OH: 5 pit bulls taken away from Dayton homeowner

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) –The search for a robbery and burglary suspect ends with five dogs taken away from a Dayton home.

Officers initially responded to the 2400 block of Falmouth Avenue just before 4 p.m. Saturday trying to locate a robbery and burglary suspect.

When police arrived, they spotted a brown pit bull hooked to a metal chain inside a dark garage with no food, heat, or water and laying on a thick blanket of ice. Officers stated the dog tried to charge at them and appeared vicious.

The homeowner let officers inside his house where police found another pit bull hooked to a three-foot chain in one of the rooms. They stated this animal was also unusually aggressive.

Officers found another pit bull in the basement hooked to a chain from the ceiling. They said there were also two baby pit bulls that appeared to be malnourished. Police noted that there was no food or water near the dogs in the basement.

Police questioned the homeowner about the dogs, and the Animal Resource Center was called to the scene. Officials determined the dogs were malnourished and took them away from the home.

No charges have yet been filed. The incident remains under investigation.
