  1. PITPAL1

    PITPAL1 Big Dog

sure was a beautifully marked dog IMO. I know a good guy who has a dog marked similar and has bred 5 litters with him. Out of all the dogs he’s only produced two with the same markings. I wish I knew more concerning color genetics.

    Anyone care to enlighten me?

I never heard a bad word about cinnamon. Her record was exaggerated as were many of md's dogs but she was supposedly a good one. Bad mother and I think only 2 of her offspring lived

LIL TONEY’S GR CH BLADE ICEWOOD

    FB_IMG_1574555434983.jpg

    FB_IMG_1574555431925.jpg

Lil Toney’s GrandChampion Blade Icewood was bred by Lil Toney from a breeding between Scooter’s two time winner Buc a dog bred down from an old school Eli / GR CH Virgil R.O.M. / GR CH Buck R.O.M. cross
and Lil Toney’s Vana – double bred on West penn Kennels ‘ Razor – a game one time winner that went over two hours for her win . Some of you guys might not know that Blade Icewood won one off the chain in 17 before his career officially started.
    1. was contracted into a dog man that had ties to the infamous Roadblock Kennels (a seasoned vet in the Midwest) and the weight was 37lbs, using a son of Champion Charlie. They figured to have a rough, fastlane hound that would bury himself into his opponent chest. Well that experience and presumption didn’t really go as scripted. They weighed in at 36, and Blade Icewood weighed in at 37, who was clearly bigger and almost towered over him. The Ref said “release” and this contest was really over before it even started. It lasted only 23 minutes, much longer than anyone anticipated. Icewood was proven to be the bigger, rougher hound that pressed him in his chest and rear end.
    2. was into the Midwest finest, City Streets Kennel. It was hosted by True Colors’ very own Tony Rogers, may he Rest In Peace. The weight was agreed at 37 lbs. Icewood’s opponent was Huckleberry, a son of Champion Black Beast. This card also featured True Colors’ Persey, going into Icewood’s litter-mate brother at 41 lbs. Icewood was first on this card and after they weighed and washed it was on. This contest went just like the first one with Icewood being much stronger, smarter and rougher than his opponent. His primary focus was to get to the chest and rear end and he got there at will. This contest was over when City Streets’ dog stood the line at 27 minutes.
    3. was into Jizzle, a son off of Fearnone-Dirty Glove & Game Blood Kennels’ Champion BG, The Baddest 42. Toney presumed that this would be Wood’s most difficult match, because in the previous matches, Wood had a breathing problem and if they would get passed Jizzle, they would consider retiring him. Well, most spectators also figured that this match would be a classic because Champion BG had Jizzle’s sire, go to hell and back to earn his title when he defeated BNK & LOD’s dog in an all out war. Every once in a while, a match would live up to the hype, and this contest proved to be a classic match from the word “release”. Both dogs swapping it out in the rear end. Both dogs displayed mouth, ability and gameness and nobody could figure out who would become victorious. Jizzle really did majority of his damage into Wood’s back-end, even pinning Icewood down, getting into his brisket, working over Jizzle’s face, all while trying to catch his breath. It went back and forth for a while until Blade Icewood switched it and changed the tide when he got deep into Jizzle’s rear and made a vow that he was not coming out. This contest went 1 hour and 40minutes with Icewood finishing Jizzle on the floor in his rear end and earning his Champion title. Before the start of his next contest, Toney decided to address Blade Icewood’s breathing problem and visited the vet. It turned out that Blade had a severe case of heartworms. The vet stated that he would be on heart worm medication for the rest of his life, but it would also help him out with his workouts and resolve this breathing problems. So after a long stint of getting his health in order, Blade got that junkie itch for some action. For his fourth, Blade Icewood was coming off a year and a half layover because of his last contest and his heartworm problem was finally under control. He was looking for a Champion or better and one was located…
    4. was set at 38 lbs in the Carolina’s into Champion Gotti. Champion Gotti had blown right through all three of his opponents and they thought it would be four easy wins. It was stated earlier that most contest don’t really live up to the hype and this one didn’t. This was supposed to be the toughest contest for Blade Icewood and an easy win for Gotti. The only problem was that Blade Icewood’s breathing problem was now under control and from the release it was evident with Wood not wasting anytime and quickly taking care of business. In 30 minutes, Icewood is clearly too far ahead, working his rear-end hold. Icewood didn’t have any intentions of coming out and he didn’t until Champion Gotti was no longer here. Game, set, match! Wood refuses to give him up and finally was parted away from Gotti in an hour and a half. Now before I get to his 5th, I’ll inform you that it was a massive search party for Champions and Grand Champions. Grand Champion Coon was sold to some boys in the south and they were contacted, but didn’t want any part of Blade Icewood. They stated that Coon was retired, but did go on to win another one. Grand Champion Grip’s crew was also contacted, and they stated he was really retired. So we respectfully kept looking. After no takers for a while, it wasn’t until a reputable kennel from Ohio wanted a shot of the Champ.
    5. was into Crybaby, a 1xw and 1xW O.T.C. son off Champion Ali. The weight was set at 38 lbs. and the day before the contest, Blade Icewood got out of his containment and ate himself full of kibble. When they arrived,
terms were discussed and they both decided to get it on. Blade was a pound over his contracted weight with a lot of dog food in his stomach. The Ohio players thought this was a disadvantage for Blade and it turned out to a big mistake! Blade took over from the word “release”, displaying mouth, ability and intelligence! Wood was in no hurry and he outclassed this opponent in every way. This contest went 3 hours and 23 minutes because Blade Icewood would not let go. This contest ended up being called by the Ref because his opponent had expired right there on the floor. This made Blade Icewood an official Grand Champion! Now fresh off his Grand Championship, the hunter soon became the hunted! Reputable kennels started contacting Lil Toney to get a piece of Wood, but one in particular just thought he had Icewood’s number. Dayton Ave Kennels was really high of their Champion Deebo. For their second win, they beat a Champion and for their Championship, they traveled across the states and beat a highly reputable kennel. Dayton Ave Kennels thought they can improve on their merits by beating a Grand Champion that recently went close to 3 ½ hours. The only problem was Deebo’s competition weight was 41 lbs. and Wood was contracted at 38 lbs.
    6. Both camps were dripping with confidence and they both felt as if they couldn’t lose! So both sides decided to go at 40 lbs. Many thought that would work in Deebo’s favor because he was slightly larger, but at the weigh in, both contenders were under 39 lbs. and they were released. Well out the gate Deebo slammed Icewood in the middle of the box and that was literally Deebo’s only highlight! Icewood took over and became
the captain of the ship. He never looked back, working Deebo’s face, front end, and back end, literally breaking him down. Deebo was starting to fade and Dayton Ave asked for a scratch to continue because he was broken up so bad so, one was awarded. Deebo had the will of his pedigree and the heart of a lion, making a running, flipping scratch before the 10 count. The only problem was Wood picked up right where he left off, pouring it on the Champion. Dayton Ave made an incredible handle at 1:40, because Wood usually don’t like to let go. When the Ref said release, Deebo collapsed in the corner and was counted out. Wood made his courtesy scratch and was crowned with his sixth win.
Lil Toney’s Blade Icewood has the ability to outthink his opponents, neutralizing their best weapons and have it work against them. The reason he goes so long is because he has the ability to stay out of trouble, while being extremely patient, and dishing out punishment all at the same time. Icewood also really enjoys his work and hates letting go and that makes him very difficult to handle. He is still on the hunt, coming to a box near you!

    SUNNYBOY’S GR CH TALOUSE
Seadensun was struggling to breed GR CH GRITLER to MOLLY BEE, 1XW, 1XL (GIS), so he asked me to come and help, I arrived and we tried but GRITLER was not interested and MOLLY was nearly over . In my attempts GRITLER nearly took of my face as he got really frustrated and aggressive but we succeeded after all! We were not expecting a big litter for MOLLY was old and we only got one stuck. There were six pups in total. Klein Molly died very young with a full belly of pups by Jasper a son of Lucane that was imported by Brainy Smurf . Then there was Jade – a 1XW, 1XGL – she lost to GR CH Gypsy. She Produced two R.O.M. dogs and two two time winners and still has a big role in producing excellent stock. There was also Pyper, a very big female that Megabite took over and used for breeding. The famous CH Count down a seven time winner that lost one game to CH EX, was also part of the litter. Let’s not forget the dead game two time winner Gator , one of the gamest dogs I’ve ever seen till this day. And last but not least Talouse , the gentle giant. was also part of the litter . Let ‘s not for get the dea d game two -ti me winner Gator , one of the gamest dogs I’ve ever seen till this day. And last but not least Talouse , the gentle giant …
They were born in the very early hours. Talouse was the first born and my pick of the litter. I wanted to crop his ears, Seadensun told me “If you crop his ears you take him, you can’t change your mind”, I said “Sure”, but then the unthinkable happened: the very last pup that came out – later known as
was the one I wanted. I fell in love and begged for him but Seadensun did not budge. Talouse was a very soft nature’d dog, good with other dogs, loved puppies. While he was standing at Savutis they went on a hunting trip and when they came back they’ve found Talouse sitting in front of the back door waiting for them, with 25 pitbulls chained on the yard! He didn’t cared about any of them, clearly showing his intelligence again. At the same time my baby was born and it turned out that Talouse is very good with kids also. I really believe he could have become a double grand champion if given the chance. Talouse was 16 months old when we first tried to roll him against his sire Gritler. Well, he wanted nothing of it! He just screamed and showedno interest. so I left him alone for 3 months and then tried again. He was a complete different dog now!
He showed high ability, great strength and intelligence. A true Yellow dog. For that 3 months we would climb steep cliffs and reach water falls where I’d dive down into the water leaving him high up, acting like I was drowning then he would also jump in to come and save me! I loved my boy. We rolled Talouse one more time and we decided to take him out. A call came from K-Klub who had a one time winner monster at 57.3lbs. He ended his opponents career in a veryshort time. Everybody was running from Dempsey. They asked if we were up for it? We sure did! We agreed and the date was set! On arrival Dempsey saw the pit from the back of the trailer and started shaking the trailer as if they had a mad bull inside. We all stood there still and looked worried.
    Sunnyboy’s TALOUSE K-Club’s DEMPSEY 1XW&1XGL M58.5
The match was agreed between handlers to start at 19:00 but K-Club arrived late and the match only started at 20:00. Dogs were weighed. Talouse coming in at 56.2lbs. and Dempsey at 59.9lbs. Seadensun took the forfei and the match was on. Both dogs started fast with Dempsey driving hard and Talouse on defense. The match stayed the same for the first 20 minutes with Talouse defending and Dempsey dishing out the pressure. 20 minutes into the match a bleeder was hit on Dempsey’s shoulder and the match started to turn in Talouse’s favour. At 26 minutes a turn was called on Dempsey but the referee did not agree. At 30 minutes another turn was called on Dempsey and referee acknowledged. At 35 minutes Dempsey is running very hot and Talouse is dominating and seem to have taken out Dempsey’s left front shoulder. At 40 minutes Talouse is working a down Dempsey very hard and K-Club can see that Dempsey won’t get back into the match. At 43 minutes the ref calls onto K-Club to pick up their dog. K-Club agreed and asked Seadensun for a courtesy scratch which Seadensun agreed to, making Talouse a one time winner in 43 minutes. Dempsey made a stumbling courtesy scratch with great effort while Talouse was screaming from his corner to still get a piece of Dempsey. Talouse went like a bullet on his courtesy scratch. Talouse was conditioned and handled by Seadensun. Dempsey was conditioned and handled by K-KLUB.
Seadensun’s TALOUSE Demon Kennels’ BRUNO MCW

The match was agreed between handlers to start at 20:00 and so it did. Dogs were washed and the ref called for dogs to be released. Dogs met in the middle. 15 minutes into the match turn was called on Bruno who was struggling to breathe. Talouse did not seem to be interested in fighting at all, riding Bruno’s ear, looking for no other means to fight. 20 minutes into the match the first
handle took place. Bruno to scratch and so he did. At 30 minutes into the match, Bruno took control and another handle took place. Seadensun struggled to keep Talouse in his corner. Talouse scratched. At around 40 Bruno got hold of Talouse’s jaw. Talouse still not interested in fighting and starts screaming. Seadensun is a bit concerned. At 45 minutes, another handle took place. Bruno to scratch. When the ref called Bruno to scratch Seadensun released Talouse that came flying out of his corner. Bruno was now totally in control of the match. At 52 Talouse
started licking Bruno, who got hold of Talouse’s penis. Talouse started screaming. This is probably what Talouse needed to take some action. After three more scratches at 1:04 Demon Kennels conceded the match. Sunnyboy and Seadensun were shocked by this! Bruno was doing well at this stage, but his owner probably knew better. Talouse is now a two time winner, conditioned and handled by Seadensun. Bruno was conditioned by Demon Kennels and handled by “Big Man”.
After the news spread about Talouse we struggled to get some action. Nobody wanted to go into Talouse after his 2nd, so we sent him to Megabite. Talouse stayed there with his brother – Countdown – who was already hard at work for his championship match – which was set up shortly after his 2nd. Well, Talouse was not hooked up yet. Three weeks before Countdown’s match, Megabite finally found an opponent for Talouse at …but only to go on the same night as Countdown at 54lbs…3.3lbs under Talouse’s lowest weight. The match was set to go. Before going into details let’s just to have a quick look at what disadvantage Talouse is going in at…
    • He travelled from one county to another (1056 miles)
    • His lowest weight is 56.2lbs and he is going at 54lbs
    now.
    • On match night the competition weighed in at 56.2lbs,
being 2.2lbs over the agreed weight. But, guess what?
    Sunnyboys’s TALOUSE Sandman’s MAX M54
Dog’s were weighed. Max is 2.2Lbs over the weight. Megabite took the forfeit and agreed to go on with the show. The dog’s were washed and taken in their corners. The ref called for handlers to release their dogs. Talouse took control from the word “go”, riding Max’s ear and working the front shoulders. At 34 minutes Max got hold of Talouse’s leg and he started to scream, again just what Talouse needed. Within the next 10 minutes Talouse destroyed his opponent’s front shoulders. Max took too much damage. It cost him his life later on that night. Sandman conceded at 55 minutes. Max did not make a courtesy . Talouse however tested his handlers strenght for he was screaming and fighting to get some more of Max. You would swear he only just started. Sadly – but gladly – Talouse won his championship title in 55 minutes only to lose a very worthy opponent. R.I.P. Max Coundown also became champion a day after! Talouse’s next match was set up the same night, this time against Max’s big brother Deacon.
    Sunnyboy’s CHAMPION TALOUSE Sandman’s DEACON M58.5
Champion Talouse weighed in at 58.5lbs and Deacon at 59.5lbs. Talouse is going uphill again. Megabite took the forfeit…again. Dogs were washed and taken to their corners. Dogs met in middle. When Talouse got handled Megabite struggled to hold him in his corner. He screamed to get more of his opponent. The first handle was at 25 minunes. After three scratches each Deacon stood the line and was counted out at 1:04. It was a relatively long match but a well deserved win. Talouse is now a four time winner. Talouse’s next match was on home ground at 25.5 Kg into Mad Max and his Cocaine dog…
    Sunnyboy’s CH TALOUSE Mad Max’s COCAINE M57.3
Talouse at 56.8lbs and Cocaine at 54lbs. Cocaine was a late replacement for Rascal who died 3 before the show. Mad Max had little time to get to know Cocaine and do some work. Dogs were washed and the ref called handlers to release. Both dogs came out strong. Talouse took hold of Cocaine’s ear. Cocaine broke trough Talouse’s defense and punished his stifle, what more to say but “Déjà vu”! Talouse did it again! Not intrested to fight at all. Only controlling, not fighting. Cocaine on the other hand gave it all, even lost a canine in the process. Great dog, fought game to the end, outclassing all those who went against Talouse, exept Bruno. Cocaine had no conditioning, was rolled four week prior for 1:30 and with a new owner still did better against Talouse than those that were conditiond and over the agreed weight! I must say, “Go Cocain!”, what a great dog. Finally Mad Max decided to pick up Cocaine, who finished off with a game courtesy scratch!
GRAND CHAMPION TALOUSE vs BULLET M57.3
It was soaking wet because of the rain. Bullet took hold of Talouse’s chest and work it hard. Talouse screamed and tried his best to counter the attack, without luck. Bullet took control and stayed in control for the next 30 minutes when a turn was called on Bullet. At the 45 minute mark the first handle took place. The fight went on. After two scratches each, Talouse fetched Bullet in his own corner. At 1:00 Bullet is down and out, Talouse is completely in control, working hard on Bullet’s chest and shoulders for the next 40 minutes. Bullet starts to scream, trying to jump the pit, but Talouse holds on. Bullet to scratch but decides to stay in his corner and look for place to jump the wall. Talouse is a six time winner now 1 hour and 50 minutes! In Talouse’s whole career he was only bitten three times! He was a high ability dog who could outclass any opponent by sitting on the side of the face, just giving enough to frustrate and tire his opponent and as soon as they go down he finches them. Talouse is the product of a long line of great producers and grand champions. His sire is Grand Champion GRITLER R.O.M. and his grand sire is Grand Champion Sir Thomas, a seven time winner who’s grand sire is Grand Champion Yellow R.O.M. Some say Grand Champion Anderson the Spider Silva came
close, but I have never seen something like him! It’s a shame that he died of a bad case of Parvo infection after his last!

    BLANCO’S GR CH ACES JACKIE

    FB_IMG_1574555602628.jpg

    FB_IMG_1574555610636.jpg
Aces Jackie, or Boots as my wife called her, was born up North on the yard of Dawnrest Kennels on August 2nd 1995. Aces Jackie was sired by Rumble, a game and talented stud who is tight Mountain Man’s CH Homer blood, and out of the very rough Pigskin who is tight Cowboy/CH Jeep; both sire and dam have a little GR CH Joey blood for a boost in there. Boots was picked out by Angel Martinez, a friend of mine, who I brought up to Dawnrest because he wanted to buy a pup. Angel raised her until the age of 5 months old when he said he no longer wanted the fiery little bitch that kept shaking his males ball sack. He also didn’t like the way she looked as we both agreed she was the ugliest little bitch around. I paid him four $100.00 payments on her and she was mine. I let her share a kennel with my other 7 month old male and they were fine for a couple of months. Until one day when the wife and I were away at a function and Boots decided that she doesn’t want Damien sharing the kennel anymore and breaks his leg. I got scared since Damien had 20 pounds on her and he tossed her around until she takes his bottom end out. We separated them after about ten or fifteen minutes of what we saw upon our return home and took Damien out. When I let Boots go she rockets into the fence. I tell myself, well if she wants it I’ll give it to her in a few weeks. So that’s what I did. We tried to put a Colby/Bad Billy/Boomerang cross on her but they didn’t go. So one of the guys says his Flo will have that bitch for lunch. Well, they started but Boots picked her teeth with Flo so we put a bigger dog on her after that. That was bump number two and it lasted twenty-seven minutes. I healed her up and a month later we go up North where she came from and give her ten with a Deadwood bitch. She scratched on three and we had to get her other leg stitched back on. Four months later, I gave her fifteen with my rough Bad Billy bitch and they make a nice mess but Boots was giving up 10 pounds and was still coming to the top.
I then bred her to a Deadwood/Art male. After her rolls, bumps and schooling I got a call from Funky Medina, we had known each other for some time. I was green and he had four or five under his belt so he says, “I got a 34 in thirty days.” Well, I said no problem and we agreed on each other’s words, with no forfeits. We get it on with this tight Maloney/Dirty Mary bitch that has been around the block. No handles, no out of holds and his bitch in control for the first 8 minutes. Then Boots hits the armpits, chest and shoulders and his bitch sings and turns. Then Boots breaks the chest and it’s all over. His bitch is playing dead so I scratch to win at :21, his bitch didn’t make it. Well, its time off for a couple of months. I call out Krunch Kennels’ 1X Winner Tilly, we are all set to get it on and they pay the forfeit so I am still looking with three weeks on my dog. Broadway Jack convinced me to go into some high-class stuff in order to get recognition. So I call out Captain America, after he checks me out and checks some weights, we’re on at 36 pounds. He brings some of his double Dead Game Chopper stuff that takes a killing for 1:40, scratches six times, looks dead five times and shits three times but just won’t pack it in until she dies in the corner and collapses. So that’s number two for Boots. She took a bad, heavy chewing so she is on off time for a while. I bred her to CH Asia and didn’t get any pups so no free rides at Blanco’s Kennel. I talked to I.B.M. and asked are we ready? He said hell yeah; I’ll be down to get her tomorrow. He had worked her for number two and she was not running hot or breathing hard at 1:40 and she was strong and pumping, so he was to work her again. Number three is lined up with Krunch & Law-Town because they want another chance. So the money’s up and we are ready when Law-Town wants to forfeit again half way through. Big P Krunch said no way; I’m not looking like an ass that bitch is going. So we get it on and they bring a tight Chinaman bitch that is said to have it all named Lacy. We let them rip and I can see I.B.M. has boots perfect, as usual. Lacy turns after a bit of action, handles are made and she comes across. She is getting outclassed and she starts singing.
Law-Town is making excuses about conditioning and Big P Krunch says its only gone 10 minutes, she is just getting whipped, no excuse needed she didn’t quit yet. She sings along but keeps scratching and we are all confused but they feel she can’t win so they pick up a confused, game bitch and Mass Combine declares Boots as Champion Aces Jackie with win number three in :25. We tried to breed her and while we wait, we get a called out by B-Line. They want traveling weight
and a higher wager, we tell him to hold on because we aren’t sure if she is pregnant or not but if she isn’t we give them our word we will call them. Well she didn’t take so we gave them a call and it’s on in eight weeks with ½ pound for traveling for them. It was to be a four match show until the law pays a visit two hours beforehand, so all others are postponed and we change the spot for ours. With B-Line’s cooperation we travel back South and get it on. Both dogs are on weight and B-Line says they brought this 2X Best In Show Winner Sissy just for Boots. They are confident and start the betting. Sissy is protesting in 6 minutes and scratches twice until at :24 she is a cold noodle and they offer us a scratch to win. We do, and Sissy collapses. I thought she was going to be buried but apparently they saved her after the hour and fourteen minute ride. Poor I.B.M., he worked his ass of for less than a half hour of action. We were advised to try and hook her again right away before the word of a quick kill gets out and then we would never get her hooked. We call out twenty reputable kennels and eight Champions within ½ pound of her weight with no luck until I call Hargroves at War Eagle Kennels. He doesn’t hesitate one minute and it’s on. So I.B.M. is hand walking again now with the help of his stepson Scuff who is racking up a record of his own. The day of our event Hargroves never shows so we get the forfeit after a seven hour ride. We call and try everything to get him to go through with this. So we tell him if he shows at the said time and date and makes weight we will give him back his forfeit. Well he did so; it’s on a full week and a peak later. He brings his 2X Winner Hargroves’ & The Gator Boys’ Simba who is said to be a hardmouthed, rough bitch. She was all that and then some. She was a limb punishing bitch that did to Jackie what she usually does to others. For about 25 minutes Jackie gets busted up, broken front paw, broken stifle and just plain chewed on. When Simba slows down Jackie starts to figure this backend specialist out and she starts doing what she does best, hitting the chest and throat. Simba tired due to lack of air because her throat was choked off and turns at :41. Handles made and she comes like a rocket only to be overpowered by Jackie who was working a down dog until :58 when Hargroves offers a scratch to win. We scratched and now it’s time to help Hargroves save Simba. This is a rough bitch that I would not mind owning myself, I doubt that she would quit. This was definitely Jackie’s toughest match as I wasn’t sure if we were going to win this one. I.B.M. & Scuffs’
conditioning helped to bring her to the top again. She isn’t even 4 years old and made Grand Champion. Not bad for an unrespected $400.00 bitch that nobody liked or wanted. Her next battle is ROM status. Now lets get her bred, hopefully she will pass that style on and can make some more wins because so far our record isn’t where we want it to be.Asthmakid, I.B.M. & Scuff

I saw Airplane at a conformation show. He was one of those dogs your eyes just gravitated to. I am normally not the type to start conversations with total strangers, but I had to ask about this dog. The owner and his wife were some of the nicest people I have met. You could tell the whole time we talked Airplane thought he was on a business trip.

8x Clark’s Utah in 1.15 at 42lbs. It was a blistering hot day in central Oklahoma the second time I saw the little buckskin dog that as fate would have it, was eventually to change my life. We were in the midst of the heat wave of 1980, suffering through over forty straight days of hundred degree plus temperatures, and when I heard the knock at my door, I really didn't feel like answering, not just because of the heat, but due mostly to one of the worst hangovers of my adult life. Fortunately I did answer, only to be confronted by a fellow who looked at least as bad as I felt. I didn't recognize him immediately as we had only met once before and it wasn't until I saw the dog in the back seat of his car that I knew who it was that had summoned me from my nauseous stupor aboard the "porcelain pony" in my bathroom. He probably didn't remember my name either as we had only spoken briefly one day when I had seen him walking the pup and stopped to ask about it. He didn't know how the dog was bred and said only that a friend had given it to him as a young pup the last time he passed through New Mexico, judging from his apparent age, at least six or eight months ago. I thought no more about the man or his pup until that day, several months later, when in the scorching midday sun, he and the dog showed up on my doorstep. He said, "I know you know about these dogs and I was wondering if you would give me thirty -five dollars for him. I have to go away to Macalister (state prison) for a few months and my wife doesn't like the dog. It's okay if you want to fight him or whatever." My first impulse, standing there staring at him, his long sweat-soaked hair clinging to the ashen skin of his face and neck, (and my stomach doing cartwheels across my torso ) was to tell him to "take a hike" so I could rush back to my retreat in the "John". But a little voice in the back of my brain ( the crazy "dog man" voice ) said "Hey Bill, you can't raise a pup to a year old for thirty-five dollars, much less buy one. Maybe you should give it a shot?" I said "Wait here. I'll see if I have the cash." It turned out to be one of the luckiest ( if not the most immediately enjoyable ) decisions I've ever made. I must confess I didn't even feel like walking the yearling pup for almost twenty-four hours. I just put him in a crate downstairs and went back to wishing I were temporarily dead.
I remember marveling at how uncannily silent the dog was, never making a peep the whole time, nor did he soil his crate before I finally got around to taking him out. It was only then that I saw he was absolutely covered with ticks! They were in his ears, between his toes, in his armpits, everywhere! So, after he took a long, long pee and moved his bowels our first mission was to soak him good with a powerful insecticide. I noticed too, on that first walk with him, that he would go in any direction except where you wanted him to go, a trait which would stay with him the rest of his life. And one which isn't too convenient for trying to "empty out" a match dog. I got him "wormed out" as well as taking care of the tick problem and wondered if my money might not have been better spent on feed for the twenty or so dogs I already owned. After all I didn't even know the breeding of the dog and what were the odds of this orphan turning out to be worth keeping? But he was mine now and the money was gone; I might as well keep an open mind about him and see how my investment turned out. I mean, I had some well bred dogs in my yard but nothing that was looking like a world-beater, and who knows, maybe this little buckskin dog would be that "ace" every dog man dreams of.
He was already a year old so it wouldn't take much longer or much feed to find out. And he was a good-looking little dog, nice head, good body structure and big teeth! Five or six weeks later I decided to walk him up to another of my males to see if he might be ready to start. I chose "Cody", a well bred "Hank"/ "Jesse", "Bolio" cross with some "old Wallace" and "Jim Williams" blood mixed in too. He was a few pounds larger and six months older than the buckskin pup, who at that point I don't think I'd even chosen a name for, ( no sense in "wasting" a good name on a dog that would probably "quit" anyway, right? ) But this was just to be a "starter bump" anyway, to see how badly I'd squandered my thirty-five bucks. I wouldn't let "Cody" hurt him, as "Cody" had started and looked promising in rolls and, of course, the pup had no experience at all. I intended to give him the same chance as all my dogs got, to "make the grade", though I vowed he would certainly get "game-tested" a lot harder due to my lack of confidence in his, at least to me, mysterious family tree. I took him off his chain and approached "Cody" cautiously, as I didn't even bother to pick up a breaking stick, so sure was I that probably nothing would happen anyway between the two youngsters. "Cody" stiff-legged it and growled but before either "Cody" or myself could do anything to stop him ( we had different methods in mind, "Cody" and I ) the pup had grabbed "Cody" by the side of the head, flipped him over his shoulder and was vigorously shaking and working his hold! Fortunately I was seasoned enough not to panic but I was so surprised that it took me a few moments to collect myself enough to formulate a plan and get the now angrily combative, young adversaries apart. Later, after putting the soon to be named, buckskin "pup" back on his chain, I had a chance to ponder what had happened. What had happened? "How did that thirteen month old "pup" do that to "Cody", I wondered? Soon enough I would understand that it wasn't a fluke I had just witnessed but the coming of age of the best pit dog I have ever seen. That tick-infested, buckskin "pup" of unknown breeding was soon to become the feared, "35" Dollar Dog, destined to win eight straight contract matches, without a loss, and would eventually become known as the famous...GR. It was a hot day and we started a 10-mile run. To my amazement, Midnight was the only one that stayed right behind the truck the whole way, not allowing any dog to pass him up. If they tried, he would grab them and knock them down then continue to follow the truck. After seeing this beautiful black pup with all that stamina, I tried everything I could to acquire him and, luckily, I succeeded. Raising Midnight was an experience. By the time he was 8 months old, he must have caught and killed a couple of dozen cats, making him very unpopular with my neighbours since I lived in the city. At 8 months old, I rolled him with a 3-time winner I had by the name of Halfdead (Bullet), and he started right up. About a month later, I rolled him with a dog a friend had called Spike who was a very tough dog. For 15, they swapped everything and at the end, Midnight scratched hard. At 9 months, I decided to do Midnight against Pocono’s Bruce. Midnight weighed 39 lbs. and Bruce was 38 lbs. This was a good fight for Midnight as he learned a few things from Bruce. Midnight stopped him at 40. I decided to match him against a dog that Havana Chico and T. Russo owned together by the name of Groucho, who was said to be a game dog. We signed at 38 pounds. This fight started with Groucho fighting the head and Midnight on the chest. Groucho tried but could not hold Midnight out. By 30, Midnight was working on a down dog; with no chance of winning, Chico picked up Groucho and gave a very game scratch, making Midnight the winner in 42. A couple of months later while talking to Indian Sonny and telling him that I doubted the quality of Midnight’s opponents, he told me that he had a littermate brother to Midnight that would bite his head off, meaning to me that he liked him.

I decided to go to California. When we rolled Midnight and Clancy (later known as Abraham’s Headache), Midnight got right into his chest not giving him a chance to do much of anything and in 35 to 40, Clancy gave a very, very game scratch, convincing me of Midnight’s quality. The second match I went into Bob Pitt’s lxw Leroy at 38 lbs. Leroy was a matured dog weighing in at 38 lbs., also defeating a good dog, Ashton’s Icepick, in 1:48. Midnight was a young dog (13 months old) weighing in at 37lbs. This was one of Midnight’s better fights. Both dogs meeting hard in the center of the pit. Midnight would go in Leroy’s chest and drive him across the pit, slamming him against the wall and punishing him hard. But Leroy would just hang in there, nothing really working against Midnight’s style of fighting. At 1:20, Bob finally picked Leroy up, making Midnight the winner.

After this win it was pretty hard finding another 38 lb. dog for Midnight, but while visiting a friend down south, I met a couple of guys from Georgia named Dobbins and Robertson. They had a 38 lb. dog by the name of Panda Bear and we were on in 8 weeks. On fight day, both dogs were on weight and when we released them, they both grabbed chest holds. As Midnight tried to work his hold, Panda shook him out and Midnight lost his hold. Many people there saw this and started betting against Midnight, but it only lasted a few minutes as Midnight got his hold and never looked back, making Dobbins and Robertson pick Panda Bear up in :30, also making a game scratch. While speaking to another good friend of mine, V. Camp, he told me that he had a 39 lb. dog that he would like to try against Midnight.
We set Midnight down against Camp’s Joey Boots. Midnight came out storming and after 20 min, I told Camp if he would like to scratch to continue, which he accepted, and Joey came across with Midnight biting him hard in the center. At this point, Joey was taking a pounding, so Camp picked him up at 29 min. and Joey would not courtesy scratch. Midnight courtesy scratched like always. Bandwagon’s CH Rusty Hooks was sired by Jerry Matlocks CH Truck, a pure Corvino dog. He was whelped by Bandwagon’s Kay. Kay was a Gr. CH. Boomerang bitch. Rusty had defeated the best dogs in the Mid-West. At the time Ch. Midnight had defeated some of the best dogs on the East Coast. Included in these wins were the Havana Boy’s, Bob Pitts and a Vinnie Champion dog. Getting him a GR CH match was almost impossible in the North East. I had heard of Rusty and they had heard of Midnight, and before long I received a call from Bandwagon. Let me say this man and his dogs had some reputation. We agreed to 39lbs and it would be in my part of the country. Now the conditioning begins! I decided on a two week pre-keep. We were going to work hard. My instincts told me I needed it because I chose an eight week keep consisting of spring pole work, swimming, hand walking 15 miles a day and peaking out at two hours on the slat mill. Midnight was a workaholic. I had to be careful and not let him over work himself because he would.
The day of the show I chose Havana Chico as my second, he’s a great dog man and has an exceptional eye.
Most importantly I knew he would be there for me ‘til the end. Everyone with the exception of a few friends was betting on Rusty to win and I covered as many bets as I could. The dogs were released and immediately they swapped shoulder holds. At twenty minutes I called a turn and a handle was made. To my surprise when I got Midnight in my corner I realized he had lost his front end. My corner man gave me the encouragement I needed and then Rusty came hard. We took turns scratching for about an hour. Rusty was destroying my dogs’ front end. He was without a doubt the hardest biting dog I had seen in twenty years. All I could do was stay with Midnight and try to get him from the bottom and to his feet. We were fighting on defence. At the one and a half hour mark Midnight got to his feet and drove Rusty to the pit wall digging in his throat. How we were on offence. It was the first time we saw weakness in our opponent.
Midnight was scratching across the pit at full speed bouncing off his front end. Full blast!! After a few scratches into his chest Rusty finally slowed down. At one hour and fifty minutes Rusty took the count. I asked for a courtesy and Midnight scratched just as hard as his first only bouncing off his chest. These two fine athletes had to meet and only one could be the winner. Thank God it was me. I will always thank Bandwagon for their courtesy, good manners and making a good show! I would like to thank Indian Sonny for allowing me to own a truly great dog.

Nazi BIS is the gamest SOB many Dogman have ever seen, and he can give it back as well to the hogs(rip), dead game still breathing as close as you can get. Went hunting vs a nasty face breaking hog and took it there for over 2 hours, his scratches got harder and harder, more determined when others would have quit, nobody could believe it, 40 year vets included. Much of the credit goes to Joyero as a master conditioner, going from sea level to the show at altitude higher than Denver, this is a huge factor in the left lane.
Even as he is today, he's still the most energetic and willing to work. He earned the right to breed to GRCH Cheyenne, the 14 month prospects are something special, from a cannibalistic litter as pups, to today as gut and genital monster hog catchers a la Cheyenne with Nazi's pep, very bad intentions. We don't care how he's bred, we go with performance and know you can't believe more than half of these animals peds(not saying he isn't bred that way), so for us it starts with him like all the other hounds we have we didn't breed. Well, it's not like Nazi didn't do any damage, the other hog was rip. He was schooled with real destroyers like Chacalito 2xw, CH Cuco and Papirrin, he was smart and could hold his own, good mouth as well. But styles make the hunt.
We took Ch Cinch into the much feared and ducked Johny Cash 2xw, Cinch controlled him and stayed out of trouble for over 2 hours. Cinch could break legs and shoulders like toothpicks but Cash could kill you with one hold. IMO anyone else but Joyero conditions Cinch and he loses, they were both game as hell, too bad they had to meet, but cinch had the style and conditioning for Cash that day. Nazi was in Mexicos best animal hospital for over a month, rejected implants, many surgeries etc. Never got down once, vets never seen anything like it, wanted to put him down from day 1. It cost a lot more than we won in 2 hunts that day, including air fair, hotel and celebration, lol.
ONE EXTREMELY GAME DOG. NAZI WENT OVER TWO HOURS WITHOUT A FACE AND NEVER MADE A BAD SIGN SHOWING THE LEVEL OF GAMENESS FEW DOGS EVER WILL. CONGRATULATIONS TO BLACKROCKS FOR A JOB WELL DONE.
