Lafayette, LA -- Alexandria Police are searching for two men who shot a man and stole his 13-week-old pit bull over the weekend.
Captain Larry Coutee says 22-year-old Joshua Dubroc was shot in the chest, and the bullet lodged in his stomach. Dubroc was taken to Rapides Regional Medical Center, where he remains hospitalized in fair condition.

    The shooting happened Sunday.

Police say Dubroc and another man stopped at a grocery store and, when they came out, two men asked for a ride. Dubroc says they allowed the men to ride in the back of the truck and the men got out at their destination.

But, instead of a thank you, one of the men pointed a gun at Dubroc, who was in the passenger's seat. The other man was by the driver's side, and both demanded money. When the victims said they didn't have any, the gunman grabbed the puppy from Dubroc's lap. The driver then drove away, but not before the gunman fired a shot into the vehicle's cab, hitting Dubroc.

Coutee says the victims didn't know the suspects and could only give vague descriptions.

Anyone with information should contact the Alexandria Police Department.
