i would rather things stay as they are.
although i completely disagree with criminal record checks etc
only punish the guilty, let the government make money off convicts by making them work then if your stupid enough to have an uncontrolled untrained aggressive dog you deserve to be taken out of society when it goes wrong.
    people would learn soon enough.

i think fit and proper person tests should be introduced to own any dog, you get a license then the dog gets microchipped and your details should correspond with those on the dog, police could then do random checks etc and truly tackle the problem of bad owners.

well if you want the government to run every detail of your life thats your choice
i personally want them to keep the fuck out of my business unless absolutely necessary

'that government which is best governs least'

i want idiots to stop giving good dog breeds a bad name, i want idiots to stop having dogs and abusing them so they explode on some poor kid. If i have to put up with a little intrusion then so be it, aha they all ready know everything they need to know about us all, do we not give them information all the time anyway? Think about it your driving license, your passport even your bank account tell the government everything they need to know about you.

at the cost of our freedom?

basically mate the government in this country is too big and interfering as it is,it needs downsizing and to release its strangle hold on our freedom.
its a slippery slope when you start handing over your human rights to the government.

of all the information you put up the government knows this about me:
    my address
    that my license is clean
how much money i have in the bank
where and when i have made withdrawals
what foreign countries ive been to

that i can live with, the government ruling every aspect of my life i cant and wont

i dont think the bill is the answer but how would a dog license be any different then your driving license? it would hold less information and would tackl the problem of bad owners head on not to mention cut the increasing rate of dog theft. Thats the only reasonable suggestion i can come up with that would end BSL and stop wannabes having these dogs, have you a better suggestion that still keeps our so called human rights intact?

that and the police and dog wardens able to give points for silly thing such as not picking up shit..dogs hanging off part tree branchs ect a certain number of points = a fine which can pay for all the dogs in shelters which have been taken off those whove reachd the maximum amount of points? just my thought.

sounds good to me, of course this would be sensible so the government wont do it lol but maybe a petition is in order? any ideas how we could push this?

    blanch Big Dog

how about and bare with me here because this might sound crazy...personal responsibility!

huge fines for fouling footpaths etc and community service or prison for having dangerously out of control dogs whether theyve attacked yet or not.
no more knee-jerk reactions and socialist solutions.

    rikjd Pup

Well they currently have fines for dog fouling and not having your dog under control but how often have you heard of someonre actually getting done for these offences? I think a change has to be made somewhere, as clearly personal responsibilty is failing in too many cases...

  11. blanch

    blanch Big Dog

who's to say any other changes would be enforced?
so you suggest we hand over our freedom because we cant be trusted to be responsible with it?
    thats the way communists think,
you can only be free if the law centres around personal responsibility.
i refuse to pay for another mans crime.

so first im a socialist and now im a communist? how is the idea of dog licensing handing over your freedom exactly? Ye sure the local authorities will know how many dog you have, big deal. Personal responsibility would still be the centre stone of what i am sayin however you would have to prove you are moderately responsible initially which to the great majority of us wouldnt be a problem.

You refuse to pay for another mans crime?? Dont make me laugh what do you think your taxes go to? everytime you buy something in this country you put pennies in the penal system.

  13. blanch

    blanch Big Dog

i'll give you we do pay taxes to the penal system but the government should be making money off cons not spending it on them.

i didnt call you communist you just talk as if you think along the same lines as one,do you not think you'd have inspectors round regularly if you needed a license? telling you what activities you can and cant do with your dog,do you think they'd allow you to have your dog tetherd outside?work it on the flirtpole or springpole? no, they'd keep pushing for more and more restrictive legislation.

if we head in that direction whats next?how about you have to train your dog?sound reasonable?
so if your dog strains on the lead is it trained? in someones eyes, that means it isnt and that dogs gone.as is any dog that is HA,DA,energetic etc etc. no matter how well controlled

dont think the government are that unreasonable?
First case of it's kind: Man told to pay £1,500 after being found guilty of drowning a squirrel | Mail Online

again the socialist philosophy is not the answer, the government doesnt need to step in here unless a crime has or is certainly in their opinion about to be commited.

i hate to point it out but change is very clearly needed the stats are their to prove it, dogs are being used as weapons and in gang culture more then guns at the moment, not to mention the ever rising number of dogs being brought into rescue centres having been abandoned after being used as bait dogs etc. Im not just going off the papers and media as they are their for scaremongering im lookin at cold hard fact. In a perfect world nothing would need to be done but unfortunately the farce that is DDA needs replacing with something more substantial that tackles the true problem of irresponsible owners.

  15. blanch

    blanch Big Dog

what you saw is true about weapon dogs, but why compromise our freedoms?
i think if the government makes more effort to punish (harshly) those who are guilty attitudes will change albeit gradually but knee-jerk reactions and blanket punishments dont work.

  16. rikjd

    rikjd Pup

our freedoms are already compromised, we cant own certain breeds for a start, but the problem with the current law is that of you have a big staff then that can be classed as pitbull type, so even if you are a responsible owner you can be punished which is unfair, yes? So your suggesting keep things as they are and anyone who's dog attacks someone gets hammered by the courts, hmm yes eventually people would take note and it might work out but how long would it take? dog bites have doubled in the last decade, thats a lotta people getting bit!!

Now you dont want to have a license for your dog and prefer heavier punishments and thats how the government have come to this bill... if your dog is aggressive then you get punished because they have to seem to be preventing the incidents in the first place. So to appease the societies need to feel free we lose the freedom to use our dogs in many traditonal work aspects. keeping people happy aint easy is it??

  17. blanch

    blanch Big Dog

this bill was created because some lord was intimidated by a staff barking at him,how long do you think until they add breed bans to it?
it is disgraceful we cant own 'pitbull types' but rather than just add more restrictive legislation, why not change attitudes by increasing punishments etc and then when we're ready do away with bsl as well?

we lose all aspect of working dogs if this bill comes in (with the exception of retreiving dogs),your dog or mine can be re-homed and neutered for intimidating (in a council workers or police officers eyes) any person or animal on private or public property.
so a cat gets into your garden and your dog sees it and starts barking trying to get it,in theory they could then take your dog and if they find a way to prove it they will.

im sure you know what the living slime known as police men and women are like in this country do you not think they'll exploit this law?

i know it will be gradual if we just increase punishments (i think if the punishments are strict and consistant enough it would be faster than you think) and actually try to catch people but knee-jerk reactions and blanket punishments are ineffective and punish and restrict the wrong people, not least because as im sure you know most of the people they're aimed at will not obey them anyway
