what are the facts? and a fact is a concept whose truth can be proved. How can we prove it??. Nevermind that, it is all we know, and from what Red Boy has produced and his have produced and so on...i dont think someone would want 2 change anything about him...

do a quick google search and some old articles regarding the "true" breeding of Redboy will pop up. If I am not mistaken many believe he was a pure OFRN. I think some were claiming he cam straight off Hemphills yard. Not sure about any of this guys just spreading more gossip lol. I will post the article if I find it .

my take is that when mr bass made the carolina kitten ms marlowe his yard girl that he told her that redboy was
an old family rednose and she in turn offered him at stud in the journal as being so with no ped...

now if mr bass was keeping redboys breeding a secret or misleading his yard hand,,,
or the ofrn popularity was on the downslope I am not sure...

if that was the case redboys double sire teals jeff is off the cur sarge,,,
so it wasnt like they were upselling the pedigree...

if you look at the nebblett blood thats in jeffs grand dam gyp,,,
you will notice there is some hemphill dogs which might explain where the color came from...

the bottom quarter of the ped is an outcross on first glance but also goes back to some of the nebblett/wallace/hemphill blood also...

if tough redboy is shown to be inbred on jeff whoms predominatly colby blood,,,
he is also linebred on that nebblett hemphill dogs which is where he might have got his color from...

sure there isnt many red dogs in redboys colby pedigree,,,
maybe a ofrn catalyst from hemphill and wilders old stock dominated the gene pool...

once that red color has taking over it seems to dominate the bloodlines color,,,
so I would not say that redboy is not pure anything besides a typical carolina mutt that sure made a name for himself...

I believe redboys blood to descend from his origns,,,
some loposay colby blood perhaps with some ofrn blood to boot...

But I wouldnt rule out that some hound dogs are in that blood also,,,
the black mouth curs,,, the plotts and cracker and other curs made it into some of genetics...

yellow,,, yellow john,,, mayday all seem to fit the hound cross look,,,
plus if you ever seen a predominatly redboy yard come feeding time,,,
they sound like hound dogs...

as far as there being many red colby dogs it was far and few,,,
but there were a few...

basing a dogs breeding based on hid immediate families color is absurd unless there was alot of inbreeding going on for generations to lock in the color...

 

I agree with your logic Elias . In April 2011 issue of sportingdog international, 90 years with the Apbt. They asked Louis Colby ( rip ) some questions about his opinion. When asked in his opinion who the best breeders were he said , I will quote him. Floyd B. And Howard H. Also Redboy and Jeep werec7/16 tha colby blood. The man didn't need fame.

 

I had an opportunity to buy Princess and she was one of the best examples of the Colby bloodlines in the last 30 years.

In the Kitten's Redboy ads she clearly States in black and white Redboy is down from Trice and OFRN!

 

Ch. 3xw Princess was also produced. Clemmons Dirty Harry bred with her, Fisher Tight game Outlawith ROM. etc . Her belly mate brother Ch. Scarface rip, also if you look at how Ch. 3xw Diamond made ROM in a few short breedings to Lonzo's Bubba 5xw ect. As John R.Colby told me when he bought a pair of Major and Ravens pups from me 10 months ago. He said this is The Best old pure col y working blood on the planet !

 

Yes...what a lot of people don't realize is that there are pockets of Colby dogs that have won. The problem is not everybody is a breeder. In order to improve performance you need performance breeders who understand working isn't good enough because winning improves breeding and generations.

Here is a fact people don't know about Colby dogs. There has not been any fresh blood added since Dime was bred to the 3/4 Rifle females and Dimes grand sire was Rifle. 50 plus years later Ch Rueben Ch Princess Ch Scarface Ch Diamond. The genes are there for winners because the Colby family has been inbred for almost 70 years the hard part is finding the pockets of dogs and even harder is finding performance Colby breeders who don't settle for working but winning being the minimum!

I searched high and low for Colby breeders who only cared about winning and I couldnt find one who had winning dogs. I figured it would be to hard breeding Ch Princess to Colby studs that have produced Colby winners so I decided not to buy Ch Princess. Winning dogs can be produced from pure Colby dogs but it will take a large yard. It will take a lot of time but it can be done. An experienced winning breeder can do it but it won't be easy!
