Doesnt sound promising to me. Did you visit the breeders yard and how did the parents act? I would probably take your concern to the breeder as soon as possible and maybe they will help you out, but dont count on it.

If a pup growls at you once make sure he learns to NEVER do it again! Nip it in the bud b4 the dog is big enough to actually hurt someone. Either that or send him back to the breeder

Exactly! Its usually a sign of things to come. I have gotten one or two from people that were protective around the food bowl when they first got to me, but they learned real quick that wasnt gonna work.

Socialization is important if he'll be meeting other people in life. But most important is that he knows you're in control. If that relationship is clear, he won't be growling at you unless it's playtime. Some people here don't like Cesar Millan but he understands this relationship really well (most successful dog trainers do) and explains it pretty well in his books.

7 weeks old LOL, man love on that pup raise him as you would a youngone and scold him when he is bad, thats all! he is a puppy 7 weeks old I would think bad of him if he wasent wanting to chew on you and play and fight with you he is playing if he getts too ruff, thump him on the nose and say NO and ignore him a day he will b fine. And the Jeep midnight cowboy cross is one of my favirote crosses of all time. The best litter I have ever seen was a 50/50 Cowboy jeep cross.

yeah i been around more than a couple pups like that. They think they own shit soon as they step in the door.the one i have now used to growl whenever someone tried to remove him from the couchThis was at eight weeks when he came home. This was taken care of by just snatching his little ass off regardless of the growling. He began to understand thats my couch motherfucker.if you dont have this attitude about your home and the things in it your dog will and thats when shit can get dangerous..You gotta nip it in the bud now while its just growls and he cant really do any damage.I dont think its a fault or a sign of HA to come just a lil pup full of piss and vinegar.Shit after trying to kill the kids rabbit he has learned its off limits although now at six months he has already killed a nice sized groundhog.Like trip j said just love the shit outta him but dont forget discipline is love too.Overall these dogs are way to much for most people and i gotta say if you find you not up to the challenge take it back to the breeder before it gets out of control

It could be that the pup is just being a pup, or whatever. It may be a good idea to give it some time, but how much time is the question, if thats the theory you are going to go with. I wouldnt let it go past 16 weeks myself.
Definitely show the pup who is boss, or as Cesar Millan would say "the pack leader".

The best way to have an idea of how the pup will turn out as an adult, is to look at how the parents temperament. Not a guarantee by any means though.

it's just a pup. Only 7 weeks at that. Love him and discipline him. If he growls at ya give him a good thunk across the nose with a loud NO! He's still learning about the world, whats right and whats wrong. I'm dealing with a pup full of himself myself right now. It's taken almost a month but he's finally starting to accept what what I say goes. "No biting the ppl, no temper tantrums when i put you off the couch or bed, yes you have to sleep in the crate." now if your dog is still like this several months from now, you can either choose to have him put down for not being wired right or go to a behaviorist and see if your missing something

If this is going to be a house dog this is horrible advise. If you let the dog win while playing tug and not ending it on your terms with a dominate dog there will be no pecking order and the dog view himself as pack leader. This dogs needs to be taught boundaries. Triple j and Mr revolutions advice works a lot better. Let the pup know the behavior will not be tolerated then redirect it. I prefer scruffing a pup followed by a firm no as aposed to hitting the nose as the nose of any dog is a sensitive area and can be injured fairly easy. Jm2¢

All I have to say is pups are little shits! They bite, they growl, they chew everything up and they act like little hellions. You want to a pup that grows into well behaved dog you have to put in some work that includes not being afraid to discipline them when they are out of line. They are just like kids that need a foot in the ass every once in awhile. If this was an older dog growling or biting you then you would have something to worry about.

"Thats my couch motherfucker" LMAO i almost just spit my pop out on myself lol!!!

  20. This is interesting. Does everyone believe that scruffing and a NO works? Many trainer now days wouldn't agree with such a forceful method. I think that all of you agree on the scruffing because we are talking about Pits. More force is required with this breed is what yall mean..?
I have once pinned down a dog before for growling and almost snapping at me over his food bowl. I have to say it did work, he never tried it again. He was a Lab though, but not very well trained as he was an outside dog and not neutered.
