after the care of a dogs feet a good rub is very important. Not only does it help keep the dog supple and not stiff but it builds a bond between dog and handler. Nutrition differs between camps as what suits their prospect.....new wave v old skool. But a good rub is essential for guaging the condition and power reserves of your dog.

I find it very theraputic as does the dog.

  2. Rub-downs are great for any dog of any breed at any age at any time active or inactive. Great for social bonding, stress reduction, reduces lactic acid build up and improves the rate of motility.

not overly touchy will the hounds mainly feed and walk em.

but during the keep before a hunt when theyre going to give their all....

the keep is the only time you can influence the hunt. after that its time to face your dog......and release that hog.

  4. A "keep" will not influence a hunt. That dog will either hunt or it won't hunt. The "keep", a good "keep" done right, will help make the dog physically fit for the hunt.

and that is the only influence that will make a difference.

  6. If a dog won't hunt it doesn't matter what kind of shape it is in.....that dog won't hunt. 'nough said.

only hunting dogs hunt, lol..........unless you want to wreck a hound and lose your money!

But a good rub can set your hound to sleep after a heavy workout. it also helps reduce lameness. I usually work the back legs first as these are the major muscles then work back to front ending up by the back of the neck and jaw. No heavy chains used during a keep as I feel that all the resistance work is better in the pre-keep. Just plain old fast twitch exercise peppered with running and walking.
