great dogs mate got enough bulldog to get the job done but got the chilled out nature to come out sometimes but not all the time this bitch is really full on on the go all the time lol if you got the time and means to look after and work one properly then you are in the right place to search out a good game athletic dog from a family that throws those traits with good wind then find a good greyhound bitch nut equally find time look for best grey you can get as i got my mates male here that i work as a lurcher and hes more than enough dog his litter sister was at least as good as well in the field

We don't anything like what africa has but over here we have grizzlies, mountain lions, wolves though i don't think they are much of a threat they tend to avoid ppl but a hungry coyote might take a stab at you. The bigger herbivores such as moose and elk. Alligators if you live in that area. Also gotta be careful in some of the rivers, i'm hearing more and more about bull sharks being found in our rivers. Altogether I thinks north america would be a great place to be if shit did hit the fan. we don't have nearly as many dangerous/poisonous animals as some parts of the world.

Mal/APBT Longer coat for cold/night but still handle heat well, likely will be people and animal aggressive, easy to feed, extremely intense and alert. Good luck to the rest of you lol.

I said that for effect..I'll make it clear anything on Razors edge site for sale I can go to the pound and get a better dog period ..And I would bet money on it ..their dogs should not even be called a pit bull of any type ..they would drop over dead before they could prove they were a cur...

Don't know about a crossbred, looks like a pretty nicely bred cane corso. And if pups off her are going to be available I'd be interested.

Cur dog. Not the slang term, the real deal. Catahoulas, Blackmouths, Mountain curs, Brindle curs and the like. The bulldogs catch the hogs but somebody has to go find one. The right one can tree, hole, and bay. They were southern settlers "meat" dogs and with most of them trash breaking is still the most difficult part when you get a good one. If you didn't trash break one and just let him go after anything you'd be in the money survival wise.

A good CAFIB Fila Brasileiro is what I would use...can catch med sized game like boar, will protect you with its last breath (and has the size to do it effectively) and has the endurance and structure to go forever...great all around dog for the up coming zombie apocolypse, lol.

Surprised no one has mentioned the trusty ol ridgeback. Legs and wind for days, quick enough to catch small game yet hardy and big enough for the rougher stuff and has very hardy pads. Alot of people are talking as though pigs are the only thing they'd come across. A kangaroo would make mince of most good pigging dogs!

Im takin the dog I own duh, apbt. Idealy though, Great Pyrenees. Im pretty far North, and when shtf Im going further North. Its called survival, not kill everything you come across. Need a dog that can herd a flock and scare off a grizzley bear.

I'm leery of any dog that is bred to be a "jack of all trades."

Re: What would you pick for a "wilderness survival dog?

I'm going with a APBT, despite what some have said if you know your dog and your dog knows what you expect he will respond in kind. If you keep the joker on a chain most of his life of course he's not going to be good at listening. And just because he listens and stops in his tracks when you call him back does in no way indicate that he is any less a representation of his breed. It basically shows what type of time and investment you have put in your dog. How many of us have Dibo back in our peds? Professional dog men bred him and he was known to walk the yard around game dogs with out incident. What about Virgil? Steve Irwin (The Crocodile Hunter) had An APBT as well that was on most of his episodes, (Sue) She chased game and would listen when the man called her off or back from any number and speices of animals. I don't know her worth as a bulldog but by shear nature of her breed we can all agree that she was capable of grabbing and holding something. If you keep them on a chain and that's all they know then that's all they are going to show you.
