Pitbull neutering deadline looms

    New Zealand -- The deadline for Auckland pit bull owners to have their dogs neutered is drawing closer.

    One hundred and twenty owners are affected by an order which requires all dogs to be neutered by February 18.

    They will have to be muzzled in public, and microchipped by July next year.

    Team Leader of Compliance Monitoring Geoff Atherfold says so far owners do not seem to be in a rush.

    He says only around a dozen have been neutered.

    Mr Atherfold says owners who do not neuter their dog face a fine of up to $300.
