Yes and no. Depends on the dog. Depends on the strain. Depends on the family.

I've had a straight Deacon bred male that could bite shit in half. I've had litter mates out of Holland's Bobby that one could shut it down and one needed dog food soaked first.

Seen heavy Mims Red Boy dogs with a lot of mouth and seen Cottingham dogs that had little to none.

RED BOY is far too wide for an answer. Narrow it down to a strain, then there are no absolutes, but some probabilities.

LMAO@needed dog food soaked first , that is a good one.....or he couldnt chew out of a kennel made of cardboard that got wet from the rain. LMAO

Once could narrow it down even further to each individual dog mans YARD and the furthest to each INDIVIDUAL DOG, which is the absolute.

The guy that turned me onto dogs was a big fan of mouth and an even bigger fan of the Red Boy dogs. Way back then the myth of Red Boy dogs not biting was about to get started. They were average to above average biters across the board but, as SAIY said, it was down to the individual dog.

Over time their intensity and desire to stay was hyped as much as their lack of mouth was over emphasized. In the end, it has been a great line, but its own popularity has been its downfall. A half ass heavy Red Boy dog will out sell any other line and any given time. Weird how it happened that way.

He use to say things like "Cottonmouth", "could not bust an egg" "soak his feed so he can eat"

I was a young boy at the time and he went to Ronnie Bass' yard and bought two off of Red Boy. One was a litter mate to Yellow John and the other I can't remember if it was off Bass' Cat or Bass' Cleo. So long ago. The litter mate to YJ was named JR. This dog was killed seven or eight times and it was said, "they left three hairs on his tail alive, and that is all a Red Boy needs to scratch". This dog had zero mouth but was always coming. In turn the other one, and I will check on the breeding, could flat shut it down.

These two could have perpetuated another strain of Red Boy for todays fancier of the line but back then it was a match dog or bust. A lot of worthy dogs did not make the match dog grade and were never bred.

In turn, the Red Boy hype moved a bunch of people to selling Red Boy dogs. Popularity pretty much did them in. And with all the strains it still boils down to the individual dog.

TDK had the triple ott red jr dog from MG triple ott red sr a sibling to yellow john as well as mrJacobs had a sister,,,
alot of variation in that one triple inbred redboy litter that yellow john came out...
I also spoke with the man that owned yellows brother JR who had all the mouth and ability and left yellow with not much more than durabilty and gameness,,, to total opposites as one depending on skill and the other depended on the oppisiton stopping...

As Slim mentioned in one litter you could get a lot of differences and variations,,,
I have noticed the tighter and older the redboy blood gets the less abilty it has
but they seem to keep the recessive game traits and and outcross well...

I just want to say after bing back on a site it's refreshing to see a mature set out here sharing and educating and listening to other views. I'm only 41 this year, not a breeder nor an expert in Anything been with 2 families and only helped feed a few others. Sat on yards ranging from 4 to ones that combined over 300 never myself owning more then 12 at a time. I've heard a lot about a lot of bloods as we all have and yet Only a few remain living on. Consider the years the dogs the beings and the stories behind each. Reading this Redboy post gave me some joy seeing a few have actually dig a little deeper maybe even got to know more then just words but the actual ones spoke about seems a few know it's best to seek. Love seeing that. I have toyed around with maybe buying a reshot family bred dog and man it's a fun journey thus far. It's gonna be another fun ride ahead I am sure. Been speaking with Bobby some but he has yet to have a litter that I know of since we began speaking. This small amount of reading will be keeping me busy awhile thanks for sharing all.

The Best dog i've ever owned was that Black one in My avatar and was an Eli x redboy cross 50/50. He lack Nothing. Pure Fire smart and with lot of mouth. His father was a pure imported redboy And was a Hell of a dog. Crazy freaky dog who would bite everything who move..this freak was breed with an Eli female and me with other two friends took five dogs in a litter of 8 And all those five were really complete dogs. This one in my avatar was The best of The litter and when i breed him with another Eli bitch i turn with a litter full of monsters, they turn out more bigger (from46lbs To 65lbs) but complete.
