    </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
I'm no good until I get hit the first time.
Tony says I'm a slow starter.
But once I get going, nothing can stop me.
    I never quit. Never.
I looked across the ring. I'm fighting a black guy tonight. Bosco, I think his name is.
It doesn't matter what his name is.
This is the first time I saw him. They don't let me face the other guy at the weigh-ins anymore. Sometimes, I go after them right there. I have to save it for the fight.
He's a little bigger than me, but he's still inside the weight limit.
    He's younger than me, too.
But I've been around a lot longer. You can see it on my face. And all over my body. Experience counts for a lot in these fights. You can't tell if a fighter's any good until he gets nailed the first time, that's what Tony says. Then you find out about his heart.
They say it's in my blood, fighting.
But I really only do it for Tony.
    I love him.
He's been with me since I was real little. He gives me everything.
I train the old way. Special food. No sex before a fight.
They say that's why we started fighting. For sex. To have our pick of the bitches.
But I could have sex even if I didn't fight. I fight for Tony.
I work out all the time. Tony even built a special treadmill for me, to build up my endurance.
If you get tired in these fights, you lose.
    I never get tired.
I watched the black guy across from me, waiting for the signal to start. I watched his eyes. He wasn't afraid.
    They never are.
Down here, the purse is nothing . . . all the money comes from betting.
    Tony always bets on me.
    I'd never let him down.
    I'd die first.
I'm not afraid of dying. It's just sleep. And you don't wake up.
I faced the black guy. Tony rubbed the back of my neck, getting it loose.
    The crowd screamed.
We bumped once and the black guy came at me.
He was quicker than me. I took his first shot right in the chest. The fire exploded in me and I tried to tear his head off.
He went down, but he got right back up.
The referee separated us a couple of times when we locked together, but they never stop these fights.
It was a long time before I took him out.
Tony carried me out of the ring.
I couldn't see Tony, my eyes were torn.
The other guy hurt me real deep.
    I was going to sleep.
    I heard Tony crying.
I felt his hand on my head.
Patting my bloody fur for the last time.

? I do not appreciate this this poem at all. The author has nice writing skills but is a greenhorn.

"They say it's in my blood, fighting.
But I really only do it for Tony.
    I love him."

It IS in the blood.... Gameness is in the blood. Game dogs are NOT fighting for its owner(Tony in this instance). Take a gamedog and put it in a complete strangers hands for the match with the owner not present and lets see if it jumps the wall or stands the line.

"But I could have sex even if I didn't fight. I fight for Tony."

This is a bad poem on "dead game"

    common misconception.

lol sure but i still like it man and i believe that an apbt would fight harder and longer if the owner it bonded to was there however this would only b the case if you only had one dog or a few you spent as much time as possible with i wouldn't doubt a game dog would do awsome with a stranger but i think it would do amazing with a person it bonded to in its corner jmho

From the past to the present.
From the young to the old.
Many things were going to unfold.

Dogs will always be willing to give their best.
For the big day of their test.
    Good ones become a champion.
    Great ones become a grand.
And when they retire they become a R.O.M.

    Names that went unmentioned.
    Names that were forgot.
Names like Joe Corvino never received the credit they should have got.

    What happened to the Dogmen?
    That had class and style?
For when we read these books, they leave that chapter out.
Now all we see are guys with California clout!

Most of them have gone away.
Leaving so few of us left.
    What happened to the Dogmen?
For I knew they were the best.

Names like Saddler and Gaboon. Clouse and Komosinski?
Names like Teal and Cotton. Offer and Hernandez.
Names like Tudor and Mayfield, Heinzl and Ferris?
What about the 500 in one's backyard?
My friends, his name was the Great Leo Kinard!

Every direction on the map, all these Dogmen met:
To the WEST in the HEAT.
To the EAST in the RAIN.
To the SOUTH in the SWAMPS.
To the NORTH in the SNOW.
They came from all over just to see their dogs "GO!"

I was there, I seen them all.
I seen Smith's Duggan make the gamest crawl.
I seen Ferris' Apache, Mayfield's Sam and Jessie stop them all.
I seen Strider in Pickens look for a hole in the wall
I seen Ferris' Red Geraldine take the snap out of Carver's fighting machine!

I seen things you don't know.
I seen Hernandez's Nigger make Sir Reivus, Maurice and Leo quiver.
I seen Teal's Tip work the ear and end Scout's career!
I seen Walter cry when Hunt's Pete made Whitey say Good-bye!

I made Playboy, Reno and others cry.
But no big deal, men like Mayfield, Taylor and Fowler made mine die!
So what if it took them half the night.
I took mine there prepared to fight!!

    "Lullabies and Lies"? MAYBE....
    "Legends and Dreams"? COULD BE....
"A part of reality"? SHOULD BE....
But to me just plain ol' HISTORY!!!!

    ~unknown~

I will agree that the dog will probably do a tiny bit better in the hands of its loved owner than some complete stranger. But if the dog is a cur, it is cur. The owner wont make it game because of a "bond. " Its entirely up to the dog if it its a game dog. not the owner. The owner can cheer and cheer for his dog to pass the scratchline and go after its opponent. Even with a great relationship, but if the dog is a cur and had enough. it wont fight. thus, is the reason why i dont like the poem with a so called "dead game" title. and some of the lines in the poem.

I call bullshit... a bulldog is flesh and bone and gameness is not a tangible thing its something a true bulldog proves every time he crosses that line for you!!...and i guarantee you that a bulldog with love in his heart will scratch harder and longer for you than one who has nothing in life and nothing to look froward to when he goes "home"

ima have to agree, there is a paticular man i was reading about that it was said he would literally talk to his dog during a match, theres gotta be some kind of theory behind that!

LMFAOOO. The dog is not crossing the line for you. If that were the case, why arent other breeds who are x4 the size of a bulldog in the box? If they fight for the owner, why arent those dogs fighting? Simple. Those other breed dogs are CURRS. You could have a great bond all you want, but you can't praise them so much to get it to scratch when it no longer wants to.

Match a 120 lb rottweiler against a game tested 45 lb American Pit Bull Terrier. Lets see if the rotty will scratch with broken legs when its beloved owner is in the corner with it. No. It will cur out because it is a cur!

thats what makes this breed what it is. that rottie can give 2 fucks about pleasing you when he gets injured.
a true bulldog will do whatever it can to please its owner even if it means his life! not saying that thats what causes the dog agression. that comes from 100's of years of selected breeding.

i agree also, when you have a bond with your dog more gets done. dogs have brains and emotions also. just like i cant let anyone walk one of my females because the only person she will listen to is me and noone else

A true game dog will not climb/jump the wall OR stand the line to its opponent. NO EXCEPTIONS. Do not give excuses to rank currs/currs.

If you take a real game dog, and allow someone who has never been with the dog to handle him in the pit. Will this real game dog jump the wall or stand the line because its owner is not there? NO It wont. If the dog is game. IT WONT be jumping the wall just because the owner is NOT present.

I will admit, I went a little overboard with the importance of its handler. A dogs real handler and another handler might make a difference between a lost and win. HOWEVER, a different owner handling the dog WILL NOT MAKE THE DOG JUMP THE WALL OR CURR OUT.

The dog does NOT fight to please its owner.

So according to this poem, if you take a real GAME DOG whose owner is "Tony", and you give this GAME DOG to someone else just for the match. The GAME DOG wont fight if its owner is not there? Since this poem clearly states' I really only do it for Tony(its owner)" So if the owner is not there. it wont fight? wrongggggggggggg
