Did Tudor handle Spike against Mayfield? Student vs teacher?

Don was way underated as a dogman and doesn't get the full credit he deserves. As a complete dogman very few can be compared as a conditioner, handler and breeder. It's a shame that in his later days people just thought he was a burnt out bitter old man with a ton of conspiracy theories. His conditioning and diet were ahead of his time and he was fortunate enough to be in the circle to be in direct contact with dogs that have impacted todays dogs. Don had his faults but his influence and impact should never be overlooked.

I like to talk about dogs I've seen with my own two eyes and this is one of the best dogs I've seen ever.

Bingo was absolutely dynamite! Bingo was a complete dog!

I keep telling people no matter what the family there are pockets that produce performers and producers and it's up to the breeder to figure it out. Unfortunately Don picked an American Bulldog breeder to mentor and leave some of his dogs with instead of an experienced dogman. Don was no dummy and being that he was living on limited funds maybe he needed Rod for the gifts and monetary kickbacks but from keeping the Mayfield family of dogs together wasn't the wisest choice.

All the dogs I posted were that "pocket" of performers and producers that should have been bred around. There was enough diversity in the gene pool but the problem was performance took a backseat to selling dogs. I'm not trying to turn this into a bash Rod post but his priorities weren't that of a real dogman. It's a testament to Don and the Mayfield family that with a closed gene pool, novice dogman and priorities that the family was as strong as it was. I know of alot of familys that have declined alot worse under the supervision of real dogmmen. To Rod's credit his yard set up was by far the best I have ever seen and absolutely spotless when I was on his yard in '07! Rod was gracious enough to offer me a pup free off the cur Myles but I declined because I really wanted Ch Is-Not but Rod let him die after he ate some chicken bones that tore up his intestines, Rod wouldn't take him to the vet and pay for the surgery. My next move was trying to buy to buy Rotten but the owner was a clown, I told him that 5k was way to much and to kiss my whole a$$hole!

You are very correct Don was beyond his time then and with most still now he is farther along then most and he is gone. Now that is sad. Rod had his ups n downs and had his serious times and not so serious times There are dogs down from his blending that continued the families very strong in their own rt as well still as a family Rod taught what Don taught and a few spent time with All those that mattered surrounding the dogs n those who owned en. If only more were like Don yet they rush to produce rather then rush to see what it really is they r chasing to produce. Some say Don was lost lol rambled was crazy I will say He wasn't like the Masses when it came to Dogs n thinking when it came to shaping. I'm thankful for Our time and The dogs and men he pointed me too I only hope We continue as those before Us as we shape the next few generations. An Impact like No other.

Dons best dogs imo was the Fitzwater /Dibo crosses..lots of sucessful dogs and families came down from this cross and its still sucessful today.Cinaman, Pit general , jocko etc.etc.I am not sure why Don got so hung up on Ni- - er although he did produce nice.Seemed like Don became close minded towards the end and selected more on phenotype.

hey bama,,,don was not close minded at all nor did he breed on phenotype bit disrespectful to acuse a master breeder of such things wen you dont even understand his methods ,your right the fitzwater goldie cross was well proven with bolio ,zeke ,miss spike, ch big liz ,ch butcher boy all coming from that cross and old cross called tudor /ligthner,,,,the dog dealers changed names to promote there own product but the most winning dogs in those days were all tudor crosses ,,tudor/colby ,tudor/corvino ,tudor/feely,tudor/henry and in this case tudor /lightner, pit general was the purest of that cross because he was double bred off the purest dog of tudors breeding ,nig ,,,he was a three quarter bred crossdog and double bred nig,,pit general was the best dog anyone had ever seen and some very experianced old dogmen seen him go who had seen dogs like tudors spike hunt ,, research some more an youll understand why don rightly focused on the purest bred dog of tudors family and why his offspring produced a dog like the legendery pit general ,,don took womacks mert to nig for the very first breedng that was done with nig ,, look at pit generals sire pedigree and youll see the lightner blood has been crossed back to tudors blood twice making pit general three quarter tudor one quarter lightner
i dont know were your knowledge comes from but don was breeding matching and winning with those tudor /lighter crosses long before people like pat patrick bought some and started selling to the public or was put in a richard stratton book as a top breeder ,,do your research don was breeding matching winning with aligator nig dogs long before people like gary hammonds got his hands on some and started selling to the public and also put in stratton books as a top breeder but that only for the real breed students not the sleepwalkers , i mean how you think a market was created to sell bolio zeke dogs in the first place ? pats good looks ?,,,it was an old and proven cross that mayfeild and others before him was matching and winning with for years ,,, it was sought after by both dogmen and peddlers alike ,,exact same with alligator blood another old proven cross this time tudor/colby made famous by mayfield at the time then the peddlers move in an profit off the work thru the customer/beginers ignorance,, thats fine, thats life, but it dont change the truth ,,anyway i wont go into a full blown rant i will just ask you this bama when you call legends close minded an phenotype show breeder who are you comparing him to,,yourself maybe??

ps ..if theress anything you dont understand about mayfields breeding methods feel free to pm and ill explain it to you then at least you can form a realistic opinion before throwing out cheap insults on public forums i dont care if you love or hate the man but i do care if you lie about him or insult him this is a public gamedog forum an your talking about a real legend not you an your buddy up the road, have some respect

Researching a good amount on what type of Dogs Don used both in n out of the box Id gotta say Rebeard You know your Info.... Very well said ,personally I love Dons use of the nigger dog and seeing what such genes have been produced because of such choice. I'd be hung up on Nigger as well I personally Enjoy the Blend Don helped keep alive with the help of others of course but since we r speaking on Don I will stay focused. Now I knew him but did not know him like many others nor like most online doggers but non the less I knew him and He never came across as one who focused on just this or just that but I could be blind as I myself am one who at times finds himself hung up on well blood we feed lol. Rebeard Great Share .

The % to me is very important although I am no breeder and this aspect of it is rather new. ( I say new,but over 20 years I have bred a few helped others do the same ) as we build using what we have bass on what We consider great members of the family the most important part is the numbers. I heard much about low yields yet as I sat on the yards I saw much more and when dealings with them it helps one gain anew understanding as we r standing there with them in person not via another beings words pics or failures every family has its ups n downs hits bottom n rebounds like a good stock it's gonna get bumpy but is worth the bullshit in the end. I for one Am Thankful Don pointed me to the nigger blood more the Ch. Alligator and family family bred dogs. Before we hungem up we saw a percentage of above 80% but we also were not feeding yards full of 100 plus in each yard at way yea one will get low numbers. Less is Best it helps one with focusing so much more.

I liked Don very well and I am not a hater. But I have heard Don say why he felt a certain indavidual over seas got white dogs from this blood. He said he thought he was pulling more off the Irish genes which he said he was trying to get away from.Don was leaning more towards the English which he felt was all black.
