Production of the eli dog

Is it me or has the number of producing eli dogs decreases in the last 20 years? With all the great epic battles that happen I have not heard about to many with a heavy eli hounds at the center stage. Now do not get me wrong I know there are a few out there but are there any line bred eli hounds that are producing like there ancestors? Please stand up eli fans these mayday junkies are really working my nerves

 

They are around. Mayday was a good dog, so when they started selling mayday pups everybody was buying. It's almost like a flavor of the month thing,except with dogs sometimes it's the flavor of a couple years, until a new flavor comes along

Actually there are quit A few with Eli in there blood, but it's way back there! Also Eli was stolen so there is probably more than we know!.

 

Honestly most that were running eli, jumped on the mayday or redboy-jocko/bolio-tombstone bandwagon, for obvious reasons... lol

 

My oldest gyp is at least 50% Eli through Bullyson, Art, Lil Java, With other half brothers and sisters to Dibo! Bolio was A GREAT dog, his littermate sister is in my bloodline I matched into to dogs directly off Bolio, both were picked up under an hour! When you see grandsons and down the line linebread on Bolio they are much better! Of coarse that was just those two!!! The ones I saw directly off him didn't have !/4 the talent he had. But then again it was only A few!! I think Indian Sonny had the best first generation off him!! The dog mill he was at they'd breed him to A cocker spanial if they paid the money!!!

I wouldnt hvae to go far on that eli family trre limb to say pure the family is getting too old not to have added some much need battle catalyst...

The smart ones did it in the fifties and sixties outcrossing the dibo dogs with the black widow and dime blood,,,
the same followed in the seventies and eighties as others that understood the value in that cross and bred thier eli dogs to like klaus zeke and finleys bo...
The problem arose in the next twenty years as it seemed that alot of people seen profit in purity as greats like mr boudreaux led by example and peddlers like pat patrick folloewed,,, both did well but it was long before both lines seemed to loose a bit of value every generation and thats what got us here...

The much needed outcross was overlooked,,, but dogs like mayday came from a four way cross of hybrid vigorness that pure lines lack more and more every generation...

Look at the hardcore four way cross,,, the stone city and other crosses bring alot to the table and I doont know if these crooses are evolving to another level or the others are just getting worse,,, but they are a force to be wreckoned with...

I think if mr boudreaux would have the hindsight to breed to bolio when he had him I am sure everybody would have benifited to this day and whats known as the eli dogs would have had that much needed medicino/black widow cross that ray ramsey valued so much when he gave his two time winner arty to mr boudreaux as he felt his son buford,,, a two time winner and deep game looser was a better dog than his sire...

as mr trotline stated about this cross,,, its been around for years...

When I met Orbie and saw all that blood stacked with Colonel and litter mate gyp of Zeke breed back to Colonel I had to stick my gyp to that! Created A great litter!!! Sonny breed A daughter of Bolio back to him cant think of her name! My next breeding will be to some of that he has won four races by at least five lengths!!

 

^^^^^ I forgot to mention Orbie was tight with Mr. Hienzel and E. Crenshaw!!! Mr. Hienzel sent some of the best breeding stock to his friends!

Smarter men then me, bent on producing great dogs are still making this same cross even today. Check out the Cuervo x Stella cross (id 524755). Take that ped back to the Bullyson x Miss Spike or Mendincino crossed on the Bolio, Daisy, Bull blends.
If that Eli x Zeke cross doesn't click I'll be amazed

 

Can you imagine taking Bolio and breeding him back to Rascal X Blackwidow, type gyp!!!! Look at Bolio's breeding outcross, outcross, outcross!!

 

I agree to some extent but disagree to another about the purity of dogs. Look hard enough & you can still find what you are looking for. Just may not be from some household name.
All families can still work pure. I never knew someone who just bred to have pure but they have actually worked each dog in which the family became one name.

But I love the battle cross dogs also. Especially the line bred battle cross dogs!
Pure means cleaning out the impurities. Breeding victor -victor. But that again is another topic.

I feel a big problem these days is simple but the hard truth.
It's good Eli dogs out there, allot even pure but they may come from no name people, Hobby breeders, some who stay in the shadows, not the house hold names or those who run with groups.
Some may also be heavy Eli but not Eli dogs because someone crossed & line bred them with other dogs.
Ask yourself is it the household name you want or something working with the family you desire?
I'm not one who dwells on what breeders & dog men from the past fed ,bred or done but try to stay in the here & now. I drift more on the what will come not what was done.
I'm old school & like dogs & families that come from the rare & unknown breeders.
I found allot of good dogs & dog men like that over the years more than the household names
There is nothing special about something that everyone has. Nothing. Especially dogs.
But just like some of the statements above I like the crossed versions better. Not just Eli's but most.
No breeding I have done or will ever do is trying to imitate what some one in the past have done.That's more than just a waste of time
I have my own brain & did my own time picking out my own dogs .

Don't worry about how much Eli, but how much of it worked for you.

A whole lot of time & money get wasted try to do some similar breeding as some one else did in the past instead of just focusing do the 2 dogs work & compliment each other.

Once you cross the Eli family or any family for that matter it is not the same family any more but the new breeders dogs. Just a bulldog fact.

In the future I plan on combining a few Eli family strains with the exiting families as just ingredients to the total package . Not to have the purest Eli dogs.

Future breeding with Strains of Eli. Clemmons, Reddicks ,Garcia Bullyson,Cates Nigerino .

I hear you the last thing I want is household names! That means they have been heavily bred, and going in blind who even knows if they are what they say they are! There are some of the baddest dogs that ever shit through A meat asshole out there, but there buried deep. I have been around long enough to know a lot of the great ones come from crossing two or three well bred familys together, then with out tightening up the sorace over A couple generations you have A Staff. But I could be wrong!

I think a line can be ran pure for brood outcross only,,, the tight bred families seem to add to a line but the problem comes when thier genes are so tight they over ride what they are being bred for,,, and even though on paper theres a cross,,, those old inbred lines seem to dominate the genes... If the blood in question was bred for performance and not blood,,, maybe it would be beneficial,,, but if it was old stock of not much ability it will just hurt the line...

Now as far as uniformity,,, the vengeance dogs are unmistakable...
As far as being bred so tight,,, that the blood overrides the others,,, a classic exapmle...
With all that purity talk,,, dont over look the zeke/black widow crosses that go with the arts missy on the eli side...

The only other noteworthy eli line of today would be that of the other coast and the little gator line...
