Pilot" came from the yard of Fair 'n Square Kennels and was shipped to the FFB's at 12 months of age. He was a fine looking dog, athletically built, with a white coat and black patches. He had been bred out of Fair 'n Square's "Milo" and "Midge" and had reportedly broken his shoulder at a very young age, but which had now completely healed. To the writer, the young "Pilot" did not appear to be in any hampered by this earlier mishap and seemed to be 100%.
At the age of 18 months the FFB's started the young dogs career by rolling him into a dog called "Roy". "Pilot" completely barnstormed the other dog, showing awesome biting power and overall ability, which resulted in the owners of "Roy" picking their dog up at the 12 minute mark. ("Roy" was considered to be a very good dog, after stopping Ch."Tyler" in just 17 minutes) A new Ace had been born.
The FFB's started looking around for a second opponent, but as one can imagine, no-one in their own country was willing to meet. They then called the B**, who said that they were willing to meet the following weekend to roll their dog against "Pilot". Their dog was a strange acting young dog called "Judas". After meeting up, and with the usual bragging and eating out of the way, they started the roll.
"Judas" was the heavier dog, by about 3lbs, but "Pilot" barnstormed him. Neither dog would fight defensively and a bleeder popped out of "Judas"s front leg within the first minute. "Pilot" began to work the leg, and then "Judas" helped him by taking hold of his own leg and shaking it even harder than his opponent. However, at the 4 minute mark "Judas" took a hold on "Pilots" leg and crushed it. "Pilot" let out a yelp, but continued on as the leg stayed in place supporting his weight up to the 13 minute mark. The "Pilot" dog dominates the fight, but "Judas" doesn't help himself by holding his own stifle for about 5 minutes. In the end the owners of "Judas" had to pick him off his own leg. "Pilot" continues to be the better dog, but is now getting into trouble as the "Judas" dog works the muscle, causing several deep holes and the broken leg is now giving way. He manages to scratch twice on three legs and the "Judas" dog also scratches hard. Both owners decide to stop the roll at the 25 minute mark to prevent further injury.
The "Pilot" dog was rolled twice more, but never showed the same ability again as the front leg never healed fully and he wasn't able to apply weight to it. He was bred to "Beanie" and some of the resulting pups were above average. One in particular, Taminfords "Gus" came closest to his fathers ability, but in the writers opinion was ruined as a young dog when his owners decided to roll him for his second into the "Judas" dog. Overall, in the writers view, the "Pilot" dog was one of the best Irish dogs that he has seen and he considers it a pity that he had to meet the "Judas" dog that destroyed his leg
