at a whopping 50lbs?

From all my research into Shar Peis (which is quite a bit as I love the breed), then the many wrinkles (which served the purpose of preventing a devestating bite/hold to the neck), the small ears (which prevented an opponent from getting a good hold on the ear), the tighly packaged muscular body (which provided strength), the deep chest (which provided space for good lung capacity), & the muscular jaws (which enabled the dog to deliver a good bite/hold) were all done then so the dog could bark loud at intruders. Huh..........

  8. as I said, there are many breeds that people know nothing about. The Olde Boston Bulldogge was one, Guatamalan Bulldog, Molulapa was/is? a Havanese fighting dog. There are countless others out there too.

Well technically, pit bulls were not first bred to fight other dogs. They were bred specifically for bull baiting (& to fight other animals). It was only after these practices were banned, did people decide to try fighting dogs with other dogs & realized it was something that 1. the dogs did proficiently & 2. was easy to keep under wraps (it was not easy to bait a bull without many people knowing if you get my drift). So the focus of the breed's purpose shifted.

But other dogs bred for fighting?
    1. the Bully Kutta
    2. Gull Terr
    3. Old Boston Bulldogge
    4. Perro de Toro
    5. Tosa Inu
    6. Akita Inu

No maybe it was for actually encountering the intruder not just barking at them... the intruder who was probaly a martial artist back in those days had to be stopped...so you ever think the wrinkles served a purpose before someone thought theyed make a good addition to a fighting dog...they made it hard for a human to make good progress on or do damage to when fighting back with the dog... when they grabbed they only got skin since we have opposable thumbs that grasp... allowing the dog to still bite our most vulnerable spot..the arm...they were not bred to fight dogs but later thought to be well adapted for it...as far as I was taught and still read everywhere... but things do vary from historian to historian.

  12. thus the reason they were FIRST bred with wrinkles, went back to a more tighter skin, and back to wrinkles as it progressed into the horrific show mutt that it is today, same as with the Neapolitan Mastiff

Well the Gamedog we know today did become a breed bred for only fighting with other dogs...after awhile...
which brings up the point/argument... that the dogs for fighting other dogs and the ones for baiting were not the same... but the best baiters more similar to Alaunts were bred down to get the fighting dog we know today ...which is much smaller and agile made to dispatch dogs not bulls...those types were way more similar to are prized Gamedog we have today... So the Gamedog we know now was originally bred for Dogfighting as we know it.. from the time it existed as this form we have now.

    argentina dogo & presa canario

  15. Argentina Dogo was bred as a hunting dog...The Argentine Dogo was developed in Argentina by Dr. Antonio Nores Martinez in the 1920's. He wanted a dog that was a good pack hunter and guardian, but could also be trusted with the family.

  16. but Presa Canario...The Canary Dog ancestry probably includes the now extinct naive and indigenous Bardino Majero, crossed with imported English Mastiffs. It was developed in the Canary Islands in the 1800's specifically for dog fighting

Wow I can't believe some of the breeds getting undue beliefs bestowed upon them...I think I only saw a couple of right ones so far from what I have in my little head as the only dogs bred to fight other dogs...and there is a couple out still unmentioned...and I mean "originally" as they are today... not crosses and other crap to pop up in the past couple decades I mean original breeds...Dogo Argetino is a dog therorized to be bred from Gamedog lines and other crosses and was never bred for that sole purpose...it may be now??? but wasn't originally for that... as we know it today. And when was the Presa Canario bred to fight other dogs...it is just a mastiff cross too IMO and a sad attempt at trying to be a true manstopper and coursing mastiff like the Cane Corso which are way less agressive and unstable like Presas ...Presas are real aggressive IMO but I only seem a dozen or so..so I have a small window of experiance...

  18. Presa what? Mallorquin or Canario?

  19. btw, Perro De Presa Mallorquin info:
Espana regaled in dog fights- the Spaniards who have never been renowned for their love of the bull were engrossed in bull & bearbaiting as a spectator sport. Even today while bull & bearbaiting has been outlawed dogfights are still supported by certain, thankfully small circles. Mallorca one of the Balearic islands off of the coast of Spain, developed this "gripping" canine to participate in its dogfighting ring. Organized dogfights on Mallorca have waned and with it the population of Mallorquin Bulldogs. A number of dogs still exists but residents believe that most of them are mainly crosses of the original dog.

I cant believe all the writing I just did just got lost ...2nd time today...what the hell...so anyway I posted something cool to get this going but had to take my back pills and now their kicking in and beg me to bed...damn pills... I will elaborate later on this but ...the only 3 dogs bred for fighting other dogs originally as we know them today... minusing mastiff crosses and spitz breeds originally bred for something else like Shar-peis Akitas and Presas...
    WERE...

Gamedogs..call them what you will(Terrier Backgrounds have other fighting breeds...like the Bedlington Terrier and Patterdale 2 very game breeds that were bred at 1 time to fight but not only for this reason... until a better purpose was found they did ok and gave Terriers a good game rep...and dont forget the White Terrier who some say has a finger in our ingredients..it was game from writings saying so before extinction) and after bred down from Alaunts gamedogs were bred solely to fight other dogs and are so as we know them today...Therefore on the list

Korean Chindos, Bred for centuries only to fight dogs

Japanese Tosa Inus, Like wise, but emphasis on fighting silent and rearing to the head...??? something patriotic and very Japanese to me..probaly from the Japanes culture so if thats what they breed for then good job Japs...
So lets search dog breeds bred for fighting and see what we come up with
together in internet land.. might be funny to see what we come up with...may be interesting to see that internet land holds and the conflicts it presents...
