this one confuses me, when a ped is partially empty, is it because someone bought a dog and dont know the history? or they bred to a dog with no history? im just curious as to some of the reasoning behind part empty peds. it is mostly way back in a dogs ped that i notice it, im just wondering if the dogs with only partial peds are still considered pure bred?

  2. i think its casue those dogs arent in the database........

Every pedigree has to begin somewhere. First generation dogs are those of unknown, or at least undocumented breedings.

Well, considering that, in essence, all pedigree records are incomplete... I'm going to say yes, lol. In regards to early-generation dogs though, there is no clear answer to your question. A "purebred" qualification is based on earlier generations of a given breed. Since a "first-generation" dog is without a record of lineage, it is really impossible to tell if such a dog may be considered a purebred or not, being that there is no documented basis for such a qualification. Technically, the dog cannot be considered a purebred with any surety; but just because it is of an undocumented breeding, it doesn't mean that it didn't come from a pure line of its own breed. The dog may, in reality, be a purebred, but without records indicative of such, it cannot be proven.
    Does that make sense?

yes it does.....the reason i asked is because i am having to go back and research the rest of one of my dogs peds. he was bred by my family and the blood they used before they quit was some OFRN, and Florens. i know that Florens blood is very old and non existant now, and my family didnt keep records by dogs name only number so it has been confusing to say the least. i know how he was bred because i know the cousins i got him from when they quit breeding and throughout my life during visits and such i saw all the dogs that led to him. to shorten it, i wonder if since i am founding my own blood (please dont start another arguement with me guys.....;) ) if i can stop researching and use him as a foundation or first blood so to speak or if i should continue trying to fill up the rest of his ped, so far all i have found is the names of his sire and dam and their numbers, and his top side grand sires name and number, for everyone else all i have is numbers and some pics....what a headache :( or if maybe i should just leave the ped for him as it is since for working pups i wont really have what i want until he has built me a few gens anyway? i dunno....

That's your decision to make. I don't know if you are aware of this, but one can actually hire a professional pedigree research specialist - can be very proficient at filling gaps in a ped, although very expensive and can often take many months to really accomplish anything - if anything. May be worth a try for you though.

Ask your family how the dogs are bred they should know without having them registered, online, ect.. They should beable to tell you..

they did tell me, i have his number and pictorial history, i guess i can fill the spaces with the number and pic of the dogs that produced him at least for 3 gens although i have most of his 7 gen ped on file.
