Pistons guard spent a sleepless night after his pit bull Shark ran away
By Chris McCosky / The Detroit News

AUBURN HILLS -- Richard Hamilton endured a very restless night Friday, and it had nothing to do with his icy 15-for-43 shooting proficiency against the Miami Heat.

One of Hamilton's three dogs, a pit bull named Shark, had run away.

"That's my homey," Hamilton said. "He's my oldest dog. We came into the league together, man. That's my homey."

Shark ran off Friday night. Despite searching long into the night, Hamilton didn't find him until Saturday morning.

"He tends to get loose and he runs," Hamilton said. "This time he didn't come back. I found in him at the clinic, the animal shelter three miles down the street."

Hamilton was late to practice, but coach Larry Brown excused him.

"Yeah, he's got his dog back," Brown said, smiling. "He's fine now."

Hamilton was glad to be able to get his focus back on basketball.

"I can't wait to get out there in front of our fans," he said. "We are definitely going to feed off their energy. It's going to be exciting."

Hamilton doesn't think he's out of the woods yet with Shark.

"He didn't learn nothing," Hamilton said. "As soon as I put him back in the pen, he was trying to find a way to get out."

If hes such an escape artist, put him on a chain. The way responsible owners keep their bulldogs anyways.

I agree with you 14rock... "He tends to get loose and he runs," Hamilton said....doesn't sound very responsible...
