What makes a bloodline

Discussion in 'APBT Bloodlines' started by rockysteel, Aug 3, 2005.

  1. Whats makes a blood line is it the blood in a dog or is it his genes? Is bloodline proper or is geneline more correct?

yep...but genelines is a real term used in wild animals like wolf packs and Chimps in the wild, but with dogs it more a strain off a certain dog that might have split somewhere and started a different albeit still similar "bloodline"...if you trace any dog back to the beginning youll see a lot of common names, Tudor, Heinzel, Colby, carver etc, these lines were used to create different directions which turned into totally different blood lines in dogs...

  4. Ive always been under the impression that genes control everything in an animal size ,color ,temperment etc etc etc , genes even control what actions animals take under a given circumstance, blood only takes nutrition to parts of the body , just some thought provoking questions .

Well yeah your just defining it in Biology terms, if you think of blood as genetic inheritance youll understand, your Grandpa passed his blood to your mom thru her mom then your mom gave it to you via your Father which gave you the genetics you have today, this is what we mean by "bloodline"

  6. So in effect we are talking genes not blood ?

Yeah, pretty much. The bloodlines are generally based off two things

1.) An outstanding dog.....all offspring from him, are essentially "Dog 1 bloodline". You cant just pick your pups parents and say there name and say thats what bloodline he is(unless his parents were outstanding dogs and have made enough of a name for themselves to be called there own bloodline).Im trying not to get too complicated, if your lost, let me know and I'll try to explain it better.

2.) The other thing bloodlines can be based off are dogs all coming from a outstanding breeders yard (Carvers, Hammonds, Boudreaux, etc.)

This is the basics of it, hope this helps you some! Just keep asking if you need more help, thats what this site is for.
