if a dog took a pretty bad hit in the eye, got swolen shot, draining, and had a golf ball size swelling on the eyelid, aside from cleaning it to keep it from bein glued shut, what could someone do to treat this condition to keep infection from gettin the eye and manage the swelling

If you can...take the dog to the vet and let him handle it professionally!

If not...Treat the eye with antibiotic oitment and oral antibiotics. Keep the would clean and use a hot compress over the wound daily!

antiinflammatory drugs & antibiotics is about the best you can do. a member just made a thread & posted a link where you can get fish antibiotic that's the same as K9 antibiotic. no scrip needed & they had rush shipping available. real cheap from 10-50$ that's less then the vet will charge you.

Just wanted to let y'all know a lil somethin':

If a vet prescribes an antibiotic, you just take that lil ol piece of paper and march your fanny down to Walmart and turn it in to their pharmacy. A half-hour later and you can get yourself a month's supply (usually 30) of such for $3.99 or a 3-month supply for a whopping $10.

In fact, as long as it isn't a canine-specific drug, you can have the script filled at Walmart. ;)

As for eye wounds, I prefer a vet to handle them. Not all eye meds are equal and they aren't "one size fits all".
