The BET program is due in early 2010 and will examine the quarterback's NFL comeback and legal troubles in connection with dogfighting.

He's out of prison, back in the NFL, and now Michael Vick is going to star in his own television series.

The quarterback, who took his first regular-season pro snap just two weeks ago after serving 18 months in prison, is partnering with BET for a new eight-part docu-series scheduled to air early next year. The program, tentatively titled "The Michael Vick Project," spotlights his controversial comeback with the Philadelphia Eagles while also examining his tumultuous past -- including his troubled childhood and his 2007 arrest for running a dogfighting ring.

"I just want people to really get to know me as an individual," Vick said last week in an interview from his home in Philadelphia. "What I want to do is change the perception of me. I am a human being. I've made some mistakes in the past, and I wish it had never happened. But it's not about how you fall, but about how you pick yourself up."

The onetime NFL star's decision to expose his private life to a television audience follows a flurry of recent news and sports media interviews, which began with "60 Minutes" in mid-August. The Vick series is a gamble for a quarterback who is eager to rehabilitate his tarnished image but also doesn't want to incur the further wrath of animal rights protesters, many of whom argued against his reinstatement to the NFL.

That may be difficult. Officials with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals expressed skepticism about the project.

"People who abuse animals don't deserve to be rewarded," said PETA spokesman Dan Shannon. "They shouldn't be given multimillion-dollar contracts . . . or given the privilege of being a role model.

"We don't believe Michael Vick understands the seriousness of his crime. I think he's sorry he got caught, but only time will tell if he's truly remorseful."

The project is being produced by DuBose Entertainment; Vick's production company, MV7 Productions; and Category 5 Entertainment. No one associated with the production would comment on Vick's compensation for the series. In August, a federal judge approved Vick's six-year plan to repay creditors an estimated $20 million and emerge from bankruptcy.

'The Michael Vick Project' Is Coming To Your Television

by Brandon Worley • Jan 22, 2010 11:55 AM EST

BET has premiered the trailer for their new docu-series "The Michael Vick Project", premiering on February 2nd.

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mj7LMJiZisY[/ame]

The series was filmed during Vick's first season back in the NFL after serving prison time due to animal abuse and dogfighting convictions. The series will "spotlight his controversial comeback with the Philadelphia Eagles while also examining his tumultuous past -- including his troubled childhood and his 2007 arrest for running a dogfighting ring".

Vick is obviously trying to alter his public image after he has spent the past few years being vilified by the media and the public, focusing on his life as a father and his attempt to prove he's more than just the animal-abusing monster he's been portrayed as. The big question is how his mistakes are portrayed. Will he take ownership of misdeeds and prove that he is truly sorry, or will the focus on his childhood and other family issues be used as excuses for the crimes.

"What I want to do is change the perception of me. I am a human being. I've made some mistakes in the past, and I wish it had never happened. But it's not about how you fall, but about how you pick yourself up."

You can catch episode one on BET February 2nd at 10pm EST, or if you're like me you'll be watching LOST instead.

We live in a capitalist world. If it can make a collective of individuals money, a market will be manufactured. If dog fighting put money into the hands of the right people it would be legal too.
Vick did something stupid and was thrown under the bus for what he did. He did his time, let him live. HS and other groups in reality need Michael Vick's. That's how they get money into their 501(c)3 or the non-profit industrial complex. Just like The Red Cross needs events like Haiti to happen. People are getting paid.

God forbid someone raises their voices against a certain behavior, such as the reprehensible Michael Vick, one will get scolded for judging. The bible says "Judge not".

Really? So we're supposed to just look away when someone performs a misdeed? Child porn? Judge not! Sex with a minor? Judge not! Killed the little old lady next door for drug money? Judge not!

See, it doesn't work that way. It's not a catchall phrase. To correctly and spiritually discern and to spitefully judge are two completely different things. When you discern, you can distinguish right from wrong, but when you judge, you are not to do it in a mean spirited, critical manner.

Judge Righteous Judgment - (John 7:24)
We are to cultivate the act of spiritual discernment - (1 Corinthians 2:15)

So does that mean Viacom/BET support dog fighting/animal torture because they gave him a show? That's more support than anyone on this board can type in support of Little Vicky.

Exclusive: PETA’s Pet Killing Program Set a New Record in 2008
Public Records: PETA Found Adoptive Homes for Less than 1 out of 300 Animals

Animal lovers worldwide now have access to more than a decade’s worth of proof that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) kills thousands of defenseless pets at its Norfolk, Virginia headquarters. Since 1998, PETA has opted to “put down” 21,339 adoptable dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens instead of finding homes for them.
PETA’s “Animal Record” report for 2008, filed with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, shows that the animal rights group killed 95 percent of the dogs and cats in its care last year. During all of 2008, PETA found adoptive homes for just seven pets.
Just seven animals -- out of the 2,216 it took in. PETA just broke its own record. SHOULD THEY BE PUT IN JAIL?

Look You can not Compare dog fighting, to Child porn, sex with aminor, killed the little old lady next door for drug money. The shit don't go together like to men haven sex. Lets be more real here ok, that's like compare dog fighting to Hitler killing the Jews, or back in the day when African American was getting lynching by white men, now whats really inhumane bro, We came from one god. God created man in his own image, but yet some of us hate blacks, some of us hate whites and other for what kid shit, do i think what Vick did was right no i dont. But we care more about little ferry animal, then fixing are self as human being, we say we love god but we hate one another. So lets not bring god in to this because that's being a hypocrite:cool:
