My two cents. A breeder merely produces the raw goods, the dogman shapes and creates or brings out the "bulldog" from within if it is even there to begin with. PP would have never known what he had in Buck if not for the others who campaigned him. It is apples and oranges, and IMO The PP of the world need STP's more than the dogman needs a producer of raw materials aka the breeder. A big part of ever knowing a hounds potential is getting him into the correct hands, and not the pedigree? as the pedigree only receives fame after the fact, or it should Bwhahahaha there are some kennels out there which have created names for themselves doing both, STP did well as breeder but was better in the [], or more well known for those deeds than there ones as breeders.

 

So where would the raw goods come from if not for the breeder?

 

Good question. The Buck story involved the dream team of STP and PP. Few of us will get a dog that good, or bring it to its full potential.

 

Exactly. One feeds off the other. A symbiotic relationship. Although, I think one can also grow into the other, sometimes as well, which makes for a well rounded dogman.

Agree, my two cents, If STP never had buck would there still be a buck? yes, there will still would have been a buck as far as " Gr Ch" status mabey not. i think pat would have still breed buck and produced good dogs but i doubt the buck buck would be as used today.

 

Amen, to that. Both are the very best at what they do for and in the sport, just like Ed Crenshaw, Ozzie Stevens, Ralph Greenwood, Don Maloney, James Crenshaw, Floyd Boudreaux, also Maurice Carver and other past legendary dogmen...:cool:
