Dogs confiscated during raid available for adoption

WILKINSBURG, Pa. —Several dogs that were confiscated during a raid at an alleged dogfighting ring last year are being made available for adoption.

Darryl Bryant was found guilty in April on all of the animal cruelty-related charges he was facing, including felony dog fighting.

More than a dozen pit bulls were seized from Bryant’s mother’s property in February 2012.

Police said the officers also found exercise equipment that they believe was used to condition the dogs.

“I can't speak to what these specific dogs have been through. But the world of dogfighting is so violent and the dogs are victims of abuse,” said Daisy Balaweider of the United States Humane Society.

At the time of his arrest, animal welfare officials said Bryant was a renowned breeder with a national reputation.

Since being rescued, the dogs have been evaluated and cared for by the Animal Rescue League of Pittsburgh.

Three of the 14 dogs have been made available for adoption at the Animal Rescue League of Pittsburgh.

“These are dogs that have never been in a house with a TV, so introduction to new and different things like that will take some time with an owner that has some extra patience to do so,” said Dan Rossi of the Animal Rescue League of Pittsburgh.
