The Others

Please note this is all fictional and based on historic events. What makes a bulldog worthy to be matched? Or unworthy? I've noticed in the old articles & stories that in some litters all the siblings were matched and proved to be quality match dogs especially from the Red boy strains. Now why is it that with these other bloodlines especially from the eli strain that only 1-4 dogs out of a litter of 6-9 were worthy. What about the others that started but were prevented a chance to prove their worth? What did the dogmen look for in a prospective match dog during the schooling process? Hard bite? Style? Speed? Natural air? Why should a prospect have all these qualities? Were dogmen just afraid to have dogs with losses dominating the number of dogs they have with wins? What it if these dogs they had little faith in would be gr ch's ? What about the others? What makes them so inferior? What if they would rise above what's expected of them and make sure they change their slackish attitude during a match ?

 

As the old saying goes, It is your life and you can do what you want with it. I'm sure there were some back in the day that could have been quality match dogs and thus quality studs. It is human nature to go with your instincts and that is what they did.

Remember, most back then were not rocket scientists. There were breeders and successful dogmen who would cull any black dogs from a particular litter just because of there color. There were those that were not particularly fond of different body styles. So, I believe that your question is a good one.

Would like to see some of the dogs back in the day that didn't measure up. Would be an interesting study to say the least.
