Wasnt Going Light Barney a blueish dog??

Im sure blues have won before in garbage comp.

    Barney was black brindle.

I used to have a list od winning blues, I have since lost it. :(

The few I can remeber right off the top of my head were Lowcountry's Fancy. There are the Turpin dogs of course. All the early TNT/Turpin dogs went into trash, but the dogs she's had the last few years went into decent comp.

Sadly, most of the gamebred blues are kept as novelties or sold off as pets.

this is a little information that was found on another board

rom Wayne Brown's book The History of the American Pit Bull Terrier:

Quote: Many people claim that the Blue Paul is extinct. He may be extinct in his
pure form, but they were probably crossed with The Pit Bull Terriers in
England and Ireland, and the Pit Bull Terriers were brought to America from
Scotland. In 1857, McCaffrey imported the dog Spring from Glasgow, Scotland
to America. At that time Glasgow was the center of Blue Paul activity, as we
have seen. In 1858, in Rhode Island, Spring won a fight in 1 hour, 35
minutes. In 1859 he won a fight in 2 hours 15 minutes. In 1860, in Boston,
he beat Tom Story's dog in 2 hours 40 minutes. Spring was bred to Maid of
Erin, who was an imported bitch from Dublin Ireland and produced Young
Spring. Young Spring won a fight in 1 hour 15 minutes. In 1862 he beat
Sheffield George's dog in 3 hours 17 minutes, in New York. When Spring was
bred to John Mahon's imported bitch he produced Jeff who won a fight in
Providence, Rhode Island in 1 hour. He later won against miller's dog in 1
hour 10 minutes. In 1864 he won another fight in 1 hour 10 minutes. Dick,
another son of Spring, won a fight against Spring's Hope in 1 hour 17
minutes. Power's Violet was imported to America from Scotland by her
Scottish owner and, on January 10, 1892, beat a dog named Spright in
Massachussets. They fought at Catch weight which usually indicates large
dogs. Her size, plus her name which indicates a dark blue color, leads to
the possibility that she might have been a blue paul.

If the above dogs were Blue Pauls, their bloodline continued in America and
others were probably imported to America, England, and Ireland.

From another part of the book...

Quote: W.C.Roper bred some game dogs from stock
sent to him by Jim Williams and Bob Wallace. Some of Roper's dogs were
silver buckskin in color, such as Silver Jack and Roper's (William's)Silver.
Roper's Silver won 4 fights at 58 pounds.

    And more...

Quote: Tudor's Black Jack (16xW) was, according to Earl Tudor, from a
Delihant's Paddy/Wichita Mike bloodline. His sire was Black Tige who was
sired by Blue Mike. Blue Mike was out of Miss Blue who was sired by Imported
Roger out of Henry's Blue Mary. The sire of Blue Mike was Wichita Mike who
was out of Henry's Blue Madge and sired by Henry's Black Demon.

    A few pages later...

Quote: As we have seen, Tudor's Black Jack was important to
the Tacoma line but he was also important to the Ruffian line of American
Staffordshire Terriers. He was not only important in the development of pit
dogs, including the Dibo line, but he formed the basis for the Ruffian
    line.

FYI, the Ruffian line of AmStafs is where you find the bulk of the blue dogs.

Name one within the past hundred years, and also find some definitive proof besides "They fought at Catch weight which usually indicates large
dogs. Her size, plus her name which indicates a dark blue color, leads to
the possibility that she might have been a blue paul." which can hardly be taken as fact, lol. I know there have been blue winners, but they have been extremely rare, and you wont read about them in any barnes and noble books ;)

P.S. Dont give me the Turpins line of dogs as "proof" either ;)

As far as the Colby deal I recently went through an old dog mans pedigrees from the 80's, his six gen peds went back to Colby and my understanding is most bulldogs trace back to Colby. In fact, around here if you ask most people about their dog's bloodlines they'll say "Colby" which has just become a generic term for pit bull.

As for Barney, the dog men I've spoken to seem to doubt GLB because of lack of having known people that saw him fight. However the same dogman that told me he doubted Barney and Stratton's info on him later told me that he once owned a tightly bred Going Light dog (off Red Penny) that was both well mannered and looked excellent in rolls, so that may have changed his mind.

    14rock GRCH Dog

Once again, Going Light Barney was not a blue dog, so that is a moot point.

Also, as you stated damn near every dog today can be traced back to the Colby family if you go back far enough. Very few modern day dogs are truely "Colby" dogs however.

Well, I have had a blue dog that came from a red female I had that was bred to a black dog, and she was dead game. That female always had some blue's no matter what I bred her with, and she was dead game also, and a very smart one to boot.

The thing is this. I am willing to bet that 99% of the people who bought those blue dogs from me,of which I believe were game(dont know as I did not raise them),ended up breeding them to another blue, selected for color, instead of game. I select breeding for the dog itself, parents and grandparents are nice also, but I am willing to take a chance on a good dog. It seems alot of people now are internet breeders, breeding paper, and not dog selecting.

So, what I am saying is this, that there are game blue dogs, but the majority of people who get their paws on one, down breed the dog to anything with the same color ,the body is even secondary to color for them. That's why most are couch potatoes, with all sorts of problems. Myself, I like all colors of bulldogs, and just cause I have seen worthless brindle, blues, or reds doesnt deter me from trying them out, as I breed the dog. If the dog doesnt work out, I cull. I always want to improve my line.
