I have had my big blue petbull for 9yrs now. He is a very good natured dog. Big, lazy, you know what I mean.
Well we rescued a pitbull that was 4mths old. His parents bloodline was ALIGATOR or something. From the time we brought him home, the two dogs fell in love with each other. They would sleep on top of each other, play together with no issues. But even when the 4mth old came home he would every once in a while take a look at the older male from across the room and start growling, he would get up and lunge at the older male. just like he wanted to fight, but before he got to him he would roll on his back and curl up yelping, while the older male stood over top growlling. Almost like he was putting the little guy in his place, but never touched each other. Well the little guy is now a year old, and he has always done the lungeing thing, then fall in submission. But today the two of them were standing outside with me in the back yard, and the little guy (which is now 58lbs) just turned and grabbed the older male by the lower front shoulder. he didnt even see it comeing, so now hes into it. bolth dogs are going nuts on each other. my break stick was in the garage, stupidity took over watching your dogs kill themselfs, and I jumped in. through my hands in the little guys mouth and got his mouth spreed apart enough to split them. My older male just walked away when they split, but not the little guy, he was a hand full to say the least. now its been 10hrs and the little guy wants to still kill the bigger male. The older male will only fight in defence, he doesnt really care to continue unless he has to. Do you think I will have to always keep them appart. Right now bolth dog live in house, and I dont want to ever have to deal with a pitbull fight again. Lucky I was home and my wife was not left to deal with that herself. They are apart right now, I have the younger one in a cage (in the house) and the older guy is taking it easy on his couch. Bolth dogs seem alright but my older male took a bad gash to his lower sholder, and it looks like it went almost to the bone, but the cut is only a 1/2 inch long with no blood. For now he cant walk on it but we are useing an all natural antibiotics for any infection, and an all natural pets pain formula. This isnt my first time haveing multiple pits, but it is my first time have two male living together. With the older dog showing dominance why now would the younger pit start fighting, almost like someone flicked a switch today. I have always had well train pits in the past, but this guy is different. I am just not completely confident to have them together, I dont know if I could get them apart if it happend again :(
Giving him away isnt an option, hes part of the family now, I just wish it could be like it used to. Even muzzuled he still wants to fight. I started thinking could he have hit his head today lol. its just weird that there was no sign of this building up.

Never let them have contact ever again and they shouldnt have been living together unsupervised in the first place. Either get Magnum type kennels with tops, chain them out or get rid of one or both of them. Pit Bulls dont need doggie friends. Its a simple solution really.

ya I figured that would be the solution. It just sucks thats all.

After all those years of owning "pitbulls" you finally have on that acts like one.
Its unfortunate, but you wont be able to keep them together again, as the newer one gets mature he will only get worse, you do sound somewhat prepared so just stay that way and get some containment sorted out to seperate them.

    Good luck!

its a simple solution really- crate and rotate is the commonly used term. its alot easier then some folks make it out to be.

Yup. It's no biggie. I have multiple dogs that don't get along. They are rotated using crates, tie ups and kennels. Everyone is happy, healthy and well cared for. Just takes a bit to get a routine down.

Yep, the younger dog knows what time it is now. It is never wise to let 2 same sex dogs cavort and play in my opinion, Yes, I know some folks do it, but I think they are playing with fire.

"its like someone flipped at switch"

Now you know what a real apbt is like.

  10. I ain't buying your pulled a dogs mouth apart with your hands, and are you on crack......no sign of this building up?? WTF do you think you described when you were typing about them growling at each other for the past year?

I'd say good luck in the future, but for some reason I don't see it helping. :( You best take the advice that's been posted.

thanks for all the replies, alot of people are saying that it can be trained out of him. I told them that Im not willing to subject my petbull to that.
I fear that if they get close again the younger dog is going to kill my older male.
If the older dog was alpha, would he ever lose that. Cause for almost a year he was the man, now he wont even look in the direction of the little guy, but the little guy gives him the evil stare now all the time.
I dont think these two dogs will ever be together again:(

you dont think i split them with my hands?
Not trying to seem tough or nothing but when I watch my dogs fighting thats th first thing I thought of. lucky for me I olnly took a bit on the thumb, but yes spreading their jaws was easy. maybe they didnt have long enough to really get a grip.
None the less this will not happen again, they will never be around each other any more. Should I have the little guy in his cage in a different room? or keep him in the living room in his cage. In the living room he can see the older dog isnt caged, is that good or bad?
The little guys life as he knows it has changed, and hes not likeing it. Poor guy has never been caged or muzled, now he has to live in it:(

crate them in seperate rooms, atleast for the here and now. this is the safest plan, and less likely to get them going at it thru the crate

i wasnt gonna say anything but i cant help it. you were talkin so much shit on gamebred dogs and how bad ur big blue mutts are as well as how much experience you have and how we dont know anything. first time you get a dog that shows some fire and you dont know what the fuck to do lmao. You dont need experience, common sense tells you to; separate, crate and rotate. But with all ur experience ur on here asking ppl who know NOTHIN for help on something so obvious??? I do hope that the dogs are ok and that u can sort this issue out however. Good luck

hmmm i wonder why he would growl then roll over on his back? was that him testing the older male yall think to see his reaction? this female pitt growled at my female while on the leash and when mine lunged to attack the darn thing rolled over on its back to be submissive. whats with the showing growling then becoming submissive? but anyway man looks like its gonna be a life of rotating keepiong each dog away. Thats how its gotta be unless you want maybe a dead dog or big vet bill. And to alot of people a fight can be quiet traumaticm so de sure the nieghbors dont cathc it. thinkyou will have dangerous dogs

the shit talkin came from restraining the dogs in their own yard, and my setup worked great, and that i dont need a big chain from making them run away. They are content in their own yard. And everyone knowing nothing, thats BS, everyone has their own personal experiences, and thats what im looking for.
Can a pitbull be rehabilitated at this point, to stop wanting to fight my other dog. I know if you asked casar he would say yes, but seriously, have any one on this form ever had that luxury of getting that type of aggression out of a young male.

this is what i would like to know. for the past year the younger dog would do the lunge and roll thing, what makes them do it i dont know. Thats all i know is that this time he didnt lunge or roll. they where sitting side by side and out of the blue he just turned and bit. totally suckered the older male and went straight for the lower sholder. right now the younger dog looks to be fine, but my big blue cant walk on his front leg now. it sucks but it would have been alot worse if the older dog was able to fight back. thankfully i was less then 5 feet away and was able to break it up before they got a good grip.

dogs are individuals, some can some can't. it can be done but you're gonna have to make it thru a couple of scrapes and be a strong handler to get there. thats why most ppl just suggest crate and rotate. my dogs TOLERATE each other with a few exceptions, and i dont test those exceptions.
