go to the local butcher and look for the deal. if u buy in bulk its cheaper. look for deals like b grade cornish hens which the only thing wrong with them is like a missing wing or leg etc., miscut chicken breasts, beef, or, lamb scraps. that type of stuff is ur best bet for saving money. eggs, chicken /beef gizards, or livers. DO NOT FEED PORK or cooked bones whatever you do. make sure u use fibers and fresh vegetables as well.

try green beans, stlouis. my dogs LOVE them (just leave out any seasoning & some like 'em warmed up a bit)

I tried different greens and broccoli before and mixed it up good but he still picked out every piece of broccoli and greens that i put in.

I believe most people avoid pork due to the possibility of trichinosis.

I generally give my dog Raw food to eat Except that I prefer Giving him Royal canin. He get Very excited when Sees it and always Starts jumping.

Make sure you feed with a fat source or your dogs will look a kid from Ethiopia. I haven't perfected it yet, but I am using chicken and a variety of sweet potatoes,broccoli, squash,apples, spinach,carrots, and I add a multi-vitamin. I need more fat and am considering bacon. Is that a good choice, if not what do you recommend?

Wat part of the chicken do u feed realjudge??...feed leg quarters has alot of fat on them!!...if that's isn't working just increase in chicken and u should be fine!!..u also can add a little hamburger meat..that should be all the fat u need..I've been feeding raw for a minute now and my hounds look good!!...just increase or decrease to ur likeing..that's the whole trick to it!!...talk about less shit to clean up!!..I love feeding raw!!

crush has it down on raw. i feel im good over here also on the things i do. im going on a little over a year now on feeding raw. if you go completely raw and i would recommend it for reasons like crush said, but if you do go all raw add in beans preferably black beans. i usually make a big batch of dog food that last about 2 months and i store and defrost on a weekly basis. i make sure to put black beans in the pre maid mix i do for iron. it is a good source for the dog, so your not depending on just liver to supplement the dogs iron needs. i dont think it makes them fart, i dont put my face near their ass lol. just make sure its cooked beans and not raw beans lol for obvious reasons.

Chicken backs have a lot of fat on them and are cheap. Bacon has too many nitrates and chemicals, I would not feed bacon at all.

Some folks use lard and give each dog a glob of it with the meats. Butter is also a good source of fat but it's not cheap.

ok thanks for the help. is oatmeal good for carbs? I tried it tonight, I have one that is thin since starting the new diet. I was considering adding wheat bread every day. Tonight I fed a chicken quarter, a cup and a half of spinach, a cup of oatmeal and a slice and a half of wheat bread with a multivitamin and half a red apple. It sounds like a lot of food, but this dog runs all day and is tough to keep weight on especially in the colder months.
