Great post,,, we long for both this type owner and bulldog as most wouldnt understand how well balanced a good bulldog could be with the right guidance...

interesting, I know of a very good Ch who in her time was a destroyer but her owner had a niece to the gyp who was cold as ice. These dogs would rip and run the house wrestling for hours playing and jumping all over each other. Some of the best wrestling, tug of war and just ability from 2 dogs I ever seen.. 1 Ch and the other cold as ice lol

good read and If you cant relay the bitches name,,, maybe you can share how she was bred and if this passive elder was a common trait in the linage??? Ive heard similar stuff about some other unknown dogs,,, three females and a young male that played like that,,, they all respected to old bitch and never pushed with her and were systematically schooled with great moves,,, the owner stated that was a good way to teach young dogs with out hurting them,,, indian sonny used similar methods with some of his dogs...

another nice addition robertosilva,,, anybody have any idea how the on fire kennels ch buster was bred???

    great thread!!!

I've posted this to another topic also, but here it is again. Golden King's Gr Ch Kid (RIP) was free around the other petdogs of mr.Pera. He has posted pics of him, commenting how well balanced dog Kid was.
My opinion on submissive dog being cur in the box is that these two are totally different things. My dog is submissive to anything, ears in the back, wagging tail, low head and all of that. To the smallest or youngest dogs, even cats! But when he realises that the other male is not into the domination/submissive game but just want to kill him, my boy turns on! No anxiety (no raised roach hair), tail starts wagging high and all that...
The insticts of a pure bred apbt are so strong as to a pointer when goes hunting and knows that is time to work.
But to let two dogs together unsupervised, even if just one of them is apbt, is extremely dangerous. You have to trust your dogs and first of all, know dogs in general.

from what I hear llantas would be fine around pups and females. But bring a male and it was go time.

CH Comino would play with all pups, all females and even tolerate my moms yappy chihuahuas and stray dogs when I would walk him in Mexico. He would not tolerate aggressive males.

GRCH Candy would kill anything on 4 legs including pups if they got loose, no mercy. But she was very tolerant with her own pups until adulthood. Even if they were separated, she would still recognize them and treat them like pups. This pic is with her pup Pupiloko after being seperated for over a year, very maternal , lol.

I'm sure there are plenty of good dogs that'll tolerate dogs outside of the work place. I don't agree they're all smart if they're tolerant. Had a brother of Ch Big Red that was one of the thickest I've seen, he was friendly to all except when it was time.
Ch Tidy was another I see that got along with all other dogs. He wasn't raised around or related to any of the dogs I see him with.

nice read,,, I agree this passive trait dosnt make them all smart as they are all individuals,,,
some are always passive or cold,,,
others are passive cause fighting isnt the first thing that comes to mind,,,
some might be passive cause they dont want anymore than they have had or you give them,,,
others are passive cause age and some cause the other is passive,,,
never the less,,, a passive type champion shows me that hes not a stupid aggressive fight crazy dog and
to me this same type of sense makes them a smarter contender because they actually think about what their doing,,, not to say that non thinking fight crazy machune would tear right through them,,, but hey...

some take passive as a weak trait,,, I dont think they understand that your response time is faster when tour calm
as the master bruce lee lived his life..

not me,,,lol,,, mrhargroves loved a fast paced dog,,, but also told me there is a fine line between them being fast and crazy and fast and efficient,,, the places they hit and their defense are usually a tell tale sign of how much thought they put in it,,, allot of the fight crazier dogs dont have much defense and dont care to find the soft spot as their only objective seems to be to shake shit,,, now a fight crazy dog that also utilizes their brain would probably equivalate to a quick finisher,,, the smartest dogs have the sense of urgency to properly finish when the chance prevails ...

Ive heard the dumbest off fight crazies have been known to come out of hold and go back into themselves,,,lol...

It's one of those dog by dog things. I have seen dogs that would be labeled as fight crazy that are smart and defensive, they just want to fight every dog they see

In the colby book Louis said most of there dogs were like that super calm laid back and social wouldnt bother another dog unless in the box. But once they step over that wall all business a vet knows whats expected of him. alot of oldtimers wouldnt fuck with a barnstormer or so they call them. I myself like a bulldog thats quiet and layed back on the chain, easier on your neighbors.

I am not doubting what you heard, BUT in the video , WHY would Chavez let Llantas hit that plastic in the kennel before letting him play with the pup? Why not just let him play with the pup from the get go? Plus in the vid, Llantas is still more focused on the plastic in the kennel then he is with the pup.

Most dogs that have been on a chain a while have a lot of pent up energy. Where that dog will focus his initial burst of pent up energy remains to be seen until you take him off his chain. My reasoning behind why chavez did what he did in the vid is because even Chavez most likely knows from experience that sometimes that PENT UP BURST OF ENERGY can be directed on things he wouldnt normally direct them at if he did not have the pent up burst of energy to begin with. Now there is no guarantee that he would of directed that burst of pent up energy on the pup BUT experience will tell you its BETTER to be SAFE then SORRY.

Even when breeding dogs together most experienced dogmen know that in certain individual dogs is best to let them burn off some of there excess pent up energy before breeding so that they wont take it out and direct that pent up burst of energy towards each other.

Shouldn't judge a dog on how he acts outside the work place. I've a couple of fight crazy's here that are every bit as intelligent as any dog. When out the sod's will try to lure a dog within range by acting all friendly towards another dog, then they'll try to grab him, if I let them.

Those dogs are a lot more than just a burst , they ll fire up any opportunity given if they have the fire inside ;)
