One more time. I understand where people are coming from, but the inability of some to understand subtlety or nuance drives me crazy.

Yeah, you CAN end up in Guantanamo by accident, it seems from some of the evidence I've heard presented to have happened some. I would think folks on this board if ANYONE would appreciate that you can wind up in trouble with authorities even if you aren't guilty of anything.


Separatist or whatever has nothing to do with it. Keep on track. In a war of counterinsurgency when operating in someone else's country then you've got to convince the people living there that your OK.

Or you've got to go 100% bad ass, be willing to torture women and children and men to death on a regular basis just to set an example and keep people in line.


We don't do that in America. That's a big part of what being "American" means. At this point in history the world is so intertwined that we can NOT just "go it alone". If you think we can then you are just flat out ignorant.

So, as much as it might make some of y'all mad, while we are in Iraq we have GOT to be "nice" overall to the non terrorist Iraqi's and convince them that we are the good guys.

Now, that approach has worked the last year, year and a half. The US has developed some tactical innovations that have allowed us to identify and target the terrorist and their associates in Iraq and kill them off. The US military (rightly) won't say just how they do this but its been working and working well.


But in Iraq there will not be any "victory" in any traditional sense because we are just trying to get them stabilized and get the hell out.

And most of that is on the Iraqi's. We are NOT there to wipe them out and re-name the place new Texas as much as some of you might like that.

Damn it is frustrating to try and converse with people that seem to both never read a newspaper and have no idea what is really going on.


Now, if you care about national security then think about this. We've just barely begun to deal with the huge problem of western Pakistan. A very large country with nukes that is unstable and has no real control over its western areas and does not want us to go in there.

Al-Qaeda and the Taliban are there and have a safe haven and Afghanistan is becoming more and more unstable. Remember where the attacks on 9-11 came from.
They didn't come from Iraq, they came from Afghanistan. So yeah, Iraq was never a direct threat to us the way Afghanistan was and getting side tracked there took troops away from what should have been the main effort.

The sooner we can get the Iraqi's functioning on their own and get the hell out and get Afghanistan and western Pakistan squared away the safer the United States will be. And as much as some might like it we can't just nuke em' all or what ever fantasy solution it is that some of you have in mind.

 

We cant get iraq to function because people seem so damn hellbent on bringing democracy to a country that has a 99% muslim population that abide by sharia law.

Thats like saying Bring Sharia law to america. Whos in favour of that? so why are we in favour of imposing democracy in a place where people dont want it?

There is no telling what the truth is. My point is terrorists are terrorists no matter what color or religion....BUT to die in the name of God is HUGE for Muslims. I say if they are in custody, its for a reason. Make them talk. You can't get a word out of them with threats of death because they're not afraid to die. Pain, however, is a totally different ball game. Whatever course needs to be taken to make sure shit doesnt happen on American soil is fine by me.

Do you agree if say the iraqi goverment had intel that an american wanted to blow up 3000+ iraqis..the same method of "interrogation" should be used on the american? or does he now deserve human rights and just a polite talk for a confession? because hes american right?

I appericate everybody's point of view and I have not spent that much time on the earth as many others here so i appericate there knowledge.

and I dont mean any disrespect to anyone serving in iraq or anyone who has known someone to die as a result of 9/11.

But as for gitmo I would like some thoughts on this

If We have intel on these people. Why are they not arressted. charged with conspiracy to comit terrorist offence. given a lawyer and given a fair trial if they are found guilty then punished accordingly. Why are people stuck in there for 6 years with no trial? it doesnt make sense to me. why do we need to beat the shit out of people if we already have intel on them

I know this may sound selfish but I live my life day to day I Dont really think about thinks that are beyond my control or things that i can not alter that may better my life. Things are seen in diffrent lights depending on who is looking on.

Whilst I am grateful for soliders who make america a place i can live and work safely I belive that i have to distance myself from issues i have no control over and focus on things that center around my life that i do have some degree of control over. Selfish or not its just my outlook.

And as far as the Iraq thing, it is funny that it is said that we are fighting the iraq people, as it is clear that islamic jihad was declared, and the soldiers immigrated into Iraq to fight. I saw the Iraq's cheering when Sadam's statue was overturned, and if you do not think they were grateful to get rid of him, you should have lived under him. Then all the crazy jihadists wanted to come in and assume command, as is their religious(islam) and tribal nature, to "take by force". If you think Islam is peacable, you should study Mohamad's life, and you would see what a good "Muslem" is all about. Is it fake that muslems are using machetti's to chop christian's, or any infadel's head off? I think not.

Then let's throw this into the mix, We enter Afganistan, and many of alqeada ran into Iraq, who was giving them safe harbour, along with Pakistan and Iran. What I see as the plan in the first place was to get a foodhold in Afganistan, and one in Iraq, so that we could invade Iran, who if truth be know, was behind 9/11. But what do I know? I am just a closed minded, racist, bigot according to what you say. Do I believe everything the government says? You'd be suprised at what I think of the government. Do I love my country? There is not another place in the world I would rather live. Do I believe that sometimes we must do ugly things for the greater good? Absolutely. It is a fact of life, sometimes bad things happen to good people. If I had to be tortured innocently, along side another man who actually was a threat to national security and good intel came out of it, so be it. That is the problem with too many who call themselves Americans, they believe the country was built on every one getting there own, instead of seeing that it is not the "I" in
American that made our country what it is, but it is the
"US" in the USA.
What is the answer? I dont know. But laying down, giving rights to people who wont respect human rights for us, allowing people who enter my country illegally to use my tax dollars for a better life, allowing what other countries think disuade me from protecting/living the way we choose,... and any thing of the like, are simply unacceptable to me. Maybe some of you have been reading too much of the newspaper, too much of the internet, too much tv, and have been brainwashed with a liberal, homosexual, humaniac point of view. Look at what the founder of PETA preaches. Does anything, and I mean anything she says find agreement with you? Maybe you should take 30 days away from the media, and pick up a bible and clean your root system(your mind). Get in touch with your creator and then take a look at the media you love so much. You would trip out if you did that, as it is simply poison.
