weve got a stafford bitch Beau 3 years old ...she will hunt & chase anything... if its got a pulse she,ll ave it..!! we just got a shock collar about 4 weeks ago .. & she has had quite a few belts from it..! but now she has started to respond to the warning bleep only ...its working well..! i was worried that it would curb her drive , cos we put her into competions .. but its been o.k. ....:)

I have used one before, but for barking on a dog that continued to bark, I mean relentless barking. It worked, the only problem was that it didn't fit correctly because of the two inch wide collar for the chain set-up. It would get moved from his throat to the side of his neck and it won't work there. One bark, a small shock. If he did it again, a stronger one. After about the third or fourth, he would give it a rest for a while.

I like to use the remote collar for barking too, the dog will bark when the clloar goes off tooand then the dog gets it 5 times in a row. I hit the button and give him 5 seconds. Also I will have someone go next to my fence so he barks. I will be standing rt next to him and I jackpot treat...one treat after another and pet him relaxing him while he is eating the treats. This may take the place of a evening feeding lolol. Praise treat 20 times if need be. Something like this will take 15-20 sessions...sounds silly but it works on some. They think if they shut thier yaps they will get praised and a treat.

Temperment test the dawg first. And there is a difference between a shock collar and a remote trainer. I trained my girl with a dogtra. I am pretty sure a collar with .5 mile radius will affect any dog...the question is how????? I was told a remote trainer is most effective on a sharp dog...comes back from a correction very quickly...I would think a game dog would recover from correction quickly. The problem with a game dog IMO is they are such people dogs and juice on that kind of dog could do more damage than good. My staff is a people dog, she is just a bigger b*tch, so it worked well for us. I retired my remote trainer almost 2 years ago...she works very well without it. It was a great training tool for me. I also tested it.................. on my husband.....my mama didn't raise no fool. Bwwaaahahahahahahahaha

yeah I know there is a difference between the to thats why I pointed out I prefer the remote collar over the bark collar.

I have a 2 yapper stoppers and 3 tritronics remote e-collars....I never use the yapper stopper. I have had dogs yawn the wrong way and they get shocked....no good.

My dogtra has been tried and true....I have an older version of this:

1900NCP Field Star
(Low to high power)
The 1900NCP Field Star is our most popular e-collar and is truly the star of our product line.
Designed for pet, K-9, and sport dog training where high output stimulation is required. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
[IMG]1900NCP

MSRP $249.99 [IMG]1902NCP

It works in weather and after submersion as well......

I like tri tronics remote collars better only cause I had a issue with dogrta's CS dept but both brands rock. like the tri tronics one I got cause it is weather proof like the dogtra always reliable and nothing to plug into the collar or the remote for charging soooo nothing for me to break off or loose u know those rubber protective flaps etc. I got a old tri tronics pro 100 it is huge but so reliable and a new one froget the modle ### its is green and a tiny little collar I will find it brb.

I see a lot of guys that use both!!! When I take the dawgs hiking in the mountains I put it on my girl...if she sees a deer she wants to be vapor...and I have to remind her she needs to stay next to her mama!!!!! My male wants to go but he always listens....he is just smarter than her, one or two good corrections and he figures well hell I better stop what ever it is I'm doin to get this crap...her, you gotta be a jack hammer as she ALWAYS tests.....some say it is a female thing, I say it is the difference in their breedeing, he is a game bred APBT and she is a show bred Am Staff.

Could be ..higher prey drive thing. Find what she has a high drive for food toys ectc bring it with you on the hike...bet she will go coo coo for squeek toys. Use it as a distraction give her praise and a treat if she falls for it. Try that 50 times loloolol.

Well you did nail her!!!!! Loves squeakys and tennis balls. But wild animals trump. She is voiced control with other dogs but a deer, rabbit, squirrel.....oh she goes insane! I probably should get into the mountains more to continue distraction training with wild creatures.....I find a "nick" on a setting of 25 does the trick though.

I haven't read the whole thread, so if I say something that was already covered, please overlook it.

I tried a tri-tonics shock collar on my gamebred dogs & it didn't faze them. They'd usually act like nothing happened. If I turned up the juice some would yelp, but they'd keep on doing whatever it was they were doing. I even zapped one gyp so hard she peed on herself, but it didn't stop her from her ruining one of my welded wire kennels.

My opinion? Gamebred APBT + shock collar = waste of time & money.

my dogs r game bred and they work on them...u have to train them with the collar not just hit a bitton and expect them to understad thats like hitting the dog and it not knowing what it should be doing. You have to use it like a chocker. ex Dog is on the couch with the e collar and has a flat collar on with a leash tell it off hit the button on a low setting and gently lead the dog off the couch with the collar if it resists repeat.
