$5K reward being offered in death of pit bull in Elkhart

Friday the Humane Society decided to up ‘the ante’ in a horrible animal abuse case.

A week ago, a pitbull puppy was killed when some teens threw a firework at the dog.

Now Indiana's division of the Humane Society of the United States is stepping in and offering a reward that leads to an arrest. A five thousand dollar reward is being offered in conjunction with the Elkhart County Humane Society and Elkhart Police.

It’s unclear about what type of firework it was and where her owner was either when the dog was injured.

She was taken to the shelter and a vet made the decision to euthanize her after severe injuries.

Elkhart County Humane Society says, “I think that's what is so disheartening for the staff here at the Humane Society, to know that young people were playing with firecrackers, unsupervised and basically that's an explosive.”

Elkhart Police have continued to investigate the case but witnesses have been reluctant to make a statement. If you have any information call (574) 295-7070.
