Myrtle Beach (WBTW) - Horry County Police are looking for the person or people responsible for going into someone's yard and injuring a pit bull last week.

According to an incident report, it happened last Wednesday at a home in the Bridgeport subdivision near the Intracoastal Waterway.

The person who lives in the home told police when she returned home, her dog--left tied up to a leash in the backyard--was in "obvious distress," and his condition didn't improve over several days. Upon further investigation, it was discovered the dog had chemical burns on its back.

Police noted that the backyard where the dog was tied up is fenced on three sides, but open on one side. Because it was tied up to a leash that was attached to a buried stake, police and the dog's owner do not believe it was any harm to anyone who may have approached. Officers also did not find any empty containers or any evidence of any substances that would have been used to burn the dog.

Veterinary bills so far total $300, but officers report more treatment and more expenses could occur, and the dog is recovering at home.
