I have a niece wanting a bulldog. She and her family had a dog I bred from Frisco lines and she was super gentle and not aggressive what so ever. So with that she is wanting similar dog. I feel that dog was rare to be so cold. Dont think she would be as pleased with a dog that was firey.

So with that, is the SBT lil more mellow and not nearly as dog aggressive as say a performance bred bulldog? If so who in the Midwest of USA breeds a quality SBT?

show bred SBT ya they can be less DA and mellow but why not get a bred to fit your needs? look at the history of what the breeds about and decide if wants fit reality. I feel the show line needs extinction and a restart. Tell ya what, how about a restart on my reply, tell us what a quality SBT is and maybe the right people will respond.

Obviously the show type you have personally been in contact with must have been non DA and I take it you have been around a few? I was at a hadling class last night with my boy sid, there was about 15 dogs there and every few minutes there was at least 2 - 3 dogs wanting to rip each other apart so to tell people that show types are less DA is not right. There are some very fine examples in the show lines, just because people choose to show their dogs doesn't make them a lesser dog. Trust me all the original instincts are still there just under the surface, its how you train and socialize your animal that determins how they are around other dogs but believe me they can snap at any time.

I am an experienced dogman with bulldogs. I asked for some info from the SBT crowd and this how you treat people?

That's about right, like I said it all comes down to how you train and socialize your dog, just be sensible with your SBT around other dogs.

Your question is more on type than breed there are plenty of non agressive apbt's out there..prolly more than not.
To your question on sbt's...the same applys..its a question of type there are drivy, and not so much in both breeds.
To that fact just be selective in getting her a dog no matter which breed you choose.they are bulldogs,both,and need an assertive owner not passive.

Boom is looking amazing as usual! Hey quick question because I dont think I have read it anywhere, how tall is he and whats his weight? He looks quite small in his pictures, but I dont think he is as small as I am thinking he is lol but yea, he is a gorgeous dog and looks stunning! Love me some Boom!

I wouldnt say its all how you socialize your dog whether or not its going to be DA. I socialized my mutt with numerous dogs when he was younger, as well as numerous people, and guess what.. at 6-7months old he became very dog selective, and then closer to a year old he was done with other dogs and not cant be around any without wanting to fight them. Sure you can train them to ignore and fly right, but that still doesnt mean if let loose they wont hit another dog. Most people would never guess my mutt is DA by watching me walk him, he ignores all other dogs and can be fairly close to them and not act out, but just recently he was on his 50' long line and some loose dog was probably 20-35ft out from the end of his line, and he hit the end of it so hard he spun around like a top.

Now as for the show dog thing, of course a show bred dog will be less DA (USUALLY) than a working bred bulldog. Mainly because show dogs, depending on the registry, are bred away from acting out and acting on their DA, because its not really needed nor wanted in a show ring and most registries and people competing in them breed for looks and conformation as opposed to the working ability or original purpose of the dog.
Working bred dogs have higher propensity for their natural breed traits because they are still being used to do their job, or not being bred for color/looks or conformation or bred to an old standard to keep the breed as true to form as can be, similar to the ABDA when compared to the UKC/AKC dogs, both are show bred but the ADBA dogs are closer to the actual working bred dogs. Sure the show bred dogs, not bred for the work they were created to do can and usually do show some DA they are USUALLY less DA than the working bred dogs, just like my mutt. He is a blue byb dog and is extremely DA, so its possible for it to always pop up in any bully breed, or pit bull typed dog.

I dont get why a person would get a bully breed (APBT, SBT, AST, BT) and not want it to be DA or try and find someone who breeds dogs away from DA, its part of their breed trait. If you dont want a DA dog, dont get a breed that has a genetic predisposition for DA.

You are right, very true.
I totally agree with your last paragraph, no owner of any of these breeds (SBT, APBT, BULLBREEDS) should want a timid dog, they should show fire in them!

D.dogg, as with other breeds, SBT are individuals. Boom is moderately DA, but highly dog reactive. He doesn't like dogs in his face, in his space, to eye him, posturing up, etc. With tons of training, he has learned to ignore other dogs, and tolerate them around him. But I always try and make sure to keep him out of situations that will cause him to react.

Boom is 14" tall and 25lbs.

Thank you very much for informative posts! I kinda want one of these lil guys myself.

Knowing that a sound mind and body come from working lines, this would be the ideal choice for a long term companion. Working dogs tend to be smarter and more apt to please its owner. Not saying the show variants can't posses this. Its more common in a working line. From my experience with APBT's the working dogs are much deeper in all aspects. Just thought how long its been since I became a bulldog addict. 18/19yrs now.....DANG i am getting some age on me.

Id woulda guessed owning bulldogs you woulda had thicker skin than that! You asked for some info and I gave it, its just mine was short and sweet and POOKIE was nicer and gave a more thorough explanation I wasnt gunna type out becouse my words per minute and a keypad has more to be desired. But looks like it worked out in the end?
