Response Received on BSL letter!!!

Here is the letter we wrote:

[font=&quot]Please take time to read this, as a person in your position should respect the people and listen to what they have to say. (Thanks in advance)[/font]

[font=&quot] This letter is obviously regarding the American Pit Bull Terrier issue.
I think that there are a few things people need to consider about these animals, for one, these dogs love people. They are the most loving and affectionate animals that I and many other people have come to know and love. If you think about it, they must be; otherwise people would not be able to steal them right out of their own yard. You have to consider this. If they were so aggressive, thieves would not take the chance of being mauled to death. (Right?) Another thing that bothers A LOT of people is the fact that it IS a form of racism/(breed)/prejudice. I mean honestly why don’t we just ban all of the people of with which we don’t agree? [/font]

[font=&quot] These dogs were used in World War II; as serving their country, they saved their units and received a medal of honor. This should account for something. Instead of honoring them the way they should be, people are instead trying to destroy them. [/font]

[font=&quot]Just because certain people commit crimes and do unlawful things, should not give you or anyone else the right judge or single out a particular issue. [/font]

[font=&quot] Why aren’t we finding the people that are ABUSING these animals and making them what you and a lot of other people think they are? Would that take too much time? Is it just easier to say that ALL PIT BULLS ARE BAD? What is the real reason? [/font]

[font=&quot]I, as well as other people would like to know the real reason behind decisions like yours. It is very unlawful! Two wrongs have never and will never make anything right! [/font]

[font=&quot] You have put forth so much time in deciding that all pit bulls are bad and should be banned and have neglected to consider the real problem…people! People are what make the dogs (any dog, any breed) bad. I could very easily train all of our dogs (they are not all pit bulls either) to fight and kill. But they are so loving, and so caring, why would I? [/font]

[font=&quot] I am more worried about getting in a plane, bus, train, or even in a car and going anywhere wondering if I am going to get killed by all of the terrorists that you all are allowing to wonder freely. (Look at Sept. 11th and all of the other times). I, among others believe that you should put forth more time and energy to finding and getting rid of these people, as they are more of a danger and threat to our society than any animal in this country is and will ever be. [/font]

The response we got:

Dear concerned owner,

We have come across many letters through the duration of this act.
Although, not all were as apprehending as this one. You have made some
good points, points to which I believe would have an affect on people.
After reading this letter I have put some thought into what was said. I
have contacts that I believe would be greatly impacted from this. I
will pass it along to as many people as I can. I will do my part in
helping the people of communities that are affected by BSL for all
breeds affected.

This is the greatest thing ever....well it is to us anyways!! We have sent so many letters, to so many people but this is the first response we have ever received!!
I guess maybe when you direct the problem to other real issues, it makes BSL seem rather small....THIS IS GREAT!!!

 

This is great ! Excellent letter! What state are you in? Today I sent my second letter to Ardmore,TN officials regarding their proposed ban. Hopefully we can come together and help these people to see things differently.

 

I called and ask to speak to Bob and the lady at the school went nuts on me. So, we are getting to them. Keep it up!

 

We're in SC but send letters everywhere we know there is a current threat, I think we too have sent 3 letters to Ardmore!! Eventually they will give up, I have sent this one to them yet, but after this this I think I might!!! Hope it helps.

Thanks for doing your part in this fight. I personally am proud of you and this huge acomplishment. Kep up the good work and I will continue to do my part to help save our beloved pit bulls.

 

I cant get through on the cell number, I keep getting VM...I guess we could leave MSG's but....personaly I would rather speak personally to him!

The response is actually encouraging! I usually get smug responses with zero insight (like from Denver last year).

That was a very nicely written letter. Kudos to you. I am actually amazed you got a response. Of all the many emails I've sent to these kind of people, the only time I got a reply was from that stupid banpitbulls.com web site. They even posted some of the pics I sent them of my dogs and my daughter together without my permission! I reminded them that I didn't give permission to use them, but they never took them down....which is okay cuz it totally counters their "vicious pit bull" non-sense. Again, nice job!!

 

Would you be interested in writing my mayor of my town. They are just talking about BSL but it could verry easily happen I want to keep it from happening.
I will PM numbers and addresses if anyone or everyone wants to leave their point of view it would be greately appreciated. I am also trying to organize a group of anti BSL to help stop it. I emailed abagail and she gave me lots of good information to help stop it and this is one thing she told me to do.

by the way, I have never gotten a response from anyone I have e-mailed or snailed-mailed....you should feel lucky even if it wasn't good responses....at least it was acknowledged ya know? (it will still make them think) I dont even know if any of ours were!

I would be glad to...anything I can do...especially something so simple as to write a letter....I think I may pass this one around, it seemed to have gotten someones attention! Maybe it can get more!

Yes it is great...and not to burst your bubble but look at all the work you put in to sending letters to get one paragraph returned. It makes me wonder if the person has an idea of really passing on your very good points to their mentioned contacts or if they were just playing devils advocate and telling you what you wanted to hear...just to get the letters to stop landing on their desk in the long run....I hope thats not the case but in my own BSL activity I have come to notice its easier for them to send out a generic empathy letter to redirect the feelings of people like us...
People like us who feel the ripples they make in their struggle to save our breed really move the ocean called BSL...
