At what age do you put your pups on a chain spot?

I've started them as early as 3 months but never over 5.

Your two responses are the reason I started this thread. I always go by the age of the pup while my buddy won't put one on the chain until 25 pounds!

why weight? is that to give them a chance against loose animals or a vulture can't swoop him/her?

mines 16 lbs and 14 weeks. he's on the chain already. his fecal came back with lung larvae on it. any means of addressing that? doc doesn't know if it came from him or crawled on in his chainspot. i gotta walk him till he drops and then retest i guess. vet is suggesting i start him on revolution as a treatment. any thoughts?

Khanfueshus say many factors involved as to when a pup goes on a chain but main factor is when pup cant play nice with other dogs lol.

4-6 months depending on circumstance. i worry about the immune system outside at a young age. IMO peace of mind is worth an extra month or 2 of the hassle. i like 6 months unless they arent playin nice with their siblings before that

 

the younger the better i would put mine on a chain at 3-4mo when i was out in the yard i just wouldn't leave them on it 24/7 its cold here at night a good share of the time .and as long as they weren't barking and carrying-on i would play with them some and try to make the chain a positive thing for them.i've noticed that the older they are when you chain them out full time the more they don't like it and the more they bark which is annoying and guaranteed to piss your neighbors-off and draw unwanted attention your way

The person who im getting "tutored" from lol does his at about 16 weeks sais thats when they start getting rowdy and not to nice with each other

 

The earlyer you put them on the quicker they will adjust IMO. I have a friend who didnt chain his dog till about 6months and it was just torcher, for the poeople that had to listen to the noisy ****, he didnt have a chain set up he just used one of mine while he there, i swear i was going to kill someone .

What do you do with the dog pre chaining 3-6months?

 

I always do 15-17 weeks depending on the puppy and time of year.
