LEGISLATIVE ALERT: Jackson County – Potentially Dangerous Breeds

Jackson County NC has drafted an animal control ordinance. A public meeting was held Monday, September 17th for comments.

Draft Ordinance—

SECTION 15. CONTROL OF DANGEROUS DOGS OR POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS DOGS AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS BREEDS

This section is to supplement Article 1A chapter 67 section 4.1-5 of the North Carolina General Statutes.

It shall be unlawful for any person to keep any potentially dangerous dog within the county unless it is confined within a fully enclosed pen (wireless fencing is not considered acceptable for a fully enclosed pen), or is securely under restraint by means of a leash or chain and firmly under control at all times. The premises on which any animal under this section is confine shall be clearly marked with a warning sign. *Dogs of a potentially dangerous breed are dogs which exhibit the behavioral characteristics and/or traits including but not limited to; Rottweilers and Pit Bulls.*
