Dogs 'saved' from dog fighting operation will likely be destroyed

Approximately two dozen dogs, whose lives were shrouded in pain and violence, will be put to death soon.

According to Wednesday's WAPT News, the 25 pit bulls who were rescued from a dog fighting operation in Utica, Miss., on Tuesday night, will likely be destroyed.

All that stands between life and death for these dogs is a court order which will allow the local Hinds County Sheriff's Office officials to begin the euthanasia process.

The dogs were discovered at the home of Donald Williams, off Old Adams Station Road, in Utica.

Officials who worked to remove the dogs described the conditions at the house and property as "deplorable." The dogs were living on heavy logging chains, attached to car axles.

Also found at the residence were the expected paraphernalia that goes hand in hand with dog fighting operations, including break sticks, antibiotics, syringes, breeding charts and a treadmill.

Also discovered at the home was a cat, said to be used to bait the dogs.

Williams has not yet surrendered to the authorities, but officials are ready to issue an arrest warrant if he does not turn himself in.

When Williams is arrested, he will be facing 26 counts of animal cruelty and one count of dog fighting. If convicted, he could spend up to 30 years in prison.

The dogs removed from the property are described as "very aggressive."
