An Effingham county woman is arrested after deputies say they found a dead dog in a cooler and several others in bad condition. They think it may have been part of a dog fighting ring.

It all started just after one Tuesday afternoon when the inmates on work detail found a dead dog in a cooler behind a home in the Standard Lane mobile home park in Springfield. Immediately deputies were called to the home in Springfield. When they got there, they not only found the dead dog but other equipment used to train dogs in dog fighting rings.

A search warrant led them to find a breeding device, loads of Vitamin B syringes and a treadmill to build the dogs' endurance. They also found four other dogs. One was malnourished with injuries consistent with dog fighting. Three of the Pit Bulls were chained up at the back of the house.

"We are hopefully expecting some charges down the road here shortly,” said David Ehsanipoor, Effingham County Sheriff’s Office P.I.O. “You know this maybe something, you know this might lead to something that much bigger. Dog fighting rings are hard to crack. They are hard to find. They are very secretive. They are usually in remote outlying areas. What makes this unique is this was right here in somebody's back yard.”

Additional arrests and charges are expected as this is an ongoing investigation. Simone Lamar is currently being held in the Effingham County Jail.
