dont have them around other dogs when your not there full stop.these dogs dont really care one way or another if they have a dog friend.there happy just being with people.its thinking that they should be able to play with other dogs that accidents happen in the first place

The Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, in partnership with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has announced a new online course to help law enforcement and animal welfare professionals better detect, investigate, and take action against dog fighting. The course, entitled Combating Dog fighting, was developed by the ASPCA with COPS funding as a two-hour, two-part curriculum.

    I absolutely adore this post.
Wish it went a little more into walking on a leash though. I've had plenty of off leash dogs run up to my leashed girl that will happily wag her tail and grab if they get close enough. Hate to admit I've kicked the occasional small dog but if she got ahold and killed them before I could break her hold I know who would get blamed.

Here is my 2 pennies. I have 20 years experience w/ these dogs. I currently have 2 game bread dogs and used to have a mother/son pair. You can attempt to socialize all you want but someday, probably sooner then you think, the dogs will fight. You can give these dogs a ton of love, but it really does not matter, eventually chances are they will fight. IMO, the more you love these dogs, the better they will fight.

Once the switch is flipped, they are gonna go at it......and you know why? They like it. I am sorry if that is politically Incorrect, but is the truth. My current 2 dogs must be separated at all times. I can be 2 inches away from them, they will still fight.

It is pretty much always my female that starts it. A while back, I built what was, so I thought, a bullet proof pen in my back yard. I could put both out, one in the fortified (I spent $4k to make sure my fences, et al, could not be penetrated. WRONG). My bitch was in the fortified steel pen. We did EVERYTHING to make it bullet proof, but my bitch literally chewwed through all the steel re-inforcements and got into my male. He is much bigger, way more athletic, and bites like an allligator. I was watchin a movie w/ the Home Theater cranked up ( I have this ridiculous system, 9 standing Klipsch reference, 6 18 inch subs, etc and could not hear them.

Long story short, they were going at it for at least an hour. When I came out, she was defending her self from the bottom, and he was starting to basically eat her. I broke it off, and stayed up w/ her all night. I got some fluids into her, and she was able to stand up on her own.

Guess what she did? She went after my male again. I would love to have these 2 in my room w/ me together. I like to pet and cuddle w/ my dogs, but it is impossible. W/ in 2 minutes, it will be ww3. I have both crated (crate and rotate) and if I am letting him out, and he walks by her cage, she will go ballistic.

I don't take my dogs anywhere if their might be other dogs. Your dog can be on leash, and another can come over, but it does not matter. If you have a PB, you will automatically be in trouble.

My advice to you my friend, is to get another breed. You post confirms that you really have no clue about these dogs.

I really expected to find her post say how her dogs 5 years old been going to the dog park everyday of her life and never once got into a fight...Just to prove everyone wrong. Hahaha

Yea man I'd never take my hounds to a DP..... My hounds have all been raised up around each other and they can't even be allowed to get close enough to sniff each other. I've had a few that would be cool with a dog of opposite sex but I've had a lot of males that rather kill a bitch in heat than mount her..... APBTs are not the dog to have if you wanna go to the DP. That's just askin for trouble cuz at some point it'll happen..... As far as walkin on leash..... If you let your mutts run around off leash and they get killed its your own fault, sure they will try to blame you but it wouldn't hold up. Honestly if your dog is leashed and other dog runs up on him...... Lunch time

  16. I do my best with educating people on this... however and sadly, I think a lot of people dismiss my words as hogwash... it's very unfortunate that they are choosing to learn the hard way. It's even sadder that a lot of the so-called "Pit Bull experts" mock me and whatnot...

I have a lot of events with my rescue... I bring my break stick with me to every event, not for my dogs... but I'm a believer in it's better to have one and never need one than to need one and not have one... I don't trust the general public and their handling of their dogs but I also bring the Break Stick to educate people and to even do demos on my dogs to show them the proper way to use one. Some of these "experts" think that I'm adding to the stereotype and not doing anything to better the image... I feel that we are sheltering the general public and everybody else... I believe it's vital to be truthful to the People about the potential and capabilities of these dogs. Some listen, understand, and learn while others dismiss it as hog wash... It's of the utmost importance for people to understand and know the history... it is what has made the dogs of today... like it or not is irrelevant... it demands respect. Knowledge is Power. The vast majority of people have no clue what a break stick is...

I'll continue to educate and to speak the truth...

I learned the hard way with my old Staffy. He was fine with other dogs till about 18 months old. Playful, cute, wouldn't harm a fly.

Then one day another dog went past and he just ran into it. No snarling, no hackles, just ran forward and hit it at full pelt. .. . . I was totally shocked, totally unprepared and it was totally unfair on the other mutt & his owner.

From that day on he'd go for anything that came near him, and I had to keep him on a leash whenever in public.

I wish I knew then what I know now, and I wish I'd read a thread like this before having to learn the hard way
